Tencent C-drama Love’s Ambition with Zhao Lu Si and William Chan Hits 30000 Heat Index in Platform as Buzziest C-drama in a Week of No Competition
The airdrop of Love’s Ambition appears to have come at the best time for Tencent. With no competition with any other C-drama, LA got probably more buzz than it normally would have so it’s premiere was a hit for the Tencent, rising fastest in the platform to set new records in various heat indexes. But the reviews are polarizing, almost diametrically split between 5 stars and 1 stars, making it appear viewers are watching two completely different dramas lol. The praise goes to the antihero leads who are both lying and playing each other and come with a boatload of secrets and trauma, the sleek directing, and Zhao Lu Si’s acting as the complicated and complex Xu Yan. The criticism drops on William Chan for his stiff acting paired with unfortunately playing a manipulative turd with a punchable face and the makjang story that feels contrived and sends very poor messages on social behavior. I just can’t get over William Chan’s hair making him look like a walking Q-tip lol. Anyhoo, so far this drama is doing way better than expected which is great news for Zhao Lu Si, who is indeed hard carrying the show, but alas it has not moved the needle on her contract dispute. Without that resolved, she continues to be unable to get offers for new dramas.
With the kind of plot during its promotion, I already expected some kind of makjang. Its entertaining and love Zhao Lusi’s look and acting here.
So that’s why Tencent decided to airdrop this drama — because it had no competition, since Tencent wasn’t sure if it could withstand competition. No wonder it’s such a hit. Good for ZLS then

I saw some comments on MDL saying this drama dropped at 10am with no notice or promo, and honestly that’s a big win for the production. About the ratings, 5 stars and 1 star, it makes sense since she’s such a big name. Fans will support, haters gonna hate 🤷♀️.
As for me, it’s been a while since I actually enjoyed one of her dramas. Her last 2 were so bad that when I left some criticism on MDL, people thought I was her hater. 😂

It’s actually a very well directed drama with a fast paced storyline and solid acting all around. I think William Chan starts to shine during the divorce arc. His character drops the facade, which actually makes him feel more real in a way. And this is definitely one of Zhao Lusi’s best performances. I’ve always enjoyed her acting, but you can really tell she’s improved and matured for this role. It’s a good drama.
Looks like her contract with her agency will be harder to break…and it will cost her alot more too. This drama have just raised her value as a artiste.

I think so too. How can the agency let go of her now. She just made herself so invaluable. But perhaps because of this, some bigger player would be willing to assume all the fight to obtain her.

Zhao Lusi can’t take on new projects until she settles her issue with her current agency? That could drag on for years. That’s awful. I miss her. I have loved her with Li Hongyi since Love Better Than Immortality. I loved her so much I even started a fanfic on Love Better Than Immortality. Since then, I have always checked out her subsequent works; some I liked, some I didn’t. But I still love her, no matter what. She has always been so cheery, and I hope she continues to be that happy girl, no matter where life takes her.
I love Zhao Lusi. I’m going to wait until more episodes are out but I’m very excited to watch this. I’m so glad it’s doing well.
This drama makes me realize how shallow I can be cause lots of clips have crossed my timeline so I’ve been watching them here and there and I can’t get over how unattractive I find the ML. 😅
Haters gonna say it’s watered down and that there’s no competition but for a drama with no promotion at all and just airdrop 30k heat is admirable. I have Viki here in US which is a bit behind in episodes and I got so hooked on this drama that I also had to download Tencent and subscribe VIP and even express. 😆 I admit I like Lusi but some of her works I did not like, I could not get through The Story of Pearl Girl and dropped it sadly. This new one is one of her best yet.
Beating expectations is often a good thing, so kudos to the drama. They probably saved some money too. Some may say it decided to airdrop it since Tencent noticed there wasn’t any competition at that time, but that could have easily also backfired. Other platforms could have easily done the same thing too.
Also, I like it when we don’t have like 3 anticipated cdramas dropping at the same time, releasing 1-2 episodes daily to the point where you can’t keep up.
its a lot of makjang than I thought it would be BUT Im really liking whole vibe between lead couple scenes! Its hard to come by such chemistry in modern Cdramas these days…
Also I really like some of dresses she wears but still need time to get used to that make up she did for most scenes.
