Wang Xing Yue and Xu Ruo Han Deliver Comedic Sparks in First Trailer for iQiyi Investigation Period C-drama Love in Red Dust
If that troll producer Yu Zheng plays his cards right with his young and talented agency star Wang Xing Yue he could be his retirement lol. I’ve watched Wang Xing Yue in four dramas with four different roles and he portrays each one perfectly and differently, whether whiny antagonist to stoic male support to flashy drama king to resigned detective genius. I will watch this young man read a phone book haha, but I don’t have to as he has a few C-dramas on deck for 2026. One of which is the period comedic investigation drama Love in Red Dust with Xu Ruo Han. I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t this chuckle a minute high energy romp that was in the first preview trailer. He made me look forward to this in spite of my allergy to Xu Ruo Han, plus I realize as long as he delivers his female lead can be mid and it will still be worth the watch.
Preview for Love in Red Dust:

I am excited!! The second male is a good actor.
I couldn’t agree more about Wang Xing Yue!! I have high hopes that he will be the next Tony Leung (i.e., multiple award winning and charming as heck)!
Same. I look at Tony Leung and Hu Ge and think he should definitely be following that career path. I just hope his agency gives him a good balance of projects so he can reach his full potential. Every role doesn’t have to be a lead role. Getting cast in supporting roles in well writen dramas and films getting to work with strong veteran actors and critically acclaimed directors would do wonders for his potential as an actor. He’s 23. It’s the perfect time for him to be juggling these different types of projects on the way to truly cementing his status as a lead actor. This drama looks like it will be fun and I can already see the chemistry between the leads from the trailer. Hopefully this drama gets to be shown on other streaming platforms besides iQIYI.
Can you tell me which four shows are these? And match with the descriptions: whiny antagonist etc. The resigned detective genius is his last one, right?
That’s why I want him for Xie JingXing in Malicious Empress. He has the chops to deliver all the nuances.
I hope this one is male centric. I didn’t see that in all his past dramas as MLs. He was kinda there as a 2nd fiddler to support his leading ladies. I’ve been rooting for him so hard after the Double. Sadly he has got no luck like K actor Lee Do Hyun with excellent project after project. WXY’s projects following the Double are all duds. I wonder if his bad choices of scripts would turn him into just a one-time fluke.
He has got some competition in his gen. For example, Both Li Yunrui and Chen Zheyuan had done recent works to impress me and many others too, I believe. Specifically CZY really surprised me with his acting range and craft to slay totally different roles with ease, e.g., Fated Hearts and The White Olive Tree. Not a fan of CZY yet, but after his breakout popularity thanks to Hidden Love, I was able to finish the aforementioned dramas because of his acting even though the dramas were flawed. All the dramas of WXY babe other than the Double made me doze off big time LOL, however.
This trailer looks like male centric, which is what I hope for. If the script and the directing combined is decent, I can overlook FL’s awkward presence all the time in all her dramas besides her distracting lips. Welp, WXY didn’t change my perception about him until the Double. Perhaps ZRH will be able to cast a similar magic spell on me through this new drama. LOL
It will all depend on Wang Xing Yue’s marketing value. Is he popular enough to bring in products sponsors. I like Wang Xing Yue alot too but his height may be to his disadvantage. Under Yu Zheng, he will be treated well but he is not getting the market interest as Xu Kai did when he first started out.
But time can improve that, Wang Xing Yue may not turn into instant money tree but he can do so steadily with good consistent acting. Yu Zheng will take care of this young actor.
I recently started watching some vertical dramas…just to find out more about them. Lots of awful productions…but due to interest, and huge demand. There have been more and more better production. A few are even not bad for short entertainment.
Product sponsors are investing more into these dramas especially with the more popular pairings or individual artistes. It is a fast and furious industry. I have seem a few impressive actors who can delivery their character and even strong products selling value. No wonder those popular vertical artistes are getter better paid than long drama actors these days.
Still lots of hit and miss, more miss than hits. But I understand why this production style is popular.
Roll Royce is a popular product invested for those popular rich CEOs, Chanel started investing, I think Dior has afew items too. When the premium brands are joining in this game, this vertical world will be a huge piece of pie.
I watched some short dramas to kill time when nothing to watch. Short drama acting is more theatrical, and so are the plots. Some of those actors are actually better than many liuliang who can’t knock any sense into their acting LOL.
I’ve never noticed WXY’s height. I thought he’s tall enough although obviously shorter than Xu Kai whose acting is just like his height, one dimensional. LOL. The Wanted Detective failed me thanks to the miscast FL who was so boring to watch although I did not dislike her in other dramas. It’s a shame for WXY to have little screen time compared with her in the first few eps. I just had no patience to follow that drama after being extremely bored for the first few eps. The script did not help either.
When everything else is subpar, leading actors and their chemistry become the decisive factor for me to follow or drop a drama. The White Olive Tree is one such example. CZY and Liang Jie emoted pretty well with great chemistry. That made me want to watch them till the end even though TWOT’s pace, like in most of the Cdramas, is slower than my toddler’s Thomas choo choo train. LOL
I love them. I have gotten so used to watching them that I don’t really watch. Long format much anymore. I know more about the actors and actresses in them these days. I love these dramas because they’re not blind and controlled like long formats. I even enjoy it when they take scenes from malicious empress and make it part of their stories
What is the issue with Wang Xing Yue height ? Guy is 184 cm. That is not short
CZY is absolutely not 184 cm tall cuz he’s obviously shorter than Xiao Zhan who publicly said he’s 183.6 cm tall. LOL
@Sirey, oops! I meant to say WXY’s height isn’t 184 cm although it’s true CZY isn’t either LOL.
@Sirey, I watch Wang Xing Yue in many variety show…along side with many other idols, he is shorter than them. As for his real height…I dont believe what it is posted online. He might really be 1.84m, then others must be much taller. Seeing is better.
Anyway, I am not fighting with a fan over him as I like him too. We just see different things.
You do know that the two dramas that aired after “The Double” were picked and started being shot before he blew up with “The Double” ?
@Sirey, oh I had no idea about the timeline of WXY’s projects. I don’t care about that. I only critique by result. I’m still rooting for him. Nonetheless, dud is dud. I have to be honest with my review of his recently released dramas.
@somebody I get you but the thing is in China for example the less known you are the less valuable you are for producers and drama makers who will choose to give the better or more appealing projects the actors and actresses with stronger backing or bigger fandom for example. So far he hasn’t shown any terrible/bad acting since he was put on the map with “Scent of time”. On my case I criticize an actor’s or actress’ bad acting especially when said actor or actress is given huge amount of ressources and is supposed to be the top of the top ex : wooden Gong Jun, Yu Shu Xin saccharine overacting in “Lovegame” or “snow into love” or Zhao LuSi’s terrible acting in The last immortal or Love Ambition. That being said I honestly don’t have much hope for that project with Xu Ruo Han. The teasers did nothing for me (I hope I will be proven wrong) But as long as he delivers a good sincere performances with layers and nuances, showing differences from his character in his next drama with Bai Lu (I see some similarities between both characters vibe and energy which can be a trap and people might feel he is getting typecasted Zhu Rui Bin project was a bad move imo) I will feel at ease.
Chen Zhe Yuan this guy annoys me now with his constant billing fighting with female leads and I don’t think he got presence (very replacable idol imo). And by some accounts he is part of those actors that need to be dubbed
CZY face us actually pretty annoying to me, I don’t see the appeal at all. He has this very smug, arrogant look to him, plus the billing fighting makes him very unattractive.
Visuals are subjective. I didn’t find CZY attractive until I found him a versatile actor. For actors, acting still outweighs other factors to find favor in someone like me. Actors off screen are mostly irrelevant to my liking of their dramas.
I may be a loner here speaking favorable of actor CZY cuz his fans most likely avoid coming to a blog that constantly presented him as a billing controversy instead of a gifted actor. His fans also most likely would keep away from Reddit subs where I visited from time to time and there were always nugus such as AwkwardBambooTea et al periodically and desperately publishing long a$$ congressional reports (LOL) to diss him in all fronts, and where antis swarmed in like CCP Culture Revolution red guards to castigate and diss him. (Somehow I’m glad my own fav finally shut them up after Legend of Zanghai cuz they found a new target to prey LOL. That being said, I still decide to voice my honest opinion here cuz Koala respectfully does not moderate (remove) comments different from hers or the majority.
Excuse me! CZY is one of those actors that are excellent in citing lines. He dubbed his own voice in Fated Heart and he did a great job over there. Idk where you got that idea he need to be dubbed. He is no Dylan Wang anyhow. LOL
@Somebody I got that info from reading Chinese comments namely on BiliBili (using google translate to see what they mean). Apparently his voice acting in his drama with Liang Jie was not so good for example. From what I read his lines delivery is nothing to write home about.
@Sirey, CZY did excellent jobs dubbing his own lines in both the White Olive Tree and Fated Heart. As a native Mandarin speaker, I still needed Chinese subtitles to understand some popular actors’ terrible lines very often, e,g, Bai Jingting. But CZY’s dictation is excellent, specifically outstanding in Fated Heart. His own voice dubbing is one of the factors that persuade me to watch his dramas.
CZY, like my fav Xiao Zhan, has a lot of antis in China. These naysayers run 24/7 negative campaigns against them. There’s no way to validate or debunk the gossips. But works speak for actors themselves. It’s very interesting to see how these negative campaigns have impacted targeted celebs’ reputation.
As for the rest of your comment, I don’t disagree though. As much as I think ZLS is talented, I do agree Last Immortal is a terrible drama and Love Ambition is a bit cheesy to my taste. That being said, I think it makes sense for ZLS to be so popular given how charismatic she was in several different hit dramas. Well, you’re good to disagree. That’s just my own opinion.
I hope he can play other roles. Don’t get your hopes up too much for Yuzheng. He’s convinced that actors can only make it in female-centric dramas. He even mentioned that all male-centric dramas this year would fail. Perhaps WXY will have to wait a very long time before having any real control over script choices. His actors has been stuck in this routine for years. In my opinion, Yuzheng is good for actors when they’re starting out, but he’s just a businessman who only thinks about his company’s interests. He certainly won’t put others first.
I kinda can’t disagree with you. It’s interesting that YZ’s actors had hit dramas when they started out but then became repetitively boring afterwards. I hope this would not happen to WXY though since I like him a lot.
That project looks like your typical idol costume drama led with an unappealing (for ne) post-95 starlet. I hope I will be proven wrong but O don’t feel that picking a Zhu Rui Bin’s production was the right move
