First Look at Chen Du Ling and Zhou Yi Ran in Youku Period Revenge and Romance C-drama Chu Qiao
I’ve grown warmer and warmer to C-actress Chen Du Ling since her unexpected and well-deserved hit with The Glory earlier this year. She was already getting female lead roles but that drama moved her up to top billing in female character centric dramas with the right male lead actors cast. After The Glory finished airing she was cast in the Youku period C-drama Chu Qiao (翘楚) which finished filming this past summer. The first teaser still came out recently with her and male lead Zhou Yi Ran in character and I’m liking her warrior girl vibe and his pensive wuxia male lead aura. Visuals alone can’t save a drama but a well matched set of good looking leads never hurts lol.

What’s with the low key shade about a drama, which isn’t even on air yet?
Between the two, I only find Zhou Yi Ran to be an eye candy. Chen Du Ling is on the ordinary side, and she relies heavily on styling (in the dramas I’ve seen her in) to make an impression. Anyways, I like C-dramas with political intrigue. I will add it to my list. I just hope the concept is executed well and isn’t just there to pad out the script or cause misunderstandings between the main characters. LOL.
Oh, I just heard about certain problems. What I wrote above is less relevant than what I think now.
There are folks who don’t understand the dilemma behind “equal billing” in Qiao Chu, it’s not about which of the two has better acting skills or popularity. LOL. As it is a female-centered drama, now that both actors have the “same rank”, there will be alterations to the script to add scenes (or a subplot for the male lead), which is absurd from my point of view considering that only men in the chinese industry in general come up with such demands, instead of accepting the stories as they are. If they can’t stand “being behind”, they should reject the projects. Please enlighten me and mention an actress who has suggested being elevated to top or equal billing when the role she was being offered was going to have less time on screen. LOL. Wang Xing Yue had a breakout role in The Double, even though Wu Jin’s character was the core of the plot. It worked out well for him.
At least Chen Duling and Zhou Yiran suggested to their rabid fans that they put down their cell phones and focus on real life. LOL.
Don’t know the male lead but Chen Duling worries me considering that her characters who are supposed to have been charismatically twisted have not been because her acting has lacked all the charm that is not found just trying.
