Li Hong Yi and Gong Xue Er in Talks for Period Romance C-drama Princess Zhaoyang
I don’t think this is a high profile big budget C-drama by any means but I do think risk to reward opportunity is higher with smaller projects. Li Hong Yi and Gong Xue Er are in talks for an upcoming period romance C-drama titled Princess Zhaoyang, adapted from a novel, and without reading it I can already give the usual synopsis lol. Nothing wrong with mining the same area with different takes and hopefully strong chemistry to hook viewers. Both leads are second tier level but well known enough in name and visuals that I think pairing up in a drama is a smart move for the production hoping to go in with less expectations and therefore surprise with a potential win.

Li Hong Yi second tier? Really?
It is sad to say but since blood of youth who ever manages him has dropped the ball in my opinion. His recent dramas seems low budget or random titles that have not fared well. So yes he is for now second tier when he could have achieved more since then. Who knows why? I keep hoping for the best for him but yah he is rarely seen in the best of roles since and his acting has been hit or miss since. Still hope for the best regardless.
He doesn’t have backup from a big agency or strong backers. He has big issues with his former agency too.
Sad about this too. I’m hoping the second season of Blood of Youth will give him another chance to get better roles. Also sad and seems wrong to put Gong Xue-er in the same tier as him. Unless she blew everyone’s minds in Blood River, I would put her in 3rd tier if I were being generous, though I admit, she looks incredibly beautiful in period costumes.
He unfortunately has been pigeonholed into gloomy, pensive and frowny roles. It’s because his smile apparently ruins his appeal lol. Not sure how true that is, but because he has to maintain his image, it’s hard to find a good role outside the usual archetype and thus, hard to breakthrough.
