Tan Song Yun and Liu Xue Yi Lead Big Cast of Actresses in Family and Political Conflict Period C-drama Against the Current
The Tencent period C-drama Against the Current (兰香如故 Lan Xiang Ru Gu) released the new couple poster above this week to celebrate Valentine’s Day and also remind me that this drama is coming. Starring Tan Song Yun and Liu Xue Yi, the drama follows a fallen noble lady who becomes a servant and must climb the ranks of the internal politics of the family courtyard. Visually the drama reminds me of Tan Song Yun’s The Sword and the Brocade from her hair and outfit while Liu Xue Yi looks comparatively very nondescript for this role and not in a bad way, just less flamboyant than some of his characters in recent dramas. A recent release of character stills is also more entertaining for the fact that it’s just male lead Liu Xue Yi with Tan Song Yun and then like eight other women making it almost like a harem drama lol except his character is styled like the equivalent of a period accountant.
I hope this is a good one for her… she needs a good script.

I hope I like it, since TSY and LXY are some of my fave cdrama actors.
I love Liu Xueyi but he hasn’t had good dramas lately. Hopefully, he makes a comeback. He is such a talent…can sing, plays the piano, and act. He doesn’t get the recognition he should deserve. I like the actress too. I can always get into her dramas. I have seen a bit of the trailer. There seems to be chemistry between them. Hopefully, the story is good too. Can’t wait for this drama to come out.
Aren’t C fans tired of harem politics? Apparently nope since the popular novel Dream of the Red Chamber got promoted decades ago! lol. Not for me though. This genre is one of the least likable genres of my own preference, abundant snoozefest on trivia to get me doze off quickly. lol.
