Wang Chu Ran and Li Hong Yi’s Period C-drama Hidden Shadow Rumored to Drop End of the Month March 2026 — 10 Comments

  1. Haha, very funny! I believe it after I’ve watched the 1st episode 😂
This drama has had more rumoured airing dates than a starlet has shoes in her closet. There is practically a new date (usually for the end of the next month) coming out every month.
Clearly this one has been buried somewhere in Youku’s archive.

    • Buried? Nah.🤣🤣🤣

Youku keeps moving the release dates so their productions don’t clash with other, more anticipated premieres. It’s become a habit and they’ve been doing it this way with certain titles for a while now. Let’s bet.😂

  2. I’ve never been able to finish projects under Guo Jing Ming’s direction I usually just like the aesthetics but not the way the plot is developed

    • Neither do I, and in his work as a screenwriter I have the impression that he groups a lot of elements and then doesn’t know what use to give them (even adapting his own series of books Ice Fantasy lol). His version of Painted Skin failed mainly because he did not feature a talent like Zhou Xun in the 2008 film.

  3. Here is a short and sweet version for your posting:

Just caught up with Pursuit of Jade and it’s refreshingly close to the novel! Tian Xi Wei is perfectly cast—gutsy, pretty, and petite—while Zhang Ling He nails that quiet, conflicted male lead persona.

As for Hidden Shadow the casting feels a bit off compared to the book. Wang Chu Ran is stunning but leans more glamorous than the petite and frail character. And while Li Hong Yi serviceable, I think He Yu or other newer actors might suit the male lead better, in terms of looks and vibe.

    • Veering slightly off-topic, but re:your comment that Pursuit of Jade is sticking close to the novel–I’ve seen tumblr peeps complaining that the ML isn’t as unhinged as in the novel? Lol. Personally, I thought there were a few instances in the drama where he let the madness within peep through his cool facade quite impressively, but maybe I’m just settling for less because I haven’t read the novel?

      • No character in chinese adaptations will be the same unhinged as in the original source. As long as certain limiting politics in entertainment are present, there will be alterations to adapt the characters to be redeemable or misunderstood. Personally, I am not bothered by changes if they are conducted logically and serve to show a new perspective.

  4. The controversy surrounding Xiao Shuai and Xiao mei popularity falsification has left entertainment industry in reflection state. Cnetz is so funny. Good for them finally getting an sucess in a first bills. I plan to check out when it’s finished. They have attractive visuals, but honestly these two aren’t enough reason to make keen to watch.

  5. I dropped How Dare You!? I felt that there was no intention in the pace at which the plot was being approached. And since it is not a hilarious comedy, the attention in the narration is still important.
