Covering K-dramas and some K-entertainment news leaves me at times feeling the negative outweighs the positive. Preventable accidents always leave me depressed at the unfairness of life and the unpredictability of things being fine one moment and then shockingly tragic the next. Earlier in the Summer A-list actress Gong Hyo Jin was involving in a serious car accident en route to her drama filming of It’s Okay, It’s Love, an accident that totaled the van she was in and left her with extensive bruises and and a broken arm. It was yet another reminder that the hectic work conditions in K-ent often contribute to or increase the likelihood of accidents when people drive tired or late at night.
Hours earlier K-ent was shocked to wake up to news that girl group Ladies Code was involved in a tragic and serious late night rainy conditions car accident that unfortunately took the life of 22 year old member EunB (above) at the scene and leaving two of her group mates RiSe and Sojung in critical condition undergoing surgery. In the van were all five members including the aforementioned three plus Ashley and Zuny along with two of their stylists. The driver of the van also sadly passed away at the scene. I don’t know this group at all, a relatively new addition to the K-pop scene having only debuted in 2013, but for those who are fans this must be terribly sad and shocking to behold. My condolences to EunB and the driver’s family and friends, prayers that Sojung and RiSe pull through, and wishing a speedy recovery health and mind to the rest of the members and their staff for this shocking and senseless accident.
EunB and Ashley on a Radio Show:
Crazy couple of months for K-dramaland. This, plus Kim Hyun Joong, and now the arrest warrant for the chick that played Kim Nana in Monstar because she tried to blackmail Lee Byung Hun.
22 years old?!!! What a tragedy. Wow, my heart goes out to her family and friends and also to those of the driver hurt. My family alslo lost someone suddenly this past weekend and it’s been such a blow. It’s can be even more painful when the person is still so young. A parent should not bury a child, it’s the worst thing to witness. So sad…
also praying that the injured members will pull through.
It’s just terribly sad
This is so sad! R.I.P. EunB and the driver. I pray that the injured will recover quickly and that God comforts the members and families left behind
Poor babies. I pray they will not lose hope in all the unfairness of it.
God bless them.
I don’t know this group but it’s just so sad when people die so young, so much potential. Life is so precarious.
RIP to EunB and the driver. May the injured recover speedily and the loved ones and family be strong and find comfort in face of this tragic accident.
RIP to the two whose lives were taken away so suddenly and too early. Prayers go out to those in critical condition and the other members and family and friends.
RIP both the victims. I hope the others will recover well. Such a tough industry for them. What a sad news to wake up to.
It’s so sad. Rip EunB. I hope Sojung and Risae recover soon.
Gah it’s so sad to think that they don’t know their friend passed away and it’s on Sojung’s birthday too :/

This also takes me back to the terrifying and serious accident that happened to Suju in 2007 in which Kyuhyun came very close to meeting the same fate. With fractured ribs, doctors weren’t sure he was going to make it either. He was really lucky.
These accidents are a serious issue that seems to be happening more frequently as of late. I had hoped the issue would be addressed before something like this happened. And even if the accident happened due to rain, to be involved in schedules until 1:20 in the morning is ludicrous. I really wish K-Ent would have a greater concern for their entertainers.
My condolences to the family and friends of all victims. Such a tragic event. My only hope is that this is taken as a learning experience so that more deaths such as this can be prevented in the future.
Such sad news. I can’t help but wonder whether she used the seat belt or not. Because every time I see some filming of someone in his van during driving they didn’t buckle up (e.g. So Ji Sub and, the worst case, during Return of Superman Yakkung, I think, was just sitting in his child’s seat and I couldn’t spot a belt at all).
apparently it’s confirmed that EunBi wasn’t wearing her seatbelt (it’s not compulsory for backseat passengers in Korea, apparently)
What a tragedy, poor girl was so young 🙁
So sad.
Not using the seat belts in backseats is one of the reasons the fatality rate is so high is South Korea.
30 fatalities per 100 000 motor vehicles (it’s 4 in Norway, 8 in France, 13 in the US)
Many Koreans are totally unaware of the effect of deceleration. One mum believed her seat would stop her child’s body. She really thought it was if her child did not use belt. But she was kind of right, since it’s difficult (and expensive) to find child seats in Korea.
it was safer*
Don’t know the group, but very sad. RIP EunB and driver, and speedy recovery to all.
I will include everyone in my prayers today. I appreciate the effort K-entertainers and other entertainers out in to providing dramas, music and other types of entertainment for us. Will there be an investigation? I wonder if the passengers were wearing seatbelts. In k-dramas they seldom do when they are in a van. I also wonder when the Korean auto indutsry is going to provide the Korean public the same safety features required in American cars such as airbags. Everytime a charecter gets into a collision in a drama, I wait for the airbag to deploy, but given the size of most Korean women, they may suffer more injuries due to frontseat airbag deployment than from the accident itself. I apologize for wandering away from the tradgedy, but I’ve been thinking about this for a while and it just seemed to be a good time to write it.
What is going on is still a shock to many. People need to be more careful on the roads of Korea not just for idols. I hope you can read my post further on this issue with car accidents in Korea amd ladies code EunB and comment with your opinion!
