I might have to rescind my vow to take a break from SETTV, I might be able to stay away from the next Sunday night idol drama but the upcoming Thursday night offering looks way too cute for me to miss. Tentatively titled Just Want to Make You Love Me, the workplace rom-com starring Aaron Yan and Puff Guo is … Continue reading →
The allure of the new high school music K-drama Monstar is strong indeed. If I started watching when just one episode aired I would be as hooked as I am right now having watched the first three episodes. This is a drama that has its bearings and knows how to package the product nicely. There is the music theme woven … Continue reading →
Potential drama crack addiction alert! I’m still loving every minute of tvN’s Cyrano Dating Agency but I actually enjoy just watching it without the desire to recap it. The couple of the week stories are disposable narrative fun but nothing to write about, while the main cast is doing a fantastic job but their stories don’t yet have any meat … Continue reading →
Either Han Ji Hye has a taken man radar, or her married status leads to her co-starring with guys who are either married or about to tie the knot. Perhaps it’s a weekend drama thing, once an actor or actress lands in steady weekend drama work, they are usually in their thirties and thus statistically more likely to be married … Continue reading →
My Mon-Tues are rather quiet now that I’ve dropped Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love. Forget life being too short for bad dramas, life’s too precious to watch something so utterly aggravating it might cause me to have a brain aneurysm. Gu Family Book isn’t much better but at least its stayed consistent with its shortcomings. It’s also ramped up … Continue reading →
There are lots of folks curious about this high-profile celebrity couple and quite a few not expecting it to last. Taiwan actor Mark Chao, who broke out with TW-drama Black & White (and shockingly won the Golden Bell Best Actor Award in his first acting foray) and then hit the big leagues with TW-movie Monga, is dating his former movie co-star and … Continue reading →
I’m slowly unwinding from riding the King Flower train and this one needs a gradual debarkation process like any other drama that gets me all worked up. MC40, who plays harmless cheery Da Li, posted the picture above last night on the Da Mouth FB page and I thought it so cute and wonderful I had to share. James Wen … Continue reading →
I am totally wiped out from the marathon day of watching the final episode of a long-running drama and pounding out both a baby recap and a hella exhaustive recap proper. As I was getting ready to call it a day with anything drama related, suddenly my Lee Seung Gi radar pinged and wouldn’t you know it my baby boy … Continue reading →
Verdict – I love this drama, but holy god is it a hot mess. I am a relentless critic when I watch dramas, because otherwise why write about it? I’m pretty certain that I’ve made so many drama friends and foes here at the Playground because I speak my mind, whether its to call a spade a spade (i.e. this … Continue reading →
The endurance, success, and growth of S.H.E. as the top girl group in Taiwan has been nothing short of an industry setting example for all future hoobaes to follow. The girls released their new album late last year and this year marks the 12th anniversary of their debut. S.H.E. consists of Selina Jen, Hebe Tian, and Ella Chen, and individually … Continue reading →
King Flower ended today and I feel a sense of relief and nostalgia already. I really do need a crazy crack drama at least once a year or it’s like a itch I can’t scratch. KF has fit that bill completely, making me crazy addicted and totally at its mercy. Episode 21 pissed me off to no end when I … Continue reading →
While I was watching CP3 (Chinese Paladin 3), my shipping wires were all crossed because I didn’t feel anything for the OTP played by Hu Ge and Yang Mi, and was instead very inappropriately shipping him with Liu Shi Shi. Folks who watched it will understand why I say inappropriate. I also wasn’t particularly enamored of the secondary OTP played … Continue reading →
After watching the just released 10-minute official trailer, there are so many expletive-laden things I want to say about Bu Bu Jing Qing, the upcoming modern day sequel to the time-traveling Qing dynasty period drama Bu Bu Bing Xin, but I’ll hold it all in for now. The 10-minute trailer destroys even the last shred of hope I had that … Continue reading →
