What the hell is this? I made a decision long ago to avoid Jang Geun Seok’s singing career, or rapping career, or clubbing career, or whatever the heck career he wants in entertainment aside from acting. But this new atrocity dropped on my lap and I couldn’t swerve fast enough to avoid it. With him choosing the somnambulant Love Rain as his last drama in two years, his acting isn’t getting a work out either. I can pinpoint Jang Geun Seok’s increasingly eccentricity (which is really much closer to his real life personality than the kid actor that grew up before our eyes) to when he left his agency and formed his own management company Tree J. That is always a hit or miss proposition, it can either be super successful and lucrative, roping in other tops celebs (like Keyeast founded by Bae Yong Joon), or it can be a launching pad for an actor to self-manage a career without any guidance or filter. If Jang Geun Seok wanted a career being a kooky singer-entertainer, he’s probably headed in the right direction. Last year he released Lounge H (The First Impressions) with his club hit collaborator DJ Big Brother and it was apparently quite the pan-Asia hit racking up high sales in many Asian countries.
If he wanted to build upon his acting resume from the days when he did Hwang Jin Yi, Itaewon Murder Case, and Beethoven Virus, then he’s really headed in the wrong direction. I suppose my ire comes from just how talented he is as an actor, because if he was a middling actor I wouldn’t like him so much and would be perfectly fine with him toddling off to release terrible music and ape a music career that only makes me cringe when I see it. Or he can actually make good music, such as Lee Jun Ki who has a thriving Hallyu singing career on top of his impressive acting resume. Last night I watched the first teaser MV for Team H’s upcoming new album and the first single “I Just Wanna Have Fun”. Forget Jang Geun Seok’s eye-popping new hair style in this teaser – I am baffled that he has a successful singing career releasing sheer crap music such as this. This passes for club hits these days? Gosh, what has the standards for youth music fallen to? He can be as weird as he wants if his music is good, but listening to this only made me cringe and laugh and then sigh for what he’s giving up in terms of building his acting resume so he can produce stuff like this. Watch and you’ll see what I mean.

I honestly have never liked club music MVs. I’ve never understood it. Club music is just something people dance to, it doesn’t a story or deeper meaning that would shape a MV, so why make one? It’s just repetitive beats you can dance to.
The only exception I make for this rule is Daft Punk and that’s cuz they create whole worlds to accompany their music that is fascinating. It doesn’t hurt that their music is really good.
But even worse than making a club music MV, this is BAD club music that has a MV. Whyyyyyyy?!

I love trashy dance/pop music, but oof, that is… pretty ludicrously awful, isn’t it? If he weren’t such a good actor, I might be entertained by the slide into bizarro-land, but I agree with you, Koala: knowing what he’s capable of and seeing him do this stuff instead just makes me some combination of disappointed and annoyed.

For such a talented and gifted person, just imagining what he could have been at this particular stage ……is saddening for me who has really enjoyed seeing him in YB and Beethoven virus. What and why it happened to a basically intelligent and good person is mind boggling……..worst part being there are no signs of us again seeing it changing for the better.
This particular teaser seem to express the philosophy by which he is living at the moment….outpouring of his inner self ……I want to have fun, I want to……seems to be what he wants or what he perceives the people wanting. Just myself trying to understand him…..a young self made person I still admire for his many achievements.
I am all for being creative, being bold enough to believe in oneself and going for it. But this is not the way. I still believe that he is just doing what he said in one of his interviews that this is the age to try out things and getting away with it. He has spent enough time on this particular path. Here is wishing the comeback of a good actor that he can be.

Honestly whenever I see JGS crazy fashion or attempt to “make” music, I got the impression that he just channeling G-Dragon. I mean the crazy fashion is somewhat similar to G-Dragon but the music left much to be desired.

I don’t think music has fallen this low to consider this listenable. This is crappy even for crappy club music. I like dance/pop or whatever mindless music, but this is pretty terrible. I don’t care what he does in his career and how eccentric he is, but he should at least do something decent sounding.

Had to watch it after reading the comments because I don’t follow his career since MSOAN and I wasn’t freaked out. Living in Seattle and I see crazier stuff than this that the youth, Asians included, wear and do. Still I think he is trying to get noticed globally.
Honestly, watching his lunacy in the music field just makes me that much more in awe of his acting talent. He plays characters who are not nearly as wack-a-doodle as he himself appears to be.
I have his Japanese mini-album, I actually enjoy that one for the most part. Its your standard cheesetastic pop, nothing too outstanding one way or another, just something fun to listen to while at the gym.

I have an unconditional love for Jang Geun Seok. I say let him do anything he loves to do, but…I just don’t get it. He always says that he loves acting and he wants to act until the last day of his life, but what he is doing right now is the opposite. I was really excited when he released his “Let Me Cry” album but now I think he’s becoming over the top and it’s tiresome. I hope he will realize that soon and come back to his acting career, because I think he is one of the best young actors in Korea.

I have been wondering for a while why Jang Geun Seuk has been so quiet lately. He is one Korean actor/singer who has that “it” factor. He has a very nice speaking and singing voice and a very good actor. I watched and liked most of the dramas/movies he has made.
Everyone knows that it is a good story, a good script, a good director, more than enough budget, very good crew, etc that make a good film that would either make or break an actor/actress and so with music. I think that in releasing this type of music video, JGS aims to catch the eye of the world market (if it is in English entirely or majority of its lyrics is in English). Looking at the very short peek-a-boo trailer, it seems to have some promise to it creative-wise. I don’t believe that JGS would make and release something that is crap considering that he has been in the business since he was a kid and majority of his films, works, songs, performances are very good. I don’t find anything wrong with it as I have seen worse music videos in my lifetime that really had no music/melody in it (no creative value whatsoever)and there are really crazy music videos. His music video at least seems to have some promise in it. And doing this type of music does not necessarily mean that he will be doing that for the rest of his life. I think he is doing different genres. It is not bad to experiment with a different a type of music for as long as the creativity and the music is there. For as long as he does not become like those singers who releases those so-called ‘music’ wherein it sounds like the instruments are banging together and the singer not singing but shouting you’d think that the tonsils will fly out or suddenly croak due to so much stress on the throat. JGS, when are you going to have a new drama? a drama that is light-hearted, serious and refreshing will be most welcome with Moon Geun Young, perhaps?

I don´t get the outrage over his looks. I can´t say that I like his style but he very obviously does! I feel like he is one of the few actors who is free to express himself and I really cannot hate him for that.

Getting a bad script does not mean he is not a good actor or is not serious about acting. Actors cannot predict which drama will be a hit based on summary and a few episodes script. He acted one drama every year, 2012 Love Rain, 2011, You’re my Pet and 4 eps of Love Rain. Most actors only act one drama in a year. I don’t see people scolding some actors who act probably 1 drama in 2 years. He is just using his spare time to do something he likes. This song is not the best, but the other songs in the album are quite good.
Even if he is not good at it, can’t he do something that he likes? He has always love doing DJing since his University days and has spent his university days doing music with his friend because it is something that he loves. During his university days, he spent a lot of money trying to create a fun environment in his school all out of his own pocket because it is something that he loves. Other actors might be taking a break and resting, but he is trying to live life to the fullest. He said that he is willing to accept failures and think that it is good to dream big. Even if he fails, he will be happy because he knows that he tried and has worked hard. When your child grows up, are you going to deny them to chance to venture into something new just because he is not excellent at it? I admit he is not a good singer but i can see his improvement. Team H may not produce the best music, but don’t judge them by just listening to 1-2 songs.
Drama fans will not be able to accept him because most of you do not follow his official site news or just see as a weirdo who always select lousy work. He shared a lot of his thoughts on acting and why he has not selected a drama with his fans. He always pride himself to be an actor first.
I was cruisin’ through PSY and YSY videos on youtube (FBND withdrawal syndrome), and this particular MV caught my attention. Lo and behold, JGS has officially gone bonkers. Yep, Folks! there he goes, knocked right off the bat and straight to ‘La Loona’.haha!jk. Well, first I didn’t really know what to make of it. I wasn’t sure if it was a spoof or if he’s just trolling–so I googled, “What the hell is happening to Jang Geun Seok?” and your site is first in line to answer. I haven’t been updated about him since his stint on “You’re my Pet” and I’ll probably stay that way until he comes back to earth (half-kidding). Kudos for making us laugh and cringe at the same time. At least he seems to be enjoying himself doing things he really love, right?

In my opinion, Well.. I heard Team H’s song and it’s not that bad. I like “What is your name?”. What I see from JKS right now he is trying different direction. Somehow, Team H reminds me of Safri Duo, but Team H with DJ and upbeat music. JKS is indeed talented and creative, and I will support him no matter what even though I don’t like the way he dress-up and putting excessive make-up. Recently,I went back from New York City and saw theatrical performance. Then, I realized maybe JKS also put his new-outlook as his performance as in theatrically odd. But,his massive success in Japan and China proves that Team H is marketable. And yes,I agree with all of you. I love the simplicity of JKS (with short hair, no make-up and manly look). I could watch Beethoven Virus, Doremifasolatido, also Baby and Me over and over again. Hey JKS, we love you just the way you are;))!!
i completely agree…..i think the critics is good enough to make him understand the direction he needs to move in….although i liked most of his singles which were mostly OST’s…i have to agree that doing music like JUST CRAZY is a complete no no for him……..
