Jang Geun Seok’s First Single “Let Me Cry” Drops in Japan

Jang Geun Seok is working hard for the money, and definitely giving fans what they want. After playing musicians in project after project, Jang Geun Seok has officially and finally become one in real life. His first single “Let Me Cry” dropped yesterday on the radio waves in Japan, and I must say that it’s a hit. It’s a rock ballad that has pop influences, but is not overly produced or synthed to an inch of its life. Have a listen below and tell me what you think?

Let Me Cry:

I personally prefer his introspective and quiet songs more, because his distinctive voice gets showcased more in those types of melodies. However, “Let Me Cry” is a great first single, and solid enough I’m rest assured that the rest of the songs on that album should be equally as easy on the ears.

  • I agree with your comments. I do like the song (I'd like it better in Korean, so I hope someday the Korean version will drop), but I have to say I prefer songs like I Will Promise You and My Precious because they exploit the breathy, sexy quality of his crooning. ^_~

    • I agree with u estel, I much prefer hearing him sing in Korean...I am not fluent in both languages but I just like the way the Korean language sounds much better than the Japanese language...idk maybe I'm biased due to all the Kdramas I watch =)

    • same w/you, my fav. JGS songs so fa are My Precious and I Will Promise You...but LET ME CRY also prove this guy have SO MANY talent, even in Japan Rock song-style he gave the best he had.. is there any he can't do ?????

  • i listened a shorter and noisy version last night, and the first thing i though about when i woke up this morning was like: let me cry let me cry....
i just can't get it out of my head!!! i love him singing ballads but this style (like take care my bus is so adictive!!!!)
i hope it will be a hit not only in japan... so excited, can't wait to buy the cd (the 2 edition just to help his sales!!!!)
thanks for the complete version!!!! :D

  • With the title, "Let me Cry" I was totally expecting a ballad. Not that the song isn't good...I actually like the beat and the electric guitar/rockish vibe to it. And of course I love my beloved Keunsuk's voice...very sexy and soulfoul in every pitch and note. But I'm still looking forward to hearing a ballad...and soon please! His voice is showcased sooo much better in ballads!

  • Happy Friday Captain ockoala! :)

Thank you for this news. ^_^ I too prefer JGS singing ballad songs. The first song I heard him sing and admired was "Can you hear me?" from BV. But this first single ain't bad. It effectively showcases the "rocker" in him, which obviously would draw the younger demographic . Perhaps rock music is JGS' preferred music. ;-)
Well, Good Luck to JGS! May he have many HIT singles and albums!

P.S. Thanks much for the banner today. Love it! ^_^

  • It may be because I've been in a bit of a melancholy funk lately, but I'm not really feeling this. I'll give it a listen again in a while and see if it grows on me, though I really want something slow and heartfelt and ballad-y. I think finals are getting to me if I've got Fiona Apple on a loop.

In the meantime, though, I think I'll listen to Kanye's tweets set to classical music--that will forever make me laugh.

    • is the video have been removed already? because i can't view it..it says 'this video is no longer available due to copyright'..is there any other link for me to listen to this song..love jgs so damn much (T.T)

  • I think you're right that his voice isn't nearly as showcased as it could be. At points he's even kind of buried behind the instruments, which is really a pity. He's got an incredible voice, richly warm with a nice range. I mean, I can pick out the english refrain, but the rest of the time I can't even make out which language he's singing. (I had expected Korean, but someone else's comment makes me wonder if it's Japanese?)

Do you know if he's also the songwriter? I've not seen anything that indicates whether he also has composer or lyrical skills.

    • I agree with you. His voice is drowned out except for Let me cry and I can barely make out some Japanese sounding words. I am a fan of Gackt and other Japanese rockers but the guitar doesn't usually drown them. This one song is a disservice to his vocal talent. I hope the other ones are better. I Will Promise You was his best as far as I am concerned. It still makes me cry.

Note: That picture of him in white. OMG HE IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • i couldn't tell if he was singing in japanese or koren (think it's the audio in this clip- but i like pop rock.) but sounds good.. JGS music idol rocking his black eyeliner from his YAB days. Haha
