Roy Qiu Back in the Spotlight Promoting Upcoming TW-drama Marry Me, or Not
It’s so good to see Roy Qiu back in the entertainment spotlight, though he didn’t actually take a hiatus for the last two years but it certainly felt like it based on how low key he was. It’s a rather odd and ultimately inconsequential reason for his staying out of the limelight even as he’s filmed movies and dramas this whole time. After the very public breakup with former costar turned girlfriend Tang Yan, the netizen blowback was so one-sided against Roy that it turned what was a private issue into a referendum of him as an actor, which I totally don’t subscribe to in this case.
Stars behaving badly certainly does affect audience opinion, but there are degrees to such private life scrutiny and being a shitty boyfriend or girlfriend is low on my radar for not watching an actor or actress I think perform the craft beautifully onscreen. He’s been taking front and center this month with costar Alice Ke to promote their upcoming drama Marry Me, or Not, which actually looks fantastic with plenty of adult romance sizzle, not to mention now 34 year old Roy remains still so easy on my eyes as seen in these recent pictorials.
I don’t think badmouthing his girlfriend after a break up is a really nice thing to do. Imo he’s kind of a douchebag, but I’ve never liked him anyway.
Oh, I only knew about the cheating. So then not only did he cheat, he also blamed the gf, or what?
I don’t usually pay attention to celebrity relationships, but this was something big on Chinese entertainment news a few days ago. (At a movie press conference, he answered the media’s questions about him and Tang Yan, rather than avoiding them. He said that he’s been single since their breakup, and when asked about them getting back together, he answered, “It’s up to fate.”)
It’s reported that he not only cheated with a couple other actresses, but he was also very possessive of her and acted bipolar with her. Because of all of the rumors surrounding them, Tang Yan asked him if they could officially confirm their relationship to the public, but he refused. He wanted to be the male lead in the drama “Agent X” (the first drama produced by Tang Yan’s studio), but the role of the male lead was given to Luo Jin, and he and Tang Yan got into a huge argument about it. He later acted really cold to her, and he broke up with her.
After the breakup, Tang Yan lost a lot of weight, and she looked very tired and weary at public events. It’s even rumored that she self-harmed because of it. Since then, Roy Qiu has been labeled as a 渣男 (basically a lying, cheating, two-faced guy) by Chinese netizens. And after answering the media’s questions at that movie press conference, Chinese netizens are saying that he’s only answering those questions now because he wants to get his way into the Chinese entertainment spotlight again.
The deal with him being a boyfriend did make a little impact on me, as in I don’t really care much about him and I’m not labeled as a fan. But not to the point where I’d be against watching him. Especially since this is with Alice Ke, I’m definitely on board. He’s still eye candy and I can’t deny that.
Based on the rep he has already, I’d say tang tang should to get out of that one. She deserves better and I hope she finds someone who will treat her right. Roy’s personal life hasn’t affect my watching him since I also don’t consider myself a fan and watch whatever I want. As long as the acting is good and he doesn’t commit a crime. Otherwise I would’ve stopped watching long ago…. He’s had a bad bf rep for a long long time.
I am currently watching all three Sunday tw dramas and liking them to various degrees… It’s been a long time since that’s happened… Years… Maybe close to a decade. So I am looking forward to this one. Hope it’s entertaining… I am honestly not expecting much but I do want to be entertained.
