Everyone’s talking about the Netflix produced K-dramas of the last two years which really has been an incredible success for the streaming platform, but it also has shelled out generously for the streaming rights to K-dramas that aired on television whether cable or prime time. For the period of 2020-2021 the viewership numbers are in and Vincenzo is the most watched K-drama that also aired simultaneously on television. After that it’s It’s Okay to Not be Okay in second spot, followed by The King: Eternal Monarch in third. It should make fans of that drama happy to know their claims for how widely watched on Netflix it was, very impressive for sure even if not the most watched. Then in 4th we have Nevertheless, so for sure younger viewers were probably streaming it rather than watching on the network. Hospital Playlist 2 came in 5th followed by Sisyphus: The Myth, which hopefully goes to the Netflix grave of crappy dramas that people watching hoping it would eventually make sense (it didn’t). And super impressive is Hometown Cha Cha Cha in 7th, it’s only 2/3 way through airing and I can see it going up a few more notches by the end. On a side note, Crash Landing on You is NOT considered in this time period, it’s considered a 2019 drama since it started airing in 2019 and finished in early 2020, plus Flixpatrol did not collect data during the entire period of CLOY’s airing. If it did and the period was expanded to 2019, I think it would be either CLOY or Vincenzo in number 1.
Pingback: Vincenzo and It’s Okay to Not be Okay are the Most Watched on Netflix Television Simulcast K-dramas of the 2020-2021 Period - Kpopnchill - All About K-pop News
This are not official while Netflix have released year end officials had TKEM as most watched where as Vincenzo is 2021 show.
But not surprised to see Nevertheless do so well in this one. The year end will come out again in decemeber
Where’s Itaewon Class?
Maybe Itaewon Class didn’t make the list because it aired first quarter of 2020?
Squid game?
It’s a Netflix original exclusive, not a simulcast.
The gap between #1 and #2, and #2 and the rest is huge.
@peanut gallery – lol ikr?! I’m a huge fan of Vincenzo but even I was surprised to see how popular it was with international viewers, usually kdrama ifans go for romcoms/romance dramas, not crime dramas even if they star Song Joong Ki.
I wonder if Vincenzo picked up a bunch of international fans who aren’t kdrama regulars, the same way that Squid Game did. I saw some folks raving about it that I would not take to be a regular kdrama watcher, like Simon Pegg (of all people, lol).
IDK it was a crime drama with rom-com elements. I can see how it would appeal to a larger audience.
@Mimi – considering it didn’t even become clear they were actually going to have a romance element at all till halfway through the drama (writer left it out of his previous two dramas) and it was understated even after they kissed, that description isn’t exactly accurate.
Crime kdramas don’t have a history of being popular on Netflix but maybe it’s a sign of audience tastes shifting too.
@peanut gallery – I do think its being simulcast on Netflix gave it high visibility to international fans throughout its run and being in the top 10 in many countries did help push it to viewers who weren’t kdrama fans before (and who maybe weren’t the type to be into your typical kdrama romcoms) ….and lol Simon Pegg. Though it makes sense he would like Vincenzo, the humour+dark tone is a but like Hot Fuzz.
YES! Vincenzo No.1
I am sorry but in my case vincenzo its sucks
Sorry for the hate
