The promos are really heating up for upcoming SBS Fri-Sat drama Today’s Webtoon, adapted from the manga Juhan Shuttai which was adapted already into the J-dorama Sleepeeer Hit! in 2016. I hear webtoons are SO POPULAR in South Korea as it’s daily or multiple times a week updates and easy to read on cell phones while commuting on trains so going behind the scenes of a diverse group of folks in a webtoon production company editorial department will be interesting to see. Kim Se Jung may have another hit on her hands after A Business Proposal and The Uncanny Counter, and if so this girl has the midas touch.
Today’s Webtoon:
Its going on a fri/sat time slot which is not really ideal for office dramas. They usually fare better on mon/tues slots due to the need to destress during the work week. Thats why most channels slate their thrillers and high budget fantasy productions for the weekend. Plus Jdrama remakes never quite make it, odds against this drama is piling up. That said its nice SBS has recently adopted Kim Se Jung as their new muse and is confident enough in her popularity to let her anchor the coveted slot against KBS long form dramas and cable productions big spends. Though not optimistic heres hoping she does have a midas touch to create a miracle.
I really agree I love her though and support her all the way… One of her competitor is big mouth which is consist of veteran and big names in the industry, I really praying this to be successful, because I’m rooting for her . although we SESANG do our outmost to show how we love her by promoting her as we can…we believe her.🇵🇭
Webtoons are actually popular in a lot of places. Lots of people in US read them, myself included, and I’m alsways nervous when I read one and ten find out that it’s going to be made into a show because they are quite good. Both Business Proposal and Uncanny Counter were webtoons first. I found out how international they were when Russia invaded Ukraine, and it turned out several of the authors I was reading were Ukranian and needed to put their webtoons on hiatus because they were trying to evacuate. Yes, many are originally posted in Korea and Japan, but there are a growing number of creators from Europe and Asia, especially Malaysia and Phillipines
