So C-actor Liu Yu Ning is going to go back-to-back what with wrapping The Legend of Jewelry with Zhao Lu Si just this month and now heading into filming for his next C-drama. It’s called A Dream Within a Dream (书卷一梦 Juan Shu Yi Mong) and is adapted from the same name novel. After a few actress names were surfaced to be the female lead, the confirmed casting will be Li Yi Tong who this year will have The Legend of Rosy Clouds likely airing as her period drama work while this drama is slated for 2025 arrival at the earliest. I’m good with this pairing but as always Li Yi Tong is good but never great when I watch her onscreen.
Why does China like ugly actors with small eyes? Liu Yu Ning, Cheng Yi, Wang Yi Bo, Li Hong Yi and Bai Jing Ting are ugly af but keep getting ML roles. Such heavy taste lol

It’s probably because most of them are actually decent actors who can convince us that they are the characters they are playing and NOT just their real selves parading around in pretty costumes. Name the super good looking dudes who are actually really good actors…?? Lol. I, personally, like Liu Yu Ning because he has the masculine energy to carry a male lead role and convince me that he’s actually a lover and a leader in the stories he’s in. All of our preferences are subjective anyways. I hate his real life hair lol, but I think he’s dreamy in period garb 🤩🤗😅 but again, it goes beyond aesthetics for me because I enjoy the mannerisms and expressions he uses in his acting and I love his speaking voice.
And Koreans, and Japanese, and Thais… I don’t understand their obsession with small eyes either. As a matter of fact, we should convince them to get all plastic surgery so that they get big doe eyes like yours.
Not all big eyes are beautiful. Some can be ugly too. Same with small eyes. You are probably not used to small eyes. it’s a combination of many things that makes a person attractive. Beauty is also subjective and a personal preference.
I personally never got the appeal of these actors as well, although Cheng Yi and Li Hongyi are bearable to me. I prefer actors with big sharp eyes like Eddie Peng, Dylan Wang, Liu Xueyi, Song Weilong etc.

Li Yi Tong was the rumored FL from the very beginning rumors of this drama started. In fact she was already confirmed as the FL as the document for the casting of extras which spread October last year by yxh accounts stated that both the FL and ML for the drama were already confirmed. All those other actresses were name dropped in melons just to spread the narrative that Liu Yu Ning is the c ent pariah no actress wants to work with. Unfortunately this has harmed Li Yi Tong too, with people claiming all those other actresses can step on her head and replace her. LYN is not that ugly. Small eyes can be beautiful too. He is tall and quite charming in costume dramas (looks good in a long robe) in my opinion. @Why – if you are not entertained by small eyes, how about watching some TeleTubbies for a change.
Yeah, LYT is okay but I’m not a fan of her. I’ve tried three of her dramas and never finished them. She has done a whole bunch a dramas too and I never bothered to check them out.
LYT’s acting is okay, but I somehow cannot warm up to her… She always gets FL role but somehow doesn’t have the FL aura… Psh brought up YCY, I think LYT is superior to YCY because YCY cannot even act. Is LYT similar class as Jing Tian? She is definitely not Yang Zi’s caliber.

He can sing, he’s a really good singer, I enjoyed a lot of his songs.
As for acting it’s simple. He has enough fame and resources that if he could, he would be moving to more serious projects. That assures a long acting career. He is stuck here which isn’t the worst, he is obviously getting good money but it means he has limits on his longevity. It’s true he has singing to fall back on so it’s probably not bothering him.
He can’t act, goodness. It should be obvious by now. Maybe it wasn’t when he was acting in supporting roles, but once he started playing the ML his non-acting showed him up so bad, it was super cringe. Also, the amount of filter in A Journey to Love to smooth over his features, when the others didn’t need the same amount, is hilarious.
Truly some LYN haters here. If you don’t like him, just do NOT watch his dramas. So simple !!
