Li Xian and Zhou Yu Tong’s New Romance C-drama Will Love in Spring Off to Strong Reviews and Viewership
Last week on April 22nd a new C-drama premiered the Tencent modern romance Will Love in Spring (春色寄情人) starring Li Xian and Zhou Yu Tong adapted from a novel. Neither of the leads are liuliang or buzzy search stars but still this drama was getting pretty strong pre-airing interest due to the age-appropriate coupling and the general promos making the drama seem warm and sexy. It’s been a week now and the commentary is really strong in Douban and the online chatter has only grown with good work of mouth for the lead couple’s chemistry, interesting character set up and growth development, and a strong writing/directing combo. Check if out if you’re looking for a drama to watch that is currently on the It list in C-ent.
It’s one of my favorite airing shows (Korean + Chinese)! The story is really good and the actors have a great chemistry!
I really don’t understand the “they’re not famous enough”, who cares? They’re good actors, the supporting cast is pretty good too. They both look beautiful and natural.
Yh, Koala doesn’t really need to put that. Who cares how buzzy they are? although Li Xian is no slack in the industry and Zhou Yu Tong is pretty well known too.
I am in love with this drama. The elephant in the room hasn’t been mentioned, I don’t think, but the relationships are grounded by a theme of death and dying. Here in the USA, we do not view death with the profundity characterized in this series. Can’t wait to see how the main characters, and secondary as well (leads bf and her blind date doc are so CUTE), turn out. I haven’t seen any of the actors before, and I think they are all really wonderful. Quality writing, direction, cinematography, set design, costumes, locations are all superb.
NOTE: when the family send He’s ashes up on one of his kits, below them is an inlet of water and buildings. Does anyone know where that is? It’s stunning.
There isn’t any typical plot, the strong thing ab this drama is their lines, their conversation is very interesting, and lead characters are interesting, top acting and the main leads age and appearance are matching
Not like it matters when the drama is good, but Li Xian is pretty big and considered a semi traffic star though. He’s just more low key about it. ZhouYutong has also built quite a reputation for starring in a series of really solid well received urban dramas. Just because their team isn’t working overtime doesn’t mean they’re not popular with the general public. Regardless, it’s a really great show with amazing chemistry. Supporting casts are all so charming too.
This one is great. Will be curious how it performs, but love the chemistry between the leads and both their performances.
I am in love with this drama. There is something about watching a community interact and a family fight and then awkwardly making up. Its so healing. I need more dramas like this being made.
I’ve followed your blog for over a decade, and am commenting for the first time to say that this show, while completely unrealistic, feels near perfect for now – the directing (mundane moments/places are shot beautifully), the writing (thoughtful dialogue, witty conversations, though some parts are still cheesy, esp the reflections on love), the onscreen chemistry of the whole cast (esp the fam dynamics, so imperfectly heartwarming). No other drama in recent memory comes close to this level of crack. Ok fine I was quite taken in by LLTG/LYF (always thankful for your translations), but this seems more relatable as an urban drama… ok my point is it is worth the watch, I even lost complete interest in a famous but overrated kdrama because of this. I hate to compare but the timing just made me think “this is the feels that a really good drama should deliver.”
Long time follower who commented for the first time ever as well! This show is special.
Oh wow I must check it out based on the rare raves and agreed that a certain Kdrama is very popular but overrated. LOL. ZYT exuded a quirky aura in a drama costarring with Gong Jun where she totally overshadowed the presence of GJ and stole the show. LX has never been a factor for me in any of his dramas but I don’t dislike him.
BTW, why “love” in the English drama title again? Cdrama has to quit this cheesy habit of naming a romance drama. Nonetheless, the Chinese title isn’t any way better either. LOL
in the trending pretty-boy dense Cdrama land, LX is a breath of fresh air, rougishly handsome in such a subdued way. and ZYT! I love the disaffected ease and ‘song chi gan’ with which she carries herself, so rare in the overly made-up and curated realm of C-actresses. Together, such simmering chemistry just from shorts alone. Will have to move this up my list of dramas to watch when I find time.
I thought this was a great drama choice for LX..Steering away from idol dramas. Its very slice of life, community. ZYT always have a strong screen presence. The whole premise was just very different and interesting.
@Somebody. The source novel is called Lover (情人)
OMG! LOL at the novel title, even worse than the drama title! I’d definitely by pass it if browsing web novels online.
This drama will be my favourite drama and would be on my rewatch list.
Last weekend i started watching this drama and crying for hours.
Will Love in Spring is my current healing drama.
I’m with you.. I laughed and I cried in so many scenes and I was not expecting myself to. It’s one of the best drama on air right now.
Love the leads and their chemistry feels very natural. The entire casts are great. A very subtle drama and with so much heart. Love the relationship between family, friends and the community; love the dialogue in the drama..
This is definitely in my rewatch list. Highly recommended.
Took you long enough Koala. I was wondering when you where going to post about this drama. This is really worth the hype to be honest. It is very engaging and mature and i really like the conversations the leads have together.
Another thing i like about this drama is how it depicts disabled people. As a disabled person myself, it really resonates with me and i kinda understand the FL more. A beautiful drama overall. MUST WATCH!!!
I have finished this one already!!
It is quite a realistic drama and not very heavy to the eyes.
Me likely this as well. Will probably my rewatch drama in the coming several years. Love how natural everything is, from the make up to the cinematography, even entrances to cottage and homes. Conversations -top notch. Family arguments and reconciliations real and good templates for families navigating intergenerational divisions in outlook and behavior. Wondering if anyone can answer this: is the PD female or male?
It sounds a lil like “Meet Yourself” which was a strong success last year. Good for LiXian 🙂
Yeah, it’s a lot like Meet Yourself as in its slice of life, though the themes are different. I like that Li Xian is steering clear of the idol dramas and is featuring in more down to earth matter of fact dramas. He’s got the looks and charisma for it and comes off as just an average joe or an everyday man. I’ve completely enjoyed his performances in everything I’ve seen him in whether it’s Meet Yourself, Go Go Squid or Will Love in the Spring.
He is making good decisions picking dramas like that
It’s the best modern drama by C-ENT
I’ve watched many k-dramas and from different countries this is one of the best awesome actors and great storylines I hate to see it end.
It’s not like Meet Yourself at all that I dropped after 1 or 2 eps. Meet Yourself is too rosy to be realistic and looks all fake.
I finally checked this out and binged 7 eps straight. This is perhaps the best C drama I’ve tried to watch recently among all (modern or costume), and one of the best C dramas I’ve ever watched so far. Kudos to excellent directing that made actors shine. Cameras moved from scenes to scenes with brilliant transitions and lighting, and each setting looked aesthetically pleasant but not overkill to be unrealistic. There’re many highlights in the drama I enjoyed: low-key flirtation, slow-burned chemistry, low-key comedy and quips that made me burst into laughs, low-key melo that spoke of volume of sorrow in life nonetheless. There are new ideas in the storylines that have never been seen in other dramas. The hero is unique in terms of his profession in funeral home where some touching stories over there make viewers feel empathetic and related. Such creative writing with novel concepts. I love it so far. Although there were some slow moments that usually appeared in a melodrama and I used to be too impatient to tolerate, the story was well paced overall, not a drag.
Great cast BTW! Brilliant writing and excellent directing just brought out the best from the actors. I’m becoming a fan of ZYT whose acting was nuanced but not all over the top. I started to see the charisma of LX whom I had trouble paying attention to in other dramas. I hope everything keeps being this good until the end.
Besides Beyond Evil, this is another drama I’m currently looking forward to new eps. Without self discipline, I’d stay up to binge the series. LOL.
