K-actresses Han So Hee and Yoona Walk the Red Carpet at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival

It’s time for the K-stars to descend on the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and the first two are Han So Hee and Yoona. They walked the red carpet on the same day this Sunday and absolutely brought the classic K-dressing looks. Han So Hee was in a white dress and Yoona in a pink dress, colors that are favored among K-actresses for being innocent and demure. Han So Hee had a more daring look with her hair in a messy fishtail braid while Yoona went full princess with the classic updo and glamorous jewels to accentuate. I found both ladies gorgeous at the event albeit playing it safe and in the long run forgettable in looks.

K-actresses Han So Hee and Yoona Walk the Red Carpet at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival — 38 Comments

  1. Han Sohee looks great, such a neat, classic look, love the flower accessory in her hair. Can anyone identify it? Is it from Boucheron, whose ambassador she is?

  2. I’m really not a fan of white dress on a already very white person. But I really like her haircut.

Yoona looks very classic in this style.

  3. Yoona’s dress is a lovely colour but looks rather ill-fitting/overwhelming her frame, probably because of the odd bodice structure (I appreciate a design risk but it looks like it’s standing away from her body? It needs a stiffer material to pull that look offf)

Han Sohee’s dress is white but has some details for visual interest and fits correctly, the real point of interest in her look is her hair – that slightly undone braid accentuated with the jewelled clip is perfect for Cannes/French Riviera glam and makes her stand out, every other starlet on the red carpet chooses showy necklaces or earrings but she skipped those and went for the hairclip… 10/10 to her tsyling team.

  4. Yoona try her best to look like a princess or anything..,but in term of visual Han So Hee > Yoona..even a messy hair HSH still look like a goddess♥

  5. Both are dressed rather dull. One looks like it’s made for an old matron and the other like a raddled ballet dress. Unflattering for both ladies. The colors are awful, too.
Seriously, these ladies are young and beautiful. Why wear something so bland and generic for a Korean red carpet show, when you are in sophisticated Cannes/ Côte d’Azur/France? The international opportunity to stand out of your constricting Korean entertainment ways. Be young, free and bold. Aging comes so fast and then they have all the time in the world to wear such meaningless gowns.

    • Both hairstylists should be fired, too. A ballet bun and a messy French braid?!

Nothing special for the occasion for both in dressed, hairstyles and make-up.

They only thing I like are the jewelries, in particular the necklace.

  6. I don’t know much about fashion to be honest being an oldie but I think they both look good! It’s hard to carry out garments that actresses
like ann Taylor joy or zendaya.

  7. Both are pretty but dressed too safe , too classic, they aren’t Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn who used to shine even with classic dresses but it was 50 Years ago ! @Countdown named Zendaya , and i agree , she looks always fantastic . Koreans love fashion so why their celebrities don’t dare when they go to international events . Even at the MET gala they don’t stand out .

    • I still remember those outfits Fan Bingbing wore to Cannes… I may not like them but they are very memorable and distinctive. I really feel Cannes is really a good stage for Korean inspired Haute Couture too… Saying that I guess not many Asian has the confidence to pull off such looks as Fan Bingbing can.

      • Fan Bingbing was always amazing at Cannes, i don’t know chinese stars but i know her because even french medias which covered the festival mentioned her back then .

  8. They both are just there as models for jewellery brands (Qeelin for Yoona and Boucheron for HSH). Actually, to be fair to Yoona a couple of her films are on the film market here too. I prefer HSH’ s styling here out of the two but both look pretty but utterly forgettable on the red carpet. Pretty but boring is really all we can expect from Korean actresses.

I always wonder if it’s humbling coming to international events like this where they are just part of the scenery compared to the adulation they receive in SK. I was watching the montée des marches (red carpet) and it was basically crickets for Han So Hee. There were more shouts when Yoona appeared as she is more famous but nothing compared to what she is used to.

Random because I love the business side of fashion but I noticed the CEO and founder of Qeelin have attended both Cannes events with Yoona and the CEO of Kering Group, François Henri Pinault posed for a pic with them and Yoona last night so looks like they are very invested in her as a face of their brand. Kering are the luxury goods conglomerate who owns Qeelin and also Balenciaga, YSL,Gucci among others. Kering Group are pushing hard for Qeelin’s expansion outside of China and HK into Korea and the West.

    • I’m getting tired of this type of comments. Shouts from photographers and big commotions mean nothing. Only the biggest Hollywood stars get them, but so what? Almost none of them has ever won an actual awards either at this festival or at other grand ceremonies (Oscars, Baftas, Emmys etc). They are well-known simply bcs American and in a smaller part British media is everywhere. So what makes them superior to Asian and other European actors? The Best Actress trophy was won last year by Turkish actress Merve Dizdar. Do you think she got the treatment you are talking about before she got that award? On the other hand, someone like Zendaya would definitely get that treatment, but where is her award or film-screening? She is just the same as these Chinese and Korean “brand models” everyone is yapping about, acting like they are some influencers who bought their way in so they can brag on instagram. They are obviously big enough stars to be ambassadors for such brands, and important enough that these brands are bringing them there and treating them like VIPs (sometimes VVIPs) at every event.

      • Great comment. No one knew Merve Dizdar who was, even though she has been giving great, underrated, mostly supporting performances in Turkish tv and cinema. There’s also Samal Yeslyamova from Kazakhstan who won best actress in 2018 and barely had film credits and virtually zero recognition, even in Kazakhstan I guess, yet still won over well-known actresses. Indian media hypes Aishwarya Rai for being at Cannes every year, focusing obsessively on her beauty and her fashion, yet chooses to ignore the one film that made it into the main competition after 30 years – I mean, India is one of the biggest, if not the biggest countries by film production! If you want to blame anyone, blame the festival organizers who lean into the glamour to bring in advertisers. It’s a win win situation for everyone. The festival gets money, the brands get promotions, and the stars get bragging rights for their intended audiences. Sorry I’m going off on a tangent here, but do you see so many models and influencers in Berlin? No, because Berlin wants to maintain their serious, artsy reputation. Interestingly enough two Chinese actors won best actor and actress in Berlin in 2019, but the same people who are so annoyed by Chinese stars having a good time at Cannes will probably dismiss them as boring, charisma-free, serious veteran actors.

      • @Mara

Comparing Zendaya, one of the hottest world stars to these two. Stans of Asian stars sure are something.

And Zendaya has an Emmy, BET and a Golden Globe. But yeah, that doesn’t suit your rant.

        These two have what again?

  9. It’s weird, I can never decide if I find Han Sohee pretty – here she’s gorgeous. Her face has low visual weight so I think it easily gets overwhelmed even by voluminous hair. This look is perfection and I love the corset inspiration.

However, hopefully we’ll see the same fun poked at Korean celebrities attending Cannes as brand guests. You know, since we the commentariat do that about the Chinese celebrities who attended.

    • Haha…crickets from them…not a peep…and they were writing paragraphs on paragraphs in the other post to justify their hate, lol.

      • @Layan,

Oh but don’t you know, Korean celebrities are sooooo much classier than Chinese celebrities. It’s not the same thing, ok!*

        *It’s the same thing

  10. HSH looks beautiful, but that hairstyle on her only looks good if she’s moving or suddenly turning back for a pic – her frontal pic looks bad.

Did not like Yoona’s look from hair to dress although the pink color was stunning. I think she didn’t have that top asset to carry that big V shape neck on her which looked pretty dramatic, but she only paired it up with a princess bun.

  11. Nice ladies for the all the dressup work, but unfortunately, these did not create much buzz in Cannes. They look beautiful!

  12. @Mara , Zendaya won a Golden Globe . But that’s not what is important , Cannes may be a film festival but at the end it’s more a festival to gather stars ! People , medias are there to see stars and not the winners of the last year . It’s not diferent from Oscars , and i’m french . Do you think that people know who is the winner of the Nobel Prize of literature ? But they know who is Stephen king or JK Rowling ! Sad but true . With that said , when i watch the list of the winners of Le prix d’interprétation , almost them already were known for other works ! Antonio Banderas, Jack lemmon, MarLon Brandon, Paul newman,Jack Nicholson,Tim Robbins, …..Bette Davis, Sophia Loren, Vanessa Redgrave,Isabelle Huppert, Helen Mirren, Barbara Hershey,Meryl Streep,Diane Kruger… and i could write many more names . The list of unknown is really short .

  13. HSH’s style looks French that I like. It suits her and tamper down the fiery image she got form that bad publicity not long ago.

    • That is a good point…understated and low profile may suit her this year… Maybe next year, she can try something different. She can carry different looks. After reading her childhood, I find it hard to dislike her. I do hope she will ride thru this bad year…

    • @Somebody , french actresses are bold when it comes to outfits, they wear creations even when they don’t fit them and make them look ugly ! HSH’s style for the red carpet is too pretty and classic . On the other hand HSH ‘s personnality is more fit for France than South korea . HSH’s reminds me of Sophie Marceau who always speaks her mind and takes backlash . But Sophie Marceau stills the favorite french actress in an annual popular poll since years even if she didn’t do any projects .

      • Han So Hee needs to improve on her acting first… she is still raw. Need to lessons..
She is pretty/beautiful with a unyielding character… She need that into mould that to her acting and stand out.. I find her character not uncommon in UK female artistes… but for Asia, they rather low profile and keeps mouth shut….

      • @cahill, it’s interesting you compared her with Sophie Marceau. Yes, they share a bit similarity in appearance. But I do think Marceau is a way way better actress than HSH although I only watched one movie of Marcea. I watched a classic Anna Karenina cos I was a fan of Leo Tolstoy and read that novel a couple of times.

BTW, I had no idea French women are known to be fiery. LOL. Americans think the French are very delicate and dainty. Being French is considered fashionable in the US. LOL. I couldn’t even believe my son chose to take 3 years of French rather than Chinese as the 2nd language. It may be the most popular language next to Spanish here at school. Spanish is popular in the States cos we have a large population of Hispanic descent.
