I feel like Tang dynasty period C-drama Brocade Odyssey is one of those long on the shelf projects just waiting for release but my recollection is totally off as the drama filmed in Q4 2024. That means if it airs in the coming weeks itโs actually arriving earlier than expected but the timing is good for the cast as female lead Tan Song Yun just finished a high viewership modern romance with As Beautiful as You and now Youku wants to ride her buzz and get this one out as well. Male lead Zheng Ye Cheng is one of those super handsome yet very underrated male leads who can act and has the visuals but just hasnโt lucked into a major breakout. If this drama is good and gets good ratings Iโll be so thrilled for the cast.
There are weird casting choices and this one is weird from both the leads itself…
Well this is an interesting pairing, setting aside the age difference at least I can…
I swear I just wrote about Song Joong Ki having his first baby and then…
At the end of the day, the core of any good drama remains the Story,…
If I didn't know this drama was a romance set in space and done K-drama…
If Wang Xing Yue ever needs extra money he can be a professional dubber for…

ME Too, ME Too, ME Too, ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ. Both will delivery but I really hope script is good!!!!! ๐ค๐ค
She has another drama with Hou Ming Hao which I am very looking forward to, hope it gets released on this year.
I agree that Zheng ye cheng needs a real boost. He has looks and talents, just need a really good show. Itโs always nice to see him having strong chemistry with all his leading actresses.
Her acting is very good. I want her to be partners with Bai Lu. I wish two actors I like were in the same drama.
Writing and directing matters the most for a costume drama. Acting and chemistry aren't enough to appeal to viewers like me. Under the Power and The Sword & the Brocade were two bad examples. Both TSY's costume dramas failed me. TSY had decent delivery of modern dramas with good acting. Nonetheless, it seems the productions of C dramas have been focusing too much on elaborating settings and stylings to be slack in delivering powerful messages and intriguing stories.
Among those I've watched recently, the Double is by far the only costume drama on par with Kdrama that I would recommend to others. Given the overall production quality of C dramas, I'd better hold the hope low and perhaps will have another pleasant surprise like the Double.
Hahaha. I would not recommend The Double for those who watch K-dramas (known mostly for their quality). The Double has notable flaws. It is addictive, so I consider it a fast-food drama. It has good points such as the great performances of Li Meng and Joe Chen, and the strong presence of Wang Xing Yue. But by my standards, it still doesn't have enough artistic values to put it on par with a good K-drama. With a decent one it would probably work.
