Meng Zi Yi and Zhang Ling He the Leads for Tencent’s Big Budget Period C-drama Tigers Sniff the Rose
So this week there is word that Tencent’s preparation for an upcoming period C-drama t0 start filming soon has soft signed both leads. The female lead is Meng Zi Yi and she got the role right after her leveling up with the popular drama Blossom. Fans of the drama wanted the male lead to be Lin Rui so the two would reunite but that would just be too soon. Instead the male lead Tencent wants is Zhang Ling He and goodness would these two together onscreen by insane levels of pretty. The drama in question is titled Tigers Sniff the Rose (Chinese title Shang Gong Zhu 尚公主) and is a palace political intrigue romance between a princess and the rising young prime minister.
The title is so odd…I’m sure they will do well. Wasn’t he prime minister before? I’m glad she is getting more roles though. She deserves it.
Oh please don’t be something like the Princess Royal!
It’ll be such a nightmare lol.
And don’t be something like Kunning too. The execution was meh.
Both dramas aren’t perfect but I still enjoyed them more than other popular historical dramas
Ohmygawd you guys… hahaha I feel you…
Those dramas felt like it was in a brink of being good or I can imagine it being good but there was just some wall that it could not push through…
praying for something good…
I too enjoyed both dramas. It took a few episodes for me to get into them, but there were enough political intrigues and angst to keep me vested. I thought the relationship do-over in the Princess Royal was a fun watch as you see its growth between two, rather jaded people. The romance was a slow burn which worked for me. The young actor who played the SML was the plot driver and he was terrific. And both dramas had pretty intelligent script.
Why does the English title always sounds so straneg?
Hahahaha…as expected. lol
Everyone what Cdramas are you all watching right now? I need some recommendations preferably for costume dramas.
Not a costume drama, but FILTER with Tan Jian Ci and Li Landi is fresh and funny contemporary fantasy / SF drama with heart.
Meng Zi Yi is a very laid back person and filming with her is like relaxing. She is similar to Yang Zi who off screen is fun to talk to. Zhang LingHe on the other hand is more shy, he takes time to warm up. I feel Meng Ziyi is will good for him. When Zhang Linghe relaxed into his role, he can act.
I am looking forward to both their chemistry. Happy Meng Ziyi have moved on from all the silly ‘scandals’ that I feel was forced onto her. I have a soft spot for this actress.
MZY is such entertainment in variety shows!!!

Yes..she can laugh at herself, few celebs can do so willingly. She has a positive energy.
Goodness, I don’t like MZY – attitude or looks wise. She seems to be getting more roles than Li YunRui whom I adore and thought was the better actor of the two in Blossom. Zhang Ling He isn’t a good actor at all and emotes poorly. But I guess this is standard cdrama idol fare – just swapping around different combos of liuliangs etc.
I didn’t realise MZY is such a beauty until someone posted her childhood and bare faced photos.
Her usual look (in dramas) is like a painted doll and didn’t do justice to her natural beauty.
I don’t quite like MZY. I feel she pays more attention to how she looks rather than how she portrays a role. Anyway I expect thick powder and some tiny smudge on her face when playing desperately down and out. I mean look at poor yang zi in blossomed peony. Don’t think mzy can survive those early ep.isnt she much older than zhang linghe?
She’s 2 years older but ok…
oh boy here we go again.Whenever they say its a big budget S+ or etr drama and I end up watching it… scripts arent really a high budget at all let alone acting
It’s probably the actors and notoriety invested into it that levels it up like that. Cdramas lately feel like the Russian roulette lately the ones you expect to be good falter and the ones that seem pitiful or lame actually do better than expected. I never trust that levels they give their dramas anymore.
I don’t like the English title… the word “sniff” denotes an aroma of something smelly.
