So we all want dramas produced well, and budget is a top element since cheap costumes and sets just drag down the visuals no matter how much filming and editing magic happens. But the big budget free flowing money days have been over for a few years in C-ent so the S+ (highest level) budget C-dramas are only a handful a year and need to be big hits to recoup the investment. Xianxia C-drama A Beautiful Destiny was recently upgraded to an S+ budget due to the likely casting of male lead Yang Yang to join already cast female lead Zhang Jing Yi. The drama is slated to start filming in the fall with an eye towards late 2026 release.
