Award Winning Hit K-drama Stove League to Get J-dorama Adaptation After the Success of the J-version of Marry My Husband
I am leery of having one thing work and then just repeating it thinking it can happen again but let’s hope for the best. K-drama Stove League (Hot Stove League) which was both a popular hit and also award winning will be getting a J-dorama adaptation. This comes on the heel of the success of the J-version of Marry My Husband, and like that drama Stove League J-version will also be a Korean and Japan joint production. The J-version will star Kamenashi Kazuya in the role that Namgoong Min hit out of the park as a grand slam home run, and goodness I am so seated for this. Kame in a sports movie, inject that into my veins please. Baseball is also insanely popular in Japan so this remake feels extra primed to succeed.

Hot Stove League was surprisingly good for me, as I had never liked a sports drama before.
By the way, Byond Evil also has a Japanese adaptation titled Kaibutsu. I haven’t seen any episodes yet; I’m waiting for it to be fully released. But I haven’t seen any buzz around it.
Kaibutsu has three episodes so far and I consider them inferior to the ones in the original source. J-dramas have always given me the impression of having cheap production.
Wow, two of my favorite K dramas will be adapted. I love everything about Hot Stove League and ML’s acting in particular in Beyond Evil.
Beyond Evil is one of my favorites as well. In fact, it was the first K-drama I watched.
Stove League struck me as sensitive and realistic, I even found myself empathizing with the characters who had rather questionable actions. Lol. I discovered Park Eun Bin in this drama and it’s been a treat to keep watching her!
I have a lot of K-dramas to watch. But I probably won’t watch anything from China anymore this year.
LOL about the comment on China. I used to have similar feedback about Cdrama. Some Cdrama fans visiting this site are bitter about that LOL. Now, I’m still lackluster about Cdrama. But I do find one or two each year watchable.
@SOMEBODY nah stop lying. I bet y’all just like HSL male lead’s looks, it’s halo effect actually.
LOL. This perception of me is out of nowhere. I love EVERYTHING in HSL. The FL PEB is my fave actress.
The man wearing a suit in the poster is the one who appeared in Hyomin’s Sketch music video lol.
Going to check it out.🤣
in comparison with South Korea, why do China and Japan generally have to resort to remakes or live-action adaptations instead of creating original scripts? Will it be easier that way?
It’s definitely easier in C-ent. The novels are popular but the incentive to adapt them into a drama is really due to wanting to appeal to the fan base of the original IP. China has too many new faces and many of them don’t have the pull to attract a wide audience. Remakes serve the same purpose.
A lot of KDramas are remakes too (Criminal Minds,Designated Survivor: 60 Days, 18 Again, Suits, Life on Mars, Money Heist, Romance is a Bonus, The World Of The Married, Less Than Evil, etc.) or adaptation from manhwas like Jdrama from manga.
A huge reason the MMH j version worked was because it was by the same production company. The show imo was more korean than japanese (obviously the source material and director were korean maybe that’s why). But I guess that’s also why I liked it a lot. I think it was a better j/k drama collaboration than What comes after love.
I am having a hard time navigating this site today… finally after afew hours, I can read latest post…
I thought it was just me. And some articles show zero comments even though the tag says it has x number of comments. I give up lol.
I think somehow the web design team responsible for the tech in the backdrop decided to make users unhappy in rotation. LOL. I was not able to read most comments last week. Now it looks better but others are experiencing glitches.
Kamenashi is one of the very few Japanese actors who are my type visually. I am indifferent to sports dramas but I will watch it for him.
Curious to know who will be the female lead
Anime/manga adaptations have been underperforming in recent years with the exception of One Piece. IMO it is a good move for the Japanese to adapt productions from their neighboring countries as long as it is not a waste of resources.
There is something I noticed. Every time Korea adapts Japanese dramas it usually does more poorly than the original and sometimes for Japan as well. So the Marry my Husband Japanese version is the first in a long while that it seemed to work out. There is some nostalgia of Kamenashi Kazuya but lately it’s been some time since I loved a drama he has been in for some time. Maybe it is just the different cultures and quality production and I guess acting presence is just so fairly different between countries. I hope it works out but it’s Namgoong min he will be compared to, that is tough to outshine.
Oh I just found out that Namkoong is a rare two-character South Korean surname…I thought his name was Koong Min🤦♀️
League Stove or whatever it’s called is a bad drama. I don’t understand why others like it. They should have adapted something better and fresh like My Demon or The Devil Judge.
What a circus. Are you going to lurk around this site and wait for me to comment on a post so you can pretend to be another user and disparage what I like? I know you’re getting worked up just because I said I don’t really enjoy Liu Yuning’s C-dramas, but at least be careful not to use the same email address so that I can’t recognize the avatar. LOL.
Oh I see! A LYN fangirl in the rabid mode! LOL. LYN is in my blacklist after giving a shot to his drama after drama. He has O appeal to me.
Funny that people’s taste varies so wildly. HSL is one of my fave dramas vs. My Demon that I consider a flop LOL.
@Somebody, just check out the barricade of irrational fans who jumped on the post related to Inferno of Wings, just because I commented that he doesn’t fit (or come close to) the description of the male lead visually. I was respectful in my comments towards him, but doesn’t stop them from being high-pressure. LMAO. They have even gone so far as to impersonate my nickname. I was told that this is how folks behave in this site, but it makes me WOW to think that they walk among us. But we can always grab our popcorn. Lol.
SOUTH KOREAN DRAMAS SUCK
Omo im curious about this. Kame can be hit or miss but he did so well in Ichi Pound no Gospel as a boxer, so maybe he is suited to sports dorama.
I feel like Stove League would be a good fit for a jdorama adaptation – when compared to other kdramas they could be adapting. It’s got that human drama genre that jdoramas like.
Yes. The Japanese are good at portraying human relationships in their fiction.
I’ll be interested in the J adaptation. HSL’s story is deep. Kim Eun Bin really knew how to pick meaningful scripts to work with. That’s why she’s got the chance to shine in Extraordinary Attorney Woo.
I surprisingly love Hot Stove League, eventhough no love story in it.. The story is fabulous and Nam Goong Min is rock as always.. I also very love Park Eun Bin character here, it is quite different with her previous role.
I think the vibes of the story is very suitable for Jdorama
Namgoong*
It is not written separately. There are few Korean surnames with 2 letters such as Namgoong (남궁)
