Youku Confirms August 16th Premiere of Xianxia C-drama When Destiny Brings the Demon with Chen Fei Yu and Wang Ying Lu
I’ll be surprised if this C-drama does blockbuster ratings but it does have a strong IP source material and the issue viewers may have are the leads. Youku will release xianxia C-drama When Destiny Brings the Demon starring Chen Fei Yu and Wang Ying Lu this Saturday August 16th. It’s based on the novel Offering Salted Fish to Master and is a multi life growth and romance story with a master and disciple arrangement. I recall fans of the novel not being happy with the casting of either lead and it’s also known that Chen Fei Yu remains a limited actor while Wang Ying Lu hasn’t had any notable roles so far and is still pending a breakout. I’m curious enough to check this out and keeping expectations low it may end up being surprisingly entertaining.

I thought Wang Ying Lu was fantastic as Feng Baobao in I Am Nobody—I can’t imagine any other actress in that role. So I’m optimistic about this project even though I rarely, rarely like xianxia (with the exception of TMOPB and LBFAD).
He looks very young in the trailer and so does she…. kind of like kids playing dress ups? Hopefully it will be better than my first impression.

So far the only drama I could tolerate him in is Lighter and Princess. Anything else so far bored me.
I have zero expectations since I didnt read the novel but I feel like I might like this a lot more than some other famous ones. I dont know why I feel this way I dont even especially like lead actor. I really like and follow lead actress though. I trust her with this character.
So far it’s a fun and easy watch. Better than other xianxia dramas I’ve watched so far. FL as a lazy salted fish is relatable to me. Arthur Chen has a nice voice.
Surprisingly I’m following this drama but don’t know when I may drop the series. The production looks pretty crappy and cheap LOL. Both lead actors are doing fine. They are the main reason why I keep watching. They don’t overact that usually turns me off way more than underacting.
I still think Arthur Chen has potential given his impressive performances in Ever Night (that beat Dylan Wang by miles in the sequel) and Lighter & Princes. I don’t get this scathing opinion all over about him being a nepo baby thanks to his celeb parents. His private scandals so far have nothing to do with his acting IMO either. I don’t care about actors’ private lives as long as they don’t murder or rape or sell drugs. Among so many mass-produced actors in C-ent, Arthur still exudes unique aura and strong presence on screen, which welp, you may want to attribute to his actress mom or director dad if that’s part of the favor he’s inherited from nepotism. LMAO.
It’s my first time watching the FL. I know nothing about her. She is doing a decent job to depict a bubbly damsel time-traveling from modern to xianxia. I’m not the one for her visuals although she’s considered pretty enough for a xianxia FL. Her lines are funny, and she recited them effortlessly. So far, she is decent as the heroine.
Hahahhaha i cannot take this drama hahahhhahha when the fl showed i was like she is familiar, turns out, she was the female lead in I AM NOBODY, if you want to laugh loud, watch it hahhhahahhahhahhaha
The series is surprisingly good since I’ve never liked Chen Feiyu as an actor, but he is killing it as the stoic male lead here. Its also my first time watching Wang Yinglu but her comedic timing is on point. Definitely the best historical drama to come out this summer (unless Moonlit Reunion surpasses this).

i really really liked the drama . I loved the fl role but honestly story line could have been better . Ml acting is better in lighter and Princess than this drama.
