The Chinese title for C-drama The Wanted Detective is actually Calming Waves, which described the airing of the drama that came and went without much buzz or ripple. But I think those who checked it out like me and got inexplicably hooked are more than care to admit, and the drama may have legs in a better way than dramas with more airing buzz that don’t stick the landing and fade into oblivion after it’s done. The drama got 6.9 Douban ratings which is crazy high for a drama with such mid airing reception, but kinda deserves it IMO. There are five main mystery arcs and lots of twists and turns, I guessed the main bad antagonist early on and was correct, but it was my second guess and my first was wrong, which goes to show that the drama did do well in placing lots of red herrings. I’ve said it in my earlier post about the drama that it was the Wang Xing Yue bravura acting show, but that’s only among the main six leads, but there are lots of veterans doing compelling performances to paint the full drama picture with depth. With such decent Douban ratings this drama could get a second wind going forward.
