Kim Woo Bin’s Devil Genie Meets Suzy’s Psychopath Actress in Kim Eun Sook Penned Fantasy Drama Genie, Make a Wish Premiering Tomorrow October 3rd on Netflix
Okay, I am so sat for this now. The latest previews for Genie, Make a Wish have convinced me this is back to being right up Kim Eun Sook‘s alley of taking a totally random set up and crafting a compelling story. I mean, City Hall is still my favorite all-time K-drama even nearly 20 years later. The drama premieres tomorrow Friday October 3rd on Netflix, and despite the odd and lackluster early premieres which I think has tempered the buzz, the recent promos showcase quirky and fun sparring between Suzy and Kim Woo Bin of the likes Kim Eun Sook excels at. We also get a fantastic supporting cast of Ahn Eun Jin, Noh Sang Hyun, Lee Joo Young, and Ko Kyu Pil. So bring it on, Genie boy with the bad wig and reformed murdery star with zero f%#ks to give.
Genie, Make a Wish:

@Koala, I love City Hall!
The trailer was not impressive, but I will for sure be checking out the first two episodes for KES and Suzy. Suzy looks really pretty. Not a good actor, but I still enjoy watching her on screen. KWB lacks oomph to be a KES male lead. I loved him in Heirs, but it has been 12 years, and he does not have the same buzz anymore. Noh Sang-hyun is just boring. Very curious how this will turn out.
I watched the first two episodes, and this is so wonky. Suzy is really pretty, and her styling is on point, but her acting is back to the Dream High era. She lacks the nuance to portray an emotionless psychopath, so it feels like she is reading from a book. KWB’s acting is okay, but the character is so unattractive. None of the characters have chemistry. The direction is horrible, and the writing is questionable.
I am curious about Koala’s thoughts.
That looks like fun!
I loved City Hall too! At first, I only checked it out because I was on a Cha Seung Won binge (The Greatest Love, Libera Me, etc.) but it is such an unusual genre (rural politics), the actors were great, and the story built up to a satisfying crescendo—it really is a gem.
Kim Eun Sook always uses familiar ingredients (characters with quirks, witty dialogue, the rich vs poor/the powerful vs the weak, a fated first meeting for the OTP) but presented in fresh ways every time (politics, school, patriots, goblins and grim reapers).
I am ecstatic to see Genie hijinks!
I find this so boring. I can’t continue anymore. The scenes that are supposed to be funny are not funny at all.
Suzy used to be so pretty and she still is but I think she lost too much weight and lost that glow to her. As for KWB, I can’t get into his acting and looks no matter how hard I try.
Genie had a very boring start. I’ve never been the one for KWB’s eccentric visuals. Nonetheless, his acting in the Heirs appealed to me, not in this drama though. His styling failed me. The two main characters are such a huge disconnect to me. Back to the old dramas after finishing exciting Tempest. I also found new pleasure in Stray Kids. LOL. Nothing can beat Kpop’s production values.
I mourn the sad state of Kdramas, when most comments are reminiscing about great kdramas from 20 years ago.
