Youku Releases First Stills for Period C-drama Transfer Gold Hairpin with Tian Xi Wei and Yan An
I’m a bit lol-ing at the first stills and posters for Youku C-drama Transfer Gold Hairpin (Jia Jin Zai 嫁金钗), but not necessarily in a bad way. I like the color palette and leads Tian Xi Wei and Yan An are holding court with strong presence in stills. But in many of the stills it looks like a smackdown is on the verge of taking place, the one above especially at first glance it looked like the two leads were swinging golf clubs on the way to a family to family gang fight. This drama is currently filming and would see Tian Xi Wei elevated to top billing and Yan An getting a big boost to male lead role. He’s got charisma but not sure about the range of acting, and in these stills he looks a lot like a buffer angrier version of Li Yun Rui lol. Anyhoo, it’s clear there drama is sure to spill a lot of tea and have a lot of conflict to power the narrative.
Looks like everyone can be elevated to top billing S/S+ dramas these days (as long as you have a big agency/strong backers?)
S+ means nothing. People say it about dramas and then the production looks like shit.
She must be the only one in her agency. They would invest heavily in her: visibility, marketing, and resources. Times have really changed. Before, for an actor to land top projects, you needed a big hit. Now, you just need to market yourself well, play with top actors, buy hot searches, and so on. Now, an agency can acquiring major IPs. No reason to be surprised anymore. The market for long dramas in China is dead for many reasons.
Her team right now used to be Deng Lun’s so she’s absolutely another resource monster

Yan An doesn’t make much of an impression on me, but I really like Tian Xi Wei. I have to say that the stills – particularly the group and the couple ones – almost look AI-generated.
I have fallen hard for TXW’s looks and acting when I first watched her years ago. But in recent years while she goes for first billing, she also did go for screen character change to strong cool chic character. Which kinda turned her into another pretty face in dramas for me. Her gaze lost its sparks it looks like marbles when she is acting now.It feels like she is acting while watching her she used to feel her characters…
