Hunan TV Period C-drama Dancing with the Tide Kicks Off Filming with Leads Tan Jian Ci and Lu Yu Xiao
A new period C-drama has started filming this week and it’s titled Dancing with the Tide (何不同舟渡 He Bu Tong Zhou Du). Airing on Hunan TV and streaming on Mango, the drama title is so familiar to me because this project has been in development for probably three years and has had so many familiar names attached or courted for the leads at various times. I kinda forgot about it since there was no news in recent months but I guess it finally got its act together and landed leads Tan Jian Ci and Lu Yu Xiao. I’m not sure about the onscreen visuals or chemistry of these two together but hey a fresh coupling that I’ve liked in prior dramas is always worth me keeping an open mind until I see the first promos.

She is on a roll. Hope for the best.
In the end, he ended up here lol
He spent so much money trying to show Linmon he is good enough for Qi Xia and it blew up on him. It’s so funny. But he really should understand his limits. This is perfect for him.
Utter nonsense. Why so sour?
Unlike other well known celebrities repeatedly accused of watering and buying ‘insider’ rumored casting, Tan Jian Ci openly spends his money on his work, like hiring world class professionals for his concerts, albums, and his recent music video, filmed in Korea; or shooting short films for LYF and his concert tour.
A universally recognized all around entertainer who excels in music, dance, variety shows, and acting has limits? LMAO
Thank you, Kokuto! Because of this thread and your positive comments, I checked him out. He is such an accomplished guy, and in his acting, that I’ve seen, so far, he has really impressed me.
Am currently watching Filter, a very different character to others he has played, and he is brilliant in it. Makes the drama for me. Particularly the physical comedic scenes. They are so funny, he totally commits.
The other actors are decent, too, they’d have to be to sell such a preposterous plot BUT it’s his performance that’s keeping me engaged, absorbed and giggling/laughing.
I shall seek out more of his works.
More deets please!
He paid for the edits of him as the character on Bilibili platform to get him in the sights of the production for the role of Qi Xia from Ten Day Ultimatum. Generally it’s not a bad idea, it’s a huge IP and getting the role would be huge for his career but realistically he neither fits the character nor does he have the standing to carry this investment. He should spend his money better, not shoot so high.
His international fans really don’t like this fact as you can see above but it’s well known in China lol
Yes, some sour fandom keeps spreading this rumor, without any receipts. Completely ignorant of the fact that success of Under the Skin 1 and 2 for Linmon had already put him well within the sights of the production, given season 2’s success basically rescued Linmon’s financials, and they wanted him for a season 3.
LOL! He fits the character better than some other pretty idols, and he’s doing a big budget IP right now, as well as another big budget drama later this year, so clearly that’s false.
You can keep whining about Shi Ri, but it only makes people wonder why you keep attaching Tan Jian Ci’s name to the drama?
He doesn’t fit Xi Qia at all. I know you haven’t read the novel because nobody who has would claim someone like him fits the character. For one, he lacks a good 15 cm in height. And no, he can’t wear his usual lifts in a modern drama.
His only real success were Under the Skin 1&2 where the drama plot carried the show. All his other ones were a disaster, he hasn’t passed 20 mil average per episode.
If Linmon thought he was so great, he would be filming Ten DU and he would be doing that without having to beg. Do you really think the industry would decide not to put him in major productions if he were really bringing in top money?
Just for the delulu, I highly recommend finding a Chinese fan of Wang Kai and having a talk about TJC and licking. Do they have opinions about that lmao
Enjoy your costume dramas.
The costume videos the production released for both leads were on fire. And both Nan Yi and Xie Que Shan in the book are complex outsider characters in a cat and mouse game of countries in conflict. Can’t wait to see to them brought to life by these two actors.
Any news regarding his dating scandal with a minor? Some people were cancelled for less than that…
Pretty much recognized immediately by the industry and his brands as a black marketing attack.
She wasn’t a minor. She kept lying about her age in various places, but even she came out right away and said she was an adult. Her story all fell apart once another actor came forward with court documents, from a case he won against her for defaming him with sexual rumors. She claimed in the court documents that she was a lesbian. So, then she got on a livestream and claimed that her relationship with him was platonic. LOL!
Where’s his denial then? What doesn’t he sue her?
He did deny it. So, she changed her story, and said they weren’t dating anymore, which was before she had to change her story again and say that their relationship was platonic. His studio said his lawyers were collecting evidence on something, so he may be suing. Unlike Ehe, who believes they are his accountant, I don’t have inside information on his lawyers or his studio. But a producer said there were a variety of reasons why a celebrity might not sue, including brands not wanting a legal mess in the news. And given he did three brand live streams around then, and the CNY advertising was starting, it could have been that. But besides that, what is he going to sue her over? Yes, she’s a liar, but she never claimed to be a minor or accused him of anything. That was black marketing pushing that. I guess he could sue accounts spreading that, and maybe that’s the evidence being collected.
The novel has a sad ending, really depressing ending. The main couples have strong and steaming chemistry in the book though (cuz the writer made them so) lol. TJC might be a good fit for the ML. The only weakness he has no way to overcome is his height. As expected, the hero is supposedly very tall. lol. Not sure about LUX. She has been a hit or miss to me. Her visuals in costume are less appealing to me.
Given the sad ending, I don’t think I’ll watch it to torment myself off busy work. Why should I? lol.
Its baffling to see so much hate on Tan Jianci here. The focus should be on the drama and characters. Though I feel he is above the historical idol drama he is a much much better actor, but still this role is much better than generic period drama and given his skills and dedication no doubt he will excel in it. Other than that I think Nan Yi has a perfect casting and the other actora are also great like Cao Jun and Jeremy Xu. So really looking forward to it.
PS. I am glad he didnt take Ten Days End and 15 days between two Capitals, both were rumoured with solid sources.
This should be good! Both are very charismatic actors and can generate good chemistry with costars!
What is even this comment section? Some folks here really, really need to go find a mediocre job that fits their lame character and simultaneously fills their time with productivity instead of coming here to rehash the same old “height” thing or Shi Ri excuse (where did Shi Ri came from in the context of this article anyway?) because it’s starting to look desperate. There’s only one fandom pressed about Shi Ri at the moment and it’s making the intention behind these comments even more obvious.
Tan Jianci did nothing to provoke some very pressed individuals yet recently they’re all over his business like flies on manure.
Y’all need to chill because this article ain’t even about your precious actor but about someone who you clearly hate anyway so why come here instead of joining the ranks of bullies you lot clearly belong to? Go hype up your fave. Did the water army money not hit your account yet? No sufficient balance in your Weixin wallet? Alipay balance needs to be topped up?
Be for real. And to think some of you people are full grown adults likely with kids and a husband back home. Stop being embarrassing. I guess your husbands all have over 1.90m right? REALLY tall guys, wow. Truly eye opening.
“Enjoy your costume drama” lolol which Chinese actor or actress hasn’t done a costume drama before? The lack of awareness is staggering. There are wars going on in the world right now. Bad stuff happening in real time to real, flesh and blood people.
There’s a reason why certain fandoms are deemed the bane of c-ent’s existence and it shows. At this point they should be classified as a criminal organization because the modus operandi is the same as every other mafia organization. Grow tf up.
Very well said. (🫡)
