Apple TV+ Drops Full Trailer for Multi-generational Korea/Japan/US Drama Pachinko Adapted from Novel By Korean-American Writer
The heart and soul of upcoming Apple TV+ drama series Pachinko is female lead Sunja, born in Korea before it became North and South, moved to Japan, and watched as her kids and grandkids explored further in the world including to the US. It’s broader than being called a K-drama though it has been associated with such especially after the K-drama worldwide expansion in the last two years primarily due to Netflix making a concerted investment and carrying so many K-drama on its platform. Apple TV+ released the full 2 minute plus trailer today and it’s glorious in the emotive breadth, taking viewers across the timeline of Sunja’s life and the people who come in and out of it. It reminds me of Chinese movie To Live and Japanese dorama Ashin, so bring your tissues and get ready to be touched deep inside and marvel at the tenacity of humans to weather the slings and arrows, valleys and peaks of life.
Trailer for Pachinko:
This looks so good, but why cast Suzy’s ex…
because the production team found him to be brilliant
In Vanity Fair’s interview with Pachinko’s exec director Soo Hugh, she said that it took them 6 to 7 months to cast the main actors, with a worldwide search. Everyone had to audition, no exceptions. It was a challenge casting in Korea because auditions are not a standard practice.
Because his acting is brilliant compared with your average actors
Lol, Suzy’s ex i thought Suzy’s dead ✌?
Can’t wait for your average oppar to be out acted by everyone around him. This project will really expose his mediocrity lmao
@Suzu
You’re so disgusting! What kind of life you’re living made you so easy to say such awful word to a celebrity who never harm you?
@adyjunjjhyun
No need to pretend to be his anti to drag Suzy!he has other exes too, why you always just drag her? they already moved on long time ago, but you still can’t move on?
suzy fans and their never-ending obsession with lmh, not surprised *sigh*
Suzy is his ex.
Why is there no mention of Ghost Doctor breaking 8%? It is the only tvn Mon-Tue drama since RoY to get those numbers and without the hype. Rain can still bring in an audience as can Kim Bum.
I’ve been waiting for this for almost ayear now. I’m already crying.
this looks great, I’m glad it’s not hype about one particular actor although I know places like this will make it about a certain someone *sigh*
Interestingly enough, I found out the book author said she is no longer involved with the show which I’m very curious why she left. Hope it’s good either way.
now he is a REAL hallyu star with organic success, not like that over-promoted netflix boy who can’t act for shit
The trailer looks so cool, visually and cinematically. It’s worth the year long wait. I am most impressed by Kim Minha’s teenage Sunja. She is exactly what I envisioned Sunja to be, plain, innocent, yet determined and strong. Her future looks bright.
The trailer is insane
Great trailer!!! Trying not to get my hopes up because book adaptations are rarely great but I’ll try to be optimistic:)
This looks beautifully made. I don’t know what it is – the color palette, camera angles, trailer cut – but it very obviously looks like a Western production of an Asian story. Aesthetically, it reminds me a bit of Memoirs of a Geisha.
Yes the muted palette used does give off that vibe! Excited to see all the actresses killing their roles. They’ll definitely hard carry this show
Very excited for this one, the trailer looks so good
Suzy is his ex.
😐
Looks like perfection. I can’t wait to see it.
