For those who haven’t watched tvN romance drama Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter (Tale of the Gyeryong Fairy) and don’t want to spoiled then stop now. I don’t mind being spoiled and actually watched the first two episodes of Mama Fairy before dropping it because it just didn’t hook me. Female lead Moon Chae Won was adorable as the fairy … Continue reading →
I thought the entirety of South Korea loved Lee Seung Gi so this reactions feels like as surprise and may be the first big controversy I’ve seen involving him. This week’s 2019 SBS Entertainment Awards it was the much younger Lee Seung Gi who took home the Daesang for his role in the variety show The Butlers (Master of the … Continue reading →
On another whirlwind year with plenty of celebrity datings, breakups, marriages, divorces and pregnancies, it’s nice to check in on a low key married couple with a kid who still seem so in love much to all the naysayers predictions. C-actor Chen Xiao and TW-actress Michelle Chen have been married since 2016 but started dating in 2014 after filming the … Continue reading →
Right now there are four dramas doing well in their respective ratings but two are surprise underdogs that are garnering ratings far above expected and the other two are high profile big budget expected successes that are just meeting expectations. As a whole this is a great month for K-dramas in a while and it’s thanks to the runaway success … Continue reading →
Earlier this month Park Shin Hye jetted to Hong Kong for what I thought was the MAMA ceremony but in actually to attend a store opening CF event for the jewelry brand Swarovski which she has repped for many years in South Korea. I got sidetracked by following along with the fun and frustrating watch of her currently airing tvN … Continue reading →
I think the knock on Park Shin Hye having a very marginal and excessively teary character in tvN fantasy AR drama Memories of Alhambra isn’t the entire picture. Eight episodes in and its clear this dram is not only Hyun Bin‘s male lead Jin Woo centric but it has an skewed male gaze where all the male supporting leads have … Continue reading →
There were no new episodes of Encounter (Boyfriend) this week and only time will tell if the preemption will hurt its momentum and ratings. Episode 8 ended on a swoony kiss and confirmation that the flirtatious some relationship of leads Jin Hyuk and Soo Hyun is now flat out like, but they don’t have the luxury of just dating like … Continue reading →
Guess I was wrong about not getting anymore celeb marriage news before year end, let’s now throw in another with a romance proposal and upcoming wedding in 2019. Stage, drama, and film K-actor Lee Pil Mo is bidding farewell to his bachelor days with a very public proposal to his actress girlfriend Seo Soo Yeon. He proposed at the end … Continue reading →
I’ve seen singer-actress IU perform live on stage and she’s got an incredible screen presence for one so petite not to mention singing solo without the flanking of an idol group. She spent her Christmas holidays in Taipei, holding a two night concert on the 24th and 25th as part of her 10th Anniversary Concert tour, with plenty of tracks … Continue reading →
This is likely the last celebrity wedding goodie before 2018 year end and it’s coming from very low key and critically acclaimed K-actor Park Hae Soo. He was amazing in his most recent hit K-drama Prison Playbook but has received rave reviews for all of his movie and dramas works without fail. I actually thought he was older because he … Continue reading →
The first drama posters are out for tvN rom-com Romance is a Bonus Book (How to Publish Love), slated to premiere at the end of January 2019 in the Sat-Sun time slot after Memories of Alhambra. So former Pinocchio costars and one of my favorite onscreen drama pairing will see a Lee Jong Seok drama take over from a Park … Continue reading →
Sorry for the successive posts on next year K-drama Vagabond but y’all know how much I love Lee Seung Gi and Suzy. Individually but their first go around in Gu Family Book was a hot miss for me so I’m cautiously hopeful the successive 5 years and a totally new drama narrative will work this time around. Overseas filming wrapped … Continue reading →
Success takes hard work and 2018 saw the first time that cable K-dramas fully dominated the landscape over Big Three network dramas, in both critical top 10 lists and comparative adjusted ratings. After nearly a decade of concerted effort to focus on K-drama quality production, the cable networks tvN, jTBC, and OCN have much to be proud of this year … Continue reading →
