SM Entertainment is on a roll, a roll aimed at conquering my aversion to their stable of young, pretty, and acting-challenged actresses. First they cast Yoona opposite Lee Bum Soo in Prime Minister and I (maybe called Prime Minister in Love), and then throw in Yoon Si Yoon to seal the deal. I’m a goner for that one already, no … Continue reading →
It’s a testament as to how far Jang Geun Seok has veered to the fringes of K-ent that news of his impending drama returns garners mostly reservations and disappointment from the general drama watching audience, with only his more devoted fans leading the cheering. I still vividly remember the You’re Beautiful craziness, and the year or so afterwards when everything … Continue reading →
I watch Heirs/The Inheritors and I still have no clue what it is I am supposed to be seeing. A teenage love story between a chaebol heir and a really poor girl? A high school after school special against bullying? A dysfunctional family squabble? I haven’t felt so utterly clueless watching a drama in a long time. Things happen but … Continue reading →
In my last post about the upcoming Taiwan comedy Campus Confidential with Bolin Chen and Ivy Chen, some folks thought that he was vastly underrated or not that popular. Despite his winning turn in In Time With You as the devoted best guy friend every world dreams about having, Bolin doesn’t quite have the international fanbase as some other Taiwan … Continue reading →
Wow, there sure is a lot of characters I don’t care about in Heirs in this post. Funnily enough, it’s all actors I like ranging from Choi Jin Hyuk to Im Joo Eun to Kang Ha Neul. At a certain point the drama narrative kicks in and like or not like an actor, the character is what reigns supreme at … Continue reading →
Drama crack has arrived! I’ve been waiting and waiting, like a thirsty traveler in the desert waiting to quench my drama soul with something that captivates me both mind and heart. With episode 6 of Marry Him If You Dare (Mirae’s Choice), this drama is officially drama crack for me. Expect lots and lots of posts from here until it … Continue reading →
In all my years and years of drama watching, I’ve yet to encounter a more preposterous and perplexing official posed shot of the leads of a drama attending the obligatory prayer ceremony. Korea still heavily practices rituals that may have shamanistic or Buddhist origins, and a prayer ceremony complete with offerings, incense, and prayer is something that occurs mostly as … Continue reading →
Heirs is pulling out the big guns. And by big guns, I mean the long awaited OTP kiss, which no matter how awkward or slightly inopportune narratively is always an audience lure. While the big kiss between Tan and Eun Sang won’t happen until episode 8 on Thursday, SBS is striking while the slight ratings uptick for last week’s episode … Continue reading →
There is sooooo much to digest in episode 5 of Marry Him If You Dare. This drama is not a light watch in the slightest, and the dialogue is so important that I even caution folks not to watch without subs because it’s crucial to understand what is being said. What happened in the future (which may or may not … Continue reading →
Look which cutie pie is back in the news! It’s a lovely coincidence to come across new pictures of Yoo Seung Ho at the same time when I’m watching the latest Yoon Eun Hye drama. These two would have never in a hundred years flitted through my mind as a potential onscreen pairing, and then Missing You (I Miss You) … Continue reading →
Not that I’m complaining or looking a gift horse in the mouth, but didn’t Marry Him If You Dare say that the leading lady Mi Rae had a choice about which of the two leading men she would choose to marry? I mean, that’s the entire premise of the drama, not to mention the sole purpose for future Mi Rae … Continue reading →
Empress Ki can be viewed as a glass half-empty or half-full depending on which side you want to throw your leap of faith. On one hand, there is established A-list actors Ha Ji Won and Joo Jin Mo playing the OTP in a mega sageuk written by the screenwriters of Giant and History of the Salaryman. On the other hand, … Continue reading →
It’s been four months since Joe Cheng was discharged from the army but he’s wisely taking his time to return to acting. When I look around the detritus of the Taiwan drama landscape, I can’t fault him or anyone with acting cred being hesitant to accept any drama without doing massive diligence. Joe’s lucky in that he’s had a long … Continue reading →
