For a trained actor, is acting like riding a bike and one never forgets how? In the case of Lee Dong Gun, I’ve said before that a five year hiatus is akin to starting over with a new generation of fans, but he’s got the ability and the charisma to melt those years away and make it like he never … Continue reading →
It’s been six months since Kim Tae Hee wrapped Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love, and I wish she would have quickly followed that up with another acting project to strike while her acting is hot. I’m still dealing with the mind blowing transformation of one of the most acting limited A-list actresses in Korea for the last decade into … Continue reading →
What is that you said? I can’t hear you over the ear splitting screaming still coming out of my mouth for the last 24 hours, give or take a few. I thought I had long since stopped caring whether deserving actors win awards or getting pissed over undeserving actors snatching a statuette. It’s a popularity context and a crap shoot, … Continue reading →
Come and take a piping hot first look at Jang Geun Seok and IU in the upcoming Pretty Man. The title was at times translated as Beautiful Man or Pretty Guy, but KBS is sticking with Pretty Man. This drama airs on Wed-Thurs after Secret on KBS, so if the ratings rankings currently hold, PM will have a nice cushion … Continue reading →
If I feel compelled to write about an actor or actress I’m not particularly keen on following his or her career, then it’s a sure sign that something really impressed me. Song Hye Kyo has been acting for over 15 years and I swear she’s never looked better. She was luminous and radiant in That Winter, the Wind Blows, and … Continue reading →
It’s the 5th year the Korean entertainment industry has run its annual Good Downloader Campaign aimed at curbing piracy and illegal downloads. Good luck with that, but the campaign always gets the most famous and gorgeous stars to participate and dial up the interest. This year the participants are Jung Woo Sung, Ahn Sung Ki, Ryu Seung Ryung, Lee Jung … Continue reading →
My heart, be still. There is something intangible between Lee Dong Gun and Yoon Eun Hye when they are acting together in Marry Him If You Dare that is absolutely captivating. I actually have to wait until I finish watching an episode before any flaws or awkwardness from the drama becomes clear, because when they appear onscreen all my attention … Continue reading →
Drama producer Chen Yu Shan must be smiling all the way to the bank, what with her expensively produced period C-drama King of Lan Ling breaking ratings records and being the most talked about C-drama of the Summer in both China and Taiwan. It’s a frothy shoujo manga in the guise of a pseudo-historical take on the famed King of … Continue reading →
The drama gods must be playing a practical joke on me or else there is a conspiracy to get me to like Yoona. It might still happen, but all I know is that I’m checking out Prime Minister and I come hell or high water. First of all, the drama title has reportedly changed to Prime Minister In Love, but … Continue reading →
The ratings for Marry Him If You Dare have been a huge disappointment with this drama and not necessarily warranted due to its quality (or lack thereof), but ultimately rather explainable. The rom-com genre has been by and large a crap shoot, with most garnering low ratings and few that really spark with the viewers. Conversely a sageuk usually has … Continue reading →
The popular TW-drama Just You (Just Want to Make You Fall In Love with Me) wrapped filming last week and held its wrap party on the 16th to celebrate. This one definitely deserves the celebratory mood, with the ratings on a steady upward climb since its premiere and was the nightly leader on the normal slow Friday time slot. I … Continue reading →
There are too many characters in this drama and not enough time for all of them, so in episode 5 of Heirs/The Inheritors all of that filler material involving less important (and meaningful) story lines really begins to bog down the narrative. As previews indicated and everyone wished for, the main cast finally got back to being high school students … Continue reading →
I have good and not so good news about the upcoming MBC sageuk Empress Ki. The good news is that the first posters are out featuring leading lady Ha Ji Won as the titular Empress and she looks glorious. There is glamour and splendor in these posters, something that has been missing from MBC promotion material for its last sageuks … Continue reading →
