I think there is some cosmic drama in-joke somewhere that has resulted in me recapping Oguri Shun’s Rich Man, Poor Woman around the same time Korea’s remake of Hana Kimi is about to premiere. What will original J-flavor Sano Izumi think about his hoobae Min Ho trying on the high jumping champion facing a career bottleneck? I know what I … Continue reading →
I’ve been trying to wrap my mind around the huge chasm between those who love Big and those who hate it. Not that like or dislike could be validated either way, but perhaps one huge reason for why that exists is that Big as a visual story creates such a huge disconnect and from a production stand point certain things … Continue reading →
After seeing the first still of my precious Yoo Seung Ho in the character of the Celestial Emperor in Arang and the Magistrate, I am now sated and content to wait for the drama to arrive August 15th. Luckily there is a first peek at the Vega CF starring Yoo Seung Ho looking his patented combo of boyish and manly. … Continue reading →
I think this drama gets bonus points simply for daring to go balls-to-walls and calling a duck a duck. Instead of fancy titles for what is essentially the Cinderella story, we simply have Rich Man, Poor Woman, a story that could be summed up as “Japan does a K-drama, yo!” Korea’s attempts at remaking J-doramas have been all over the … Continue reading →
Big appears to have been a Big Disappointment for many drama viewers, but for me it’s been a Big Pleasure. I loved it, flaws and all, for the entirety of its run. Episode 1 was iffy for me on first watch, but subsequently I found it pretty much pitch perfect in setting up the entire journey of Kang Kyung Joon … Continue reading →
I’m going out on a limb here and throwing out the possibility that, despite being pack to the gill with SM Entertainment Idols, the upcoming Hana Kimi remake To the Beautiful You might actually be good. I base my conjecture on two things: (1) this first set of stills between leads Min Ho and Sulli look cute and chemistry-laden, and … Continue reading →
Raise your hand if the fantasy of Lee Min Ho wearing all-black armor showing up in front of you and carting you off like a sack of potatoes strikes your fancy? If you answered yes, then I suspect Faith will be right up your alley. I think SBS has a good chance of maintaining its Mon-Tues dominance once Faith premieres … Continue reading →
As a whole, episode 15 of Big was infuriating but for the fact that the final 10 minutes brilliantly took this story to a new level poised for an ending that would feel earned for the OTP. This was the episode for Da Ran to shine, and boy did she rise up to the challenge. But before getting there, most of … Continue reading →
I have to be candid and confess episode 15 of Big was so aggravating, that is, until the very end. Then all the aggravation was worth it. I don’t mind getting pulled through the wringer for a pay off. Seeing as we have one episode left and still issues have not been figured out or resolved, it feels like the … Continue reading →
I may loathe Secret Garden despite it starring two of my all-time fave actors as the leads, but I acknowledge how wildly popular it was all around Asia. China has been planning to do a remake for the last year, and the planning stages dragged on as the project went from a drama to a movie. Now it’s definitely happening … Continue reading →
The production of Big has pretty much been on lock down for the last week as it films the final two episodes keenly aware that even the littlest news and pictures could let the cat out of the bag as to the ending. Though seeing Gong Yoo on set isn’t confirmation as to whether he’s playing Kyung Joon or Yoon … Continue reading →
I’m sure Joo Ji Hoon fans must’ve been thrilled that he’s coming back to TV-land with his comeback weekend drama for SBS called Five Fingers. The drama released its first teaser this weekend and I was suitably impressed…….by how makjang it felt in a few short seconds. I loved the piano playing tracking shots and all the intense performing-at-Lincoln-Center vibes … Continue reading →
I keep writing and rewriting this post because I can’t decide if it’s going to be a first impressions or a recap. Who’s watching Rich Man, Poor Woman, the latest Getsuku (月９ or Monday@9) to hit our radar. Twelve minutes in, I was squarely on the fence. And then the “it” happened. The magic moment in any drama where a wavering … Continue reading →
