K-remake of Rich Man, Poor Woman Finalizes Cast of Suho, Ha Yeon Soo, Oh Chang Suk, and Kim Ye Won

Leave it up to K-ent to once again drama cast to my consternation, well maybe that’s too pessimistic but it’s to my concern for sure. The casting is set for the upcoming K-drama remake of hit J-dorama Rich Man, Poor Woman, not a recent work but still has a fond spot in my heart and relatively high name recognition among fans. The original was in 2012 and starred Oguri Shun and Ishihara Satomi, a pairing that was rather out-of-the-blue for me back then and ended up a winning from the first episode on.

It’s a modern Cinderella story set in the fast-moving IT world and posits that even a super smart and well-educated female lead needs a lucky break with an eccentric rich guy, but done in way that isn’t icky or old-fashioned. The K-drama Rich Man, Poor Woman will headline Suho of EXO and Ha Yeon Soo as the leads, with Oh Chang Suk and Kim Ye Jin confirmed to play the brother-sister set of second leads. The drama doesn’t have a network or production team announced yet but on the casting alone I’m really iffy, this one needs electric leads who spark off each other like no other and Suho and Ha Yeon Soo are both rather lukewarm in the onscreen chemistry department.

  1. Oh my, I smell a failure in the making. The Japanese version has set a bar so high yet they couldn’t even get the cast right, especially the otp.

  2. I am excited to see Suho in lenghty drama. He is my kind of handsome but i am not really feeling the actress, she gives off too childish vibes.

  3. I don’t want to be negative before the drama even starts so will be giving this a shot. I like both actors individually so don’t mind the casting.

  4. not surprise at all,but when i saw the list of actors and actresses, and the episode.
sorry i don’t think they can compare with the original.
with more episode, the story will be more complicated, hyuga in suho version can’t beat hyuga in oguri version. why they don’t choose Ryu Jun-yeol,park seo joon or at least Go Kyung-pyo,they good actor. and the chemistry?
i just want the next season from the original version (Japanese version) with same actor and actresses and same writer.

  5. I hated the original. He was such a jerk and she just took it like a dog. It was frustrating to watch her passivity and dopey attitude. I hope the new one gives the woman a backbone but unlikely.

  6. I don’t think to choose a rookie actor to be the main lead it’s a good idea. The comparison between the both actors can’t be avoided… And I’m pretty sure that Oguri Shun is better than Suho, just his screen presence and his charism are better than Suho.

It’s really a bad idea to make experimentations when it’s a remake of a very successful Jdrama.

      • Since they plan to do the remake, obviously it’s pretty popular in korea. Some of popular jdorama got adapted into k-version such as liar game etc. Even nigeru inspired ‘bcuz this is my 1st life’.

Hmm… Literally zero expectation. Lets see.

      • You’ll be surprised then.. Jdrama and Jmovie is quite popular in South Korea.
And Ogurin isnt unknown there either. He’s quite popular since his Rui’s day. He just promoted gintama in Seoul recently.
The reason why they adapted RMPW was because its popularity, not because they run out idea

  7. Hmm not a fan of the casting tbh. I loved the original and I don’t see this one working as well as that one did based on this cast.

  8. Couldn’t they do a remake like the recent Because this life is our first? Great cast, storyline, music, etc. instead it’s like they aren’t even trying.
