Angelababy and Zhang Jia Ni Officially Get Shadow Banned by C-ent as Weibo Accounts Frozen, Reportedly Same Goes for Lisa of Blackpink
So what happens outside of Mainland China is clearly still under the purview of Mainland China so a word of warning to C-stars who think abiding by domestic laws and standards in territory is all that matters. Last month Blackpink‘s Lisa did a guest show at the Parisian cabaret Crazy Horse and it was the talk of Paris with stars and the rich and powerful all clamoring for tickets. C-actresses Angelababy and Zhang Jia Ni were (un)lucky enough to attend and immediately got flack from both C-media and C-netizens for going to such a degrading show and having no respect for women. Both have tried to lay low as issuing statements only confirm they were there and also no explanation would satisfy. This week their Weibo accounts have been shadow banned from posting which is usually the start of getting frozen in C-ent. Insiders are saying the two indeed have been temporarily cancelled by C-ent for the time being but not clear if it will be lifted in the future or end up permanent. International fans are further freaking out that Lisa has been banned in C-ent as well as her Weibo (personal and official) accounts cannot be found anymore.
Oh the irony!
The Crazy Horse cabaret show is seen as degrading women… and they are, sitting on their high horse, degrading and cancelling these two women who “supposedly” attended.
You can’t make this stuff up!!
As silly as it may seem to us, it’s not exactly like the ‘rules’ in Chinese entertainment/social credit system are totally unknown.
Celebrities are held to a stricter code of conduct and expected to be role models in China due to their ability to influence the public.
I think it’s stupid that Chinese celebrities think they can take it easier or don’t abide by China’s laws when they are overseas. There’s already plenty of examples out there such as Zheng Shuang getting banned for engaging surrogacy in the US (surrogacy is illegal in China). Even South Korea also made it illegal for their citizens to gamble overseas.
I am wrong to think this is not going to happen…it is just such a stupid reason… I really feel for the 2 ladies… It is just ridiculous.
Hey yo! I made the prediction and got it! Right? I knew it was gonna happen….just the timing! RIGHT NOW is the time since the former CCP premier’s death and shake up of PLA highest ranking officials (still without anyone to fill in the position of the secretary of China defense department) really means something ! There’s unrest inside the CCP. LOL Here it is again!
I have all legit reasons to connect C-ent scandals with CCP politics !
Sorry, but stars and the rich and powerful were clamoring to see Lisa’s show?
Maybe the Asian ones. Most people in the West have no clue who any of these people are.
LOL In the West they don’t give a crap what Lisa does with her life, she’s a grown woman and making a fortune. Only China and Korea has a problem with the whole Crazy Horse issue. Those countries prefer to quietly sexualize women in a different form. Promoting innocence but behind closed doors, its a more racy story. Now that is scarier then any Crazy Horse performance.
Agreed! Good point!
Stupid comment. How do you know that the quiet sexualization of women in different forms only exists in these countries? Where is the proof? Are you one of the victims or the pursuer? what do you mean by a more racy story? prostituition?? it happens everywhere…
@vlive, Stupid commenter, of course it exists everywhere but these countries who are so innocent who promote purity “China, Korea” is far from pure. Don’t be showing me how “pure” you are when you do the exact things behind the scenes. Many of the scandals to come out of China and Korea lately are of actors doing the nasty and yet, you are shaming Lisa for what she is doing? WOW. Hey, if you are completely innocent without ANY scandal then yeah, speak up, but if you can’t even keep your own celebs in check, shut up.
@voo, where do you live? thailand? then I get your point ladyboy.
@vlive LOL Nope. No where near Thailand, good guess though. Ladyboy? Nope, all woman here. Is that all you got? 😆👏
@vlive, forgot to add, Props to ladyboys though! they living their lives as who they wanna be, not by who someone else wants them to be. Obviously Thailand gets the drift, mind your own business, they ain’t hurting anyone, just living. You should learn from that.
Not being judgemental but even before all the fallout I didn’t understand what the appeal was for Lisa to do this in the first place or why these celebrities even wanted to watch a mediocre kpop star pretend to be a burlesque dancer? She’s hardly Dita Von Teese. Doubt the performance was anything special and definitely not worth these consequences.
Exactly. She had nothing to gain from doing a burlesque show. Maybe someone advised her that she could advance into mainstream Western entertainment which was delusional. Or maybe it was just something she wanted to have fun with which I can respect.
Probably the clout attending it will bring? I mean, I personally don’t think Lisa is super special talent-wise either, but she’s extremely popular globally right now. Or they probably want to see what all the fuss is about? I don’t know, but whatever the reason is, it’s definitely not worth the backlash lol
Not trying to start a flame war or anything, genuinely curious as I’m a drama fan and not a Kpop fan – what exactly is her popularity level outside of Asia? Like she is as big as Olivia Rodrigo for example?
@Rina, Lisa is perhaps more popular and famous than Olivia Rodrigo to many internationals including me. I’ve heard about Lisa for a long while but don’t know Olivia Rodrigo.
Lisa’s probably had enough with Kpop and how judgemental the people are even when they first state they are not being judgemental. Lol
Not being judgemental but even before all the fallout I didn’t understand what the appeal was for Lisa to do this in the first place or why these celebrities even wanted to watch a mediocre kpop star pretend to be a burlesque dancer? She’s hardly Dita Von Teese.
I doubt the performance was anything special and definitely not worth these consequences.
“How dare you go to a show about women being controlled and used! Don’t you know we know better? Those women doing aren’t independent like you! We want you to do exactly as told, dammit! You’re debasing yourself not listening to what is good for you! We will now have to punish you!”
I made a mistake to suggest this 3 ladies are not really blacklisted… I am just surprised by how ridiculous this is… @Somebody, your are right and I am wrong.
Very disappointed in this…
Hahaha. Sorry for laughing cos I just found it’s so amusing. And sorry for those whoever are blacklisted and canceled for spuriously justified reasons. I wouldn’t be surprised if ppl living in the West are shocked by how AB and others are canceled. There’s something deep to discuss and debate about beneath the surface of this cancel culture in China. But I don’t have time to digress to that area since it would then take up my spare time watching good K dramas other fans recommended. LOL
China has very strict rules about this sort of thing. You all may agree or not but the Chinese agree. They have condemned this from the moment it happened.
Both these women know what the rules are and broke them thinking they are above it all as celebrities. Welcome to reality, enjoy your stay.
The Chinese agree yet their idols don’t agree? lol, I think you mean the Chinese government don’t agree.
‘Chinese people’ almost everyone in the weibo is in support of this
@Yuhyi, yeah, still not 7 billion of the other populations of the world who have better things to worry about.
@Voo, Chinese people are so self-absorbed that they don’t care about the rest of the world. It wasn’t like that but CCP has been promoting this kind of big ego and nationalist’s sentiment.
@Somebody Sounds similar to people who live in cults.
It is their rule and I admire China for being strict and sticking to their own principles. As a celebrity, they have a big influence to the youth so they must serve as a role model specially to their fans.
I’m glad that someone is finally reining in those BP girls. Practically every teenagers and even young kids knows BP, this kind of acts, also same for that HBO The Idol series, is such bad influence on the young minds.
Agree
OMG! Who just said that AB wouldn’t be cancelled not long ago? And here they are! LOL. I’m not making fun of the celebrities who got banned for spurious reasons. But I always found it’s amusing why C drama fans are so naive, not wary of possible connection between celebrities’ scandals and some political ruckus going on in China at the same time. Rumors and reported protests spread rampantly online about the unexpected death of former premier Li keqiang.
Prove me otherwise how the cancellation of the two actresses isn’t related to the political unrest in China now.
This is just the beginning for Lisa… By cutting ties with her, the brand’s pretty much saying she’s not the catch she used to be. They might not sign her again, or if they do, it’ll be for a lot less money. They teamed up with her in the first place because she was a big deal in China, which is a huge market for them. But now that she’s canceled, they might not be as keen to keep her on board. This probably gives the advantage to YG, as she is longer as bankable as she used to be.
I bet she did not see this coming.
Don’t worry, many brands are shifting to Thailand, its become a very bankable market for luxury brands. Majority of Thai celebs dominate fashion shows now. She’s always welcome in Thailand.
China is huge market, more than 15% of world population, a loss is still a loss. Not to mention the scale of their spending power
@Yuhyi a gain is a gain too. business is always changing. I doubt Lisa is affected. Her focus is no longer the Asian market.
