I didn’t watch this drama but it was definitely a big hit for this summer of 2023. I’m talking about wuxia drama Mysterious Lotus Casebook, which takes Cheng Yi out of his suffering xianxia god string of dramas and into a more subdued but still interesting period setting. He’s fielding a lot of project offers right now and also up for a contract renewal with his long time agency H&R Century Pictures which also reps Allen Ren. Insiders are saying he will not renew with H&R and is using this new leveling up of his career thanks to Mysterious Lotus Casebook to plan his next move in shaping the control of his own projects.
He will likely start his own agency and then select the dramas that interest him. I do noticed by artiste are hit with lots of uncontrollable rumours or online attacks when they leave their agency. I hope Cheng Yi will not undergo it. I remember recently we read news about him going out with rich older woman…I wonder who created that new to scare him??
Lets wait and see.

I wish him all the best in his future endeavors…I really like his acting and think he’s really charming as an actor. ‘Mysterious Lotus Casebook’ was definitely a turning point in his career, I’ve become a fan thanks to this project.

You mean the agency is sick of investing money in him so he is releasing drafts that it’s his choice? It was leaked ages ago he has one more year to do something that doesn’t include HR pushing insane amounts of money into his PR.
Instead his only upcoming drama, after months and months of nothing, is a HR production that has no financing so has already been postponed several times and should now start earliest in February. This poor thing has been running around aimlessly pretending to do readings to make it look like something is happening.
Yeah, he will leave, if HR dumps him.

He hasn’t worked for months. To add the last project that was finished hasn’t been registered even. The next project is with Huarui so internal. It was supposed to start in December then kept being postponed, now it’s February. Official explanation is no sets free in Hengdian. Nobody actually believes that, btw. Huarui’s financial report was plastered all over, they have money trouble.
The rest is interesting because it depends who you listen to. He and RJL have been fighting for ages and both are saying they will leave the agency while both are accusing the other of being dropped. But neither one has a wealth of offers. And no insider would say that.
I don’t know. The man has been in tragic roles over and over again in his tenure with HR. Now that he’s gonna leave, it makes sense to take a break. I don’t interpret that as him having no market.
The only role he could take was a HR production. And he licked so many, it was embarrassing. So where is all this wealth of amazing offers that he could only take yet another costume made by his own company? Guy can’t pronounce iQiyi properly, what serious role.

I’ve been only seeing his fans (or ysh) doing PR aggressively to overhype his popularity and status. It can’t be unseen as long as you browse Chinese SM such as Weibo from time to time. I’m indifferent to his dramas. Both RJL and he aren’t appealing to me either visually or acting-wise. I checked most of their high-profile dramas but found them bland. I don’t get why they are popular. LOL.

Cheng Yi is the female Zhao Liying. Their PR is aggressive and annoying. I don’t mind how he used to look ugly, did plastic surgery, or overuse filters on all his photos to look like a kid. His PR is just disgusting. Heard that he’s a good friend of ZLY and they will work together, what a perfect pair, only the toxic can work with the toxic. Nobody wants to work with ZLY anymore, he’s the next person nobody wants to work with.
