So this is an interesting double news article that is merely coincidental in timing rather than the two actresses made the decision together or because of each other. K-ent is reporting that Hyeri and Seo Ye Ji are signing with then agency Sublime, home to top actors Song Kang Ho and Rain, and more idol singers as well. Other than those two actors its not an acting stable but there are many stars under its label so it’s not a one-person shop either. Seo Ye Ji has been a free agent since leaving Gold Medalist two years ago while Hyeri has just entered the market after leaving Creative Group ING earlier this month in the beginnin of May. Good luck to the ladies in their new agency homes and honestly keeping a thriving career is part talent and part luck in landing the right roles so a good agency is very important for sure.
All Hyeri need to win this battle of controversy w/ the
BF & his ex is to have a hit project and stand strong on her own. It unfortunately she never got a good footing w/ the hugely successful Repy series.
Reply 1988 was not a drama that she can claim as “hers”. It was an ensemble drama that became successful not because of 1 or 2 actors but because of all the cast as a whole.
So, in essence, she still doesn’t have a hit drama where she is the main lead.
Reply 98 being an ensemble drama does not change the fact that Hyeri was the main lead in it tho… That’s like saying Jeon Mi Do is not the main lead in Hospital Playlist. But I do get your point of Hyeri not being able to fully claim Reply 98 as hers the way she could have for a 2 lead drama.
This battle of controversy already ended.
Total opposites. One was a toxic former GF of Kim Jung Hyun and the other is a beloved ex GF of the ugly actor who just broke up with a toxic new gf (ex)….
And @Rei you’re just the dumb hater that needs to go write on the merits of mayonnaise. Save your spite for your daily journal and go meditate. LOL you lost that one.
@mumma bear
Whoa …. strong words from a class I idiot. Wake up and stop being such a toxic fan. your non functioning brains and hateful emotions are worse off than your idol (s). At least they got out of the mess and all are living well now. As for you, just keep getting stuck in trolling and attacking others to spread hate.
@Rei -Can you read what you wrote first? And it’s class A not class 1 lol. Reap what you sow I’m referring to your ‘ugly as actor…toxic new gf’ comment. Ah they broke up so get with the times. Funny, trolling spreading hate -nope that’s you on loop.
@Mumma Bear – the one crusader for SYJ who spares no expense in cutting people down, body shaming people, calling people names all in the nameof protecting one of most toxuc personalities in k-entertainment. Been at it for years. Glad you are still supporting her but honestly… HEEL.
@Gwen Oh but it’s perfectly okay for anyone to just disparage SYJ anytime they want on this blog and as a fan I’m not allowed to respond? Get real. As for body shaming? When did I ask? Where have I body shamed in my comments? I mean did you equate my ‘mayonnaise’ and ‘meditate’ comments as in I was body shaming? How about you rewind back to Rei’s original comment and have the same energy there. As for your command to ‘HEEL’ I will if you bark. Finally SYJ can’t be toxic if her IG following is 780K+ and still rising now can she? Sorry about it but in case you haven’t read up: https://twitter.com/yeajiology/status/1461402323146579971
@gwen
Thanks for pointing out certain things. Didn’t realize SYJ has a rabid fan around
While I was in school, a wicked neighbour let go their Dobermann dog onto the streets. It chased me and I fell down and bled. So I went to the neighbour’s house with a stick just to protect myself. The guy came out looking very defensive and instead of apologizing, he got angry and shouted. I warned him that if he were to repeat this action, I would call the authorities.
Anyway in similar vein, this wild bear can go crazy on people and bite. Beware.
@Rei
Again, go look at your first comment.
And no I’m not a rabid fan in defending SYJ but you are when you post negativity and not expect a reaction. Nice analogy though about the doberman and a wild bear lol. Put it this way -you love to dish but can’t take and I’ll leave you with “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander” since you are on referencing the animal kingdom.
YJ left GM in November 2023 so 7 months ago. She hasn’t signed with Sublime as they are ‘still in discussion’ so who knows what will happen. K Media writing articles about it guess it must be a slow day in the office over there. If anyone is interested there is a IOTNBO Filipino version out soon.
Hyeri definitely needed an agency change. Her drama picks have been pretty abysmal after Reply 98 (not different from Ryu Jun yeol in fact). She is honestly better off accepting some solid supporting roles if she gets those offers. Bad comparison as this it is of a completely different scale here, but even AEJ and JBA are doing second leads in upcoming dramas. These are actresses who are also on a way higher scale in the acting talent department so hopefully she can follow suit and establish herself a bit more. For now she’s just a one hit wonder.
Ryu Jun Yeol is a little different case, he mostly filmed in movies after Reply. Some of them were hits in Korea, some wasn’t, but their acting careers follow different paths.
I read that Hyeri received an offer to star in GL drama. Don’t know about plot and writer, but maybe this role will help her to prove herself.
RJY has definitely done better in Chungmuro. However, his main job is being an actor while hers is being an idol. I was mainly comparing their drama choices. Dunno what GL is tbh, but hopefully she can get her acting career on track. Never thought she was a great actress but we’ve seen many idol actresses improve working with good PDs and costars so as long as she doesn’t just stick to lead roles, there is potential.
@Butterfly
GL – girl’s love drama, where main lead or leads are lesbians. But I’m still not sure that it’s GL. News articles said she received offer in GL drama, but plot based on webtoon, which didn’t had GL.
Hmm, somehow I agree, I see her more on variety shows than in dramas, she seems attractive and funny person, but not sure about her as an actress.
Second lead, some completely different genre or maybe in ensemble drama like Hospital playlist or Moving she can shine again.
I hope SYJ will come back strong on her feet. She is a talent.
Disclaimer: I’m not her fan.
I agree. I am not a fan either, but she’s very talented.
I am not a fan of SYJ and I don’t want to see her come back but I can’t deny she was a very good actress.
Even if Sublime do agree to sign her I don’t think it will resuscitate her career much – certainly not to the level it was pre-downfall. There are numerous equally as good and more popular actresses without her baggage to be cast so why should productions take a risk on someone like Son Yea Ji? I also got the impression that aside from the various accusations during her scandal she didn’t seem to be well-liked behind the scenes either and had burned bridges within the industry on her climb up the ladder. I think that will be a real problem for her aside from the negative public perception.
Sublime are only a mid-tier agency and can’t make producers cast her. She really needs a powerhouse agency like BH Entertainment who have lots of connections, money and star actors on their roster and can override controversies (see Lee Jin Wook for example) and who can also package and produce projects for their actors. Sublime really only have one big actor (Song Kang Ho) and he was a huge star long before he signed with them.
See this hater thank God, God is not man better get you crusty self away, she burned bridges that’s why she was cast in Eve, that’s why her makeup artist is still posting her haters are always going to spew forth bad thing . Please and please she is a phoenix and will emerge even greater than before. Terrible people only thinking about themselves and forget that these celebrities are humans also bett r move on it’s been over 3 years
@Sunny -only a few of the SYJ haters are left in this world and good luck with getting rid of their huge as chip sorry. If she was hated by the industry why would Sublime even think of discussing an exclusive contract with her in the first place? Furthermore, Sublime has Jackson from Got 7 and Tiffany Young from GG and now Hyeri so they’re not some mediorce mid range agency. K media were writing articles on the Sublime talks and other publications are posting about IOTNBO so your ‘burned bridges’ has no merit at all. Also, she is internationally loved by thousands and if her IG is anything to go by and her return to the screen is eagerly anticpated.
@Eve
Phoenix… 🤡🤡🤡
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Some of these comments crack. me. up. It’s so entertaining lmfao
@Sunny, did she commit any crimes? LOL. If not, then why do you wish her not make a living? Acting is her profession and she does have talent. If you don’t like her or hate her, just don’t watch her dramas or movies or anything with her in. Is it that difficult for you? Rather, you used such a strong word like “I DON’T WANT HER TO…” LOL. You sound a bit overbearing! Just let her try her ways to survive and go on living your petty life as a non fan. LOL
Yes, I think the general audience was exposed to some sort of domination kink going on between KJH and SYJ and turned her into the Devil. This was made 10x worse by poor Seohyun being the one to get stuck in the crosshairs.
I wish it became more normalized to not wish destitution on people for non criminal personal choices. This includes cheating with so many commenters carrying on like the scorned wife/husband.
Would I want to be friends with SYJ in real life? Maybe not, but I’m not angry that she’s trying for a comeback. She’s allowed to test the waters.
@Rina -Yes you are right YJ is allowed to test the waters but her fanbase are predominatley international fans and yeyes are excited for her return.
@Rina: I agree about the domination kink! From the released texts I think the real story about her relationship with KJH was that they were in a dom/sub relationship but they took their private kink role play too far when it affected his professional life and poor, unsuspecting Seohyun got caught in the middle.
@Sunny-Ah look at you being a psycho analyst from a text convo that was one sided. KJH was snapped with Seo Ji Hye and said they were not dating that he was interested in leaving his agency then all of a sudden Dispatch released the texts and that took the heat of KJH and all eyes were then on SYJ. Now the timing is suspicious and it was a personal matter but of course all the lies and allegations were made against YJ so she bore the brunt of it and suffered the most. However both KJH and SYJ apologised but that isn’t good enough for the haters on this site. I get all the for anti sentiment and fair enough but if you want to keep posting your biased as side but don’t expect me to heed and not respond. Tiffany is with Sublime; did they not take that into consideration when they were in exclusive talks with YJ and signing her? Stop using Seoyhyn in your excuse to hate on YJ just say you hate YJ outright then it’s a fair comment to make.
An agency change will be good for Hyeri as she seems to really want to be taken seriously as an actress. She is doing well as a celebrity in variety, has lots of CFs and a very successful YouTube channel but her acting career after the success of Reply ’88 has been very lacklustre. Park Bo Gum, Ryu Jun Yeol and Lee Dong Hwi all have had huge success in their acting careers post-Reply. Meanwhile, Hyeri has just had a string of forgettable and mediocre projects.
Sublime is a mid-tier agency but they may have more resources to support her than her previous small one person agency.
I do not know where my posts went but I responded to @Rei and @Gwen earlier but I’ll add again to @Rei -It’s class A not class I and you seem to forget you started the hate comment first with your attack and troll use of “ugly actor with toxic new gf’ so I responded.
@Gwen -I don’t how you arrived at body shaming from my posts. Where? Or did you assume the mayonaise and meditate quip implied that I was? Lol ah no and if anyone can disparage and name call YJ on this blog then the same allowance should be extended to her fans to disagree. What’s with the caps HEEL? I will if you reciprocate with a bark, laters.
This is exciting news!! I can’t wait to see Seo Ye-Ji make her comeback. I started watching k-Drama here in the states, during the pandemic, when Netflix brought a whole library of series to us. It’s okay to jot be okay, is till my favorite series, and I’ve watched 35 series since 2020… nothing tops that masterpiece, and she is a truly a queen. I tried to follow the supposed controversy online, and it all seems so petty. It makes me sad that she was canceled by some netizens in Korea, but rest assured, she has a ton of fans internationally, who can’t wait to see more of her!! Much love, from San Francisco <3
I really love SYJ, she is the reason I almost exclusively watch Korean dramas over any Western TV. In the last 2 years I have watched every Korean drama worth watching on Netflix, but It’s ok not to be ok is definitely my favorite with Queen of tears. This shaming of SYJ is shameful and petty and I don’t think her international fans give 2 sh*ts about it. It surprising to hear some if the comments from people on here who are likely Westerners or spent much time in the USA and they watch media with Western stars who have 10x the controversy then SYJ and not a peep about them. I guess we hold Korean actors particularly Female actresses to a higher standard than anyone else. Regardless of the peanut gallery SYJ is extremely talented and she projects an energy that can rarely be rivaled. If Korea gas rejected her she should leave because she will be warmly received in any country that matters. One day she will make the Korean fan base look like idiots because she will more rich & famous than most of her Korean counterparts. SYJ is an ambassador for Korean Drama, because of her it has gone international!
