Byun Woo Seok Lands New Endorsement as Face of Clinique Skincare in South Korea

It looks like the airport scandal impacting Byun Woo Seok will not have a fallout on his haul of new endorsements accumulated these past two months since Lovely Runner became a cult hit in May 2024. There has been no news on any of the new endorsed brands dropping him, and there is news today that he’s added Clinique Skincare as a new endorsement. The brand campaign will come out next month in August. As for the airport scandal, nothing new this week so that’s a relief and hopefully it will further die down from here on.

  2. It wasn’t a big scandal from the beginning. I didn’t hear about anyone being cancelled because of such lame thing (even if they had to apologise and got some hate train from k-netz, like LJS or JHI), so everything will be okay.

  3. It was not scandal to be begin with. But Korean news channels didn’t find anything interesting reports so they purposely used him to get viewers as these days he is hot topic. But it’s a relief the media is giving good news about him now . I wish to see him become face of every brand and next drama announcements

  4. It’s a positive sign for him to get new endorsement right after all the negative PR. This ruckus wasn’t even slightly comparable to the scale of my fave who got badly cancelled for at least one year and lost endorsements etc. I thought BWS was going on that route. But good for him for now!

  5. I find incidents like this very interesting from a sociological point of view.

-Actor gets immensely popular overnight; the crowd loves him.

    – As a consequence, he attracts the crazy ones’ attention too. Some worship the dirt he walks on, some dedicate themselves to dig up something to bring him down – all because he’s handsome and successful.

    – The moment there’s one misstep, the haters become so vocal that they create mob mentality and they are all out to get the actor, out of envy. They make so much noise that people from the outside think that it is a bigger deal than it really is.

    – Some time afterwards (in this, about ten days), the mob is tired of the story and looks for another thing they can mob about – all that is left are the original haters that try to find something else on the actor, as I expect they will do in this case too.

Mob mentality is one thing; but what mostly intrigues me are those people that constantly feel the need to take an opposite stance on anything and vehemently hate what the majority likes. I am not saying that we should all like the same things. But it is one thing saying I don’t really like X actor that so many adore, and a different thing trying with all my energy to get X actor down. What is the mystery that makes someone a hater?

    • I am interested in what your have written but I need to sit on it for a day 🤔 and think thru your points…My brain process is definitely not quick and sharp like afew members here. Aging brain…😔

    • The mob mentality mindset is very disturbing particularly how the anonymity of the internet makes it even easier for people to be hateful. You could even see the same thing even here on this site. Certain members of the mob were relishing in posting all kinds of nasty things, jumping to the worst conclusions and blaming everything on BWS but now it’s clear this is not going to destroy BWS as they had hoped and this story has turned into a back and forth between the private security company and the airport with, notably, neither company blaming BWs (or his agency) for what happened those posters are nowhere to be seen.

I will say I also was glad to see that there were a lot of reasonable posters here who didn’t immediately jump on the hate train, make negative conclusions and who defended BWS or even simply cautioned people to be kind and empathetic. Gave me some hope that there is some humanity and kindness left.

  6. This could be one of the seven CFs he already signed in late April before the airport incident. What needs to be seen is whether the new CFS he was in talks about are affected. Incheon Airport is formally suing the security company and the police are investigating. This won’t die down anytime soon, and I am afraid his name would be dragged into this scandal for a long time.

    • You could not be a more hateful person. You are trying to blame somebody for something he did not do. Please get a life!

      • I am actually rooting for him all the time and worried for his sake. Totally aghast at this witch hunt.

    • @eve: I read a Korean article from a week ago discussing how this issue could impact his new CFs. The consensus is that BWS did not do anything wrong and the blame is on the private security and, to a lesser extent, his agency for not apologising and releasing a statement more quickly but the controversy is obviously not what a company wants attached to their celebrity face. The article also said that as a result CFs he was in talks for might pause on negotiations or remove him from final candidate selection because of this issue which is sad to read as a fan but understandable.

The article wondered if his current or new CF ads would be quietly dropped or they might outsource him to APAC (Asia Pacific regions outside SK) only as overseas don’t care as much about controversies which is what happened to some other recent celebrities (I won’t name the celebrities mentioned in the article as I don’t want their fans coming after me or this turning into a debate lol).

As I said this article was from 7 days ago and since then at least 4 of his new CFS have released new promotional content including this Clinique announcement so it’s clear that his CFs have decided to stand by him which is very good news! I think it helps that the industry doesn’t consider BWS at fault for what happened and he also has an excellent professional and personal reputation to back him up.

The news cycle has also moved on. It’s frustrating his name is linked to this story but the recent updates make it clear that this is a back and forth between the private security company and INC airport only.

  7. anyway good for him! i hope he picks a good project next and moves on.

the airport situation needed to be addressed, but the hate he was getting was too much.

  8. Excellent news! He has great skin so he is an excellent choice 🙂 I hope he can keep moving forward and more good things come to him. Fighting, BWS!

Some of his other new CFs also posted promo for him this week too so it seems his CFs are sticking with him despite the tough past two weeks.
