The schedule is set for Fangs of Fortune to arrive end of this month October on iQiyi. There is already so much promo for it for months so it’s definitely director Guo Jing Ming‘s fave child for sure, with an ending song dance MV and now an opening credits song MV and also additional trailers and Weibo vids interspersed. Starring Hou Min Hao, Chen Du Ling, Tian Jia Rui, and Cheng Xiao, it’s kinda a four-some of mid for me so it’s even funnier to see all the anger and blowback brewing already over what is perceived as massive favoritism for the second male lead. Fans counted scenes from the just released song MV and in it Hou Min Hao has 37 shots, Chen Du Ling 24, Tian Jia Rui 62, and Cheng Xiao 13. Like your parents said, math is important and it’s hard to argue with cold numbers. It’s also not hard to predict this would happen as Guo Jing Ming also gave Tian Jia Rui more screen time in My Journey to You then I think his character deserved and has also spoken very openly about how Tian Jia Rui is the next big thing and that he’s getting an incredible story line in Fangs of Fortune. Let’s see if he’s worth all this hype.

Guo Jingming’s dramas are known to favor the 2nd leads more. Despite Esther and Zhang Linghe’s popularity the second couple was more popular in My Journey to You.
I found the love story for the 2CP lacking. Why did he like her when he was suspicious the whole time? Pure lust. The out of drama promotions were actually better than what was seen in drama. But because ZLH’s performance was quite weak, the 2CP was more talked about.
Esther was ok. Her character was better with younger sister, her handler, and the 2FL.
TJR had the most fun character and best portrayal of the 3 for me.
Well, fans protesting will also get him more exposure, so he is not at loss in the end, he has two dramas as ML in the next year, right?
Also Tian Jiarui is rumored to be the male lead for Guo Jingming’s upcoming drama Hua Pi so other leads of that drama better be prepared to be shafted if they still choose to star in it.
Sometimes being sidelined in a Guo Jingming drama may be preferable to leading a drama with a not very good or well-known director or script. Could be a good way to do networking and build connections.
The MV was so emotional like everyone bringing in their A+ game which is good, but I do agree that if I didn’t know that HMH was the ML then I would have thought that TJR was the ML by just looking at the MV.
Well its not like his team didnt know about the possibility that he will be used to prop another actor. Guo Jinming and Yu Zheng like to promote their stars in their production nothing new. I hope his character its interesting enough and doesnt get overshadowed like he was in Dashing Youth with He Yu. It just shows that he’s not popular enough to star in male centric and no bts shenanigans dramas.
He needs the buzz. His previous dramas did okay in views but didn’t generate much hype.
If you keep getting overshadowed, it’s no longer a “them” problem but a “you” problem. In HMH’s case, I have only seen 1 thing of his (unimpressed), but it’s not enough for me to make a judgement or say that this is the case. But if his fans keep complaining, people will start wondering who is really the problem.
I’m not a HMH fan i dont think he is an interesting actor and i normally like other characters on screen in his own dramas🤣. I just think his agency needs to be smart and choose productions that will make him look good.
Tian jia Rui to me looks odd in historical garb and I somehow wonder if he would look a little better in modern. Not sure what it is but I don’t see the buzz in him? Maybe we just need to watch his acting and see if it will make sense?
Same goes for me. He looks cute in costumes at times and pretty but thats it.
In the variety show divas hit road he was just fine nothing special…
