Youth Romance C-drama Our Generation with Zhao Jin Mai and Zhang Ling He to Premiere on July 14th on Youku
This coming week will see the arrival of Our Generation (Chinese title 樱桃琥珀 Cherry Amber) on Youku on July 14th. It was expected to air in July but the drama starring Zhao Jin Mai and Zhang Ling He will not have as broad a distribution as initially intimated. There was talk that the drama would also air terrestrially on CCTV which is always a big deal and signals quality of storytelling as approved by the government tastemakers. Alas it will not happen as CCTV aired Created in China recently to very low ratings and almost no buzz, so the network will not air another drama for now and will wait until the summer season ends. But Youku really wants to air OG this summer to recoup its investment so it’s choosing to go ahead with just a streaming premiere.
It looks like Netflix is showing this atleast in my region. Looking forward to their second collab after the Princess royals.
I still remember watching Zhang Ling He’s Flourish in Time youth drama…I enjoyed it alot.
I enjoyed Zhao Jin Mai in A Little Thing Called First Love with Lai Kuan Lin…I enjoyed that drama too.
I am looking forward to this partnership.
I have already started to follow the drama. ZJM sorta changed my perception about her with just a few eps up. I almost blacklisted her. lol
I have to admit I was checking this drama just to see how ZLH would fare. I’m very fond of his debut, Maiden Holmes, but nothing afterwards.
ZJM and ZLH have good chemistry in Our Generation…by far. Their interaction looks miles better than ZJM and Wu Lei in Amidst a Snowstorm of Love, and also more natural than ZLH and Xu in The Best Thing.
I’m more surprised you didn’t want to blacklist ZLH considering ZJM acts better than he does lol. But I guess your soft spot for him because of MH is pretty intense. I just can’t, I lose appreciation for those who are one-time flukes.
Zhao Jin Mai, I feel is one of the few actress that can make male actors comfortable around her. They can then relax and open up when acting with her .
Zhang Ling He is one that needs to act with actress he is comfortable with. He is not a natural actor.
One of the actor who have since retired from acting is Lai Kuan-lin, he is a very particular actor too. He too was good with Zhao Jin Mai.
Just my personal opinion. I dont entertain fan wars…
@20MIN, I’m a visual freak. I usually cut slack and give plenty of opportunities to nice looking guys on screen (of course must be to my liking). I’m shallow LOL. ZLH has been always serviceable but improving.
I don’t think CCTV will broadcast a drama that’s about youth romance, too much of a far cry from its audience’s preferences. I will give this drama a try though, as I like Zhao Jinmai very much.

Zhang Ling He caught my eye in Maiden Holmes. However, since then I have not seen any noticeable progress in his performance.
I watch it on Viki and after currently 4 episodes available – it is gooood! Acting and storytelling at the moment 10/10. Gives you all the feels from the start. If they can keep it up until the last episode it will be one of the best Cdramas out there.
Typical school romance. But really, after being an adult in previous series, it’s hard to see ZLH as a student. Lol.
He looks skinnier for this role, but seriously, he looks old for being a 16/17 y.o boy.
They do have a good chemistry. Kinda like the supporting cast too.
Me too, at least he did something to improve the lines on his face, he looks much better when he smiles now. Being skinny matches this role well as he’s playing a student.
Have you read the novel? Im curious if they’ll have any love line after being adults?
@Yui Nope I didn’t. I’m halfway through episode 2 now. Paused midway because I had to attend to something irl. So far, the bulk of episode 1 was about their childhood and I’m currently at the part where FL travelled to the city to look for her friends and ML. The sets look good, I like the rustic vibes and the plot does pique my interest so far. I generally prefer not to know the original story so that I can enjoy the drama. But it’s a pity that the signs of the drama episodes being cut down are rather obvious.
