Call it timing or just twice is not the charm, currently airing period C-drama Tigers Sniff the Rose with Meng Zi Yi and Li Yun Rui is probably getting more coverage for how it’s not doing well than anything else. The story of a bossy princess and a beta-male scholar doesn’t appeal to me and on top of that I’m … Continue reading →
Looks like C-actress Song Zu Er is getting ahead of the curve in terms of the impending change in C-ent regulations about use of stage names. She will be reverting to her birth name Sun Fan Qing going forward, it’s been a rumor for a few months now, but with promos this week for her upcoming Tencent dramas Wish You … Continue reading →
In the era of belt tightening with drama budgets, it’s so nice to see actual money translated into visual sumptuousness onscreen. Upcoming Tencent big budget wuxia C-drama The One (剑来 Jian Lai or Sword Comes) released its first official trailer this week and has been the talk of the town. Wu Lei anchors the story as an orphan who embarks … Continue reading →
Well, those who felt it was unfair that most of the success for Pursuit of Jade seemed to go to male lead Zhang Ling He will be happy that this month has been great to female lead Tian Xi Wei. Her current drama Where the Mask Ends is a hit and garnered her strong praise in her acting of the … Continue reading →
I think it’s safe to call this a win for C-actress Tian Xi Wei, the second for her this year. Period revenge drama Where the Mask Ends is now 2/3rds of the way through its airing run and remains the most popular drama currently streaming doing better than The Lament of Autumn and newly premiered Tigers Sniff the Rose. It … Continue reading →
The drama gods giveth and the drama gods may get it taketh away. This weekend’s airing of SBS medical drama Doctor X: Mafia in White continued the rising ratings trend for the series with episode 6 hitting a new high of 19.5%. But that same high viewership also means more people watched it and saw that the episode contained a … Continue reading →
Lol, this is so petty, but has been happening the opposite direction it’s rather apropos to see it happen now the other way. C-actor Zhang Ling He was reportedly planning a fan meeting in Taiwan as he continues to ride the high of his hit C-drama Pursuit of Jade but for now it is not going to take place. His … Continue reading →
Awwww, this is one of my fave medical J-doramas and the final casting announcement this week just feels like half the wind got sucked out of it. The K-drama adaptation of Unnatural has confirmed that Yoona and Lee Jin Wook will be the leads, with the drama aiming for an early 2027 release. The female lead doctor is such a … Continue reading →
It’s clear that The Lament of Autumn is doing well enough if Xu Ruo Han is immediately getting a new script sent her away. I’m actually enjoying TLoA for being the stupid as bricks romance novel level popcorn entertainment it is and find Xu Ruo Han’s bunny teeth either less annoying or I’ve simply gotten used to it because she’s … Continue reading →
The news that a big production company is planning a big S+ budget drama will clearly send the eligible actresses into a tizzy trying to land the lead role. The track record has been good with New Classics Media (新丽传媒 Xin Li) which most recently co-produced The Story of Rose with Liu Yi Fei and also has mega hits like … Continue reading →
So far 2026 has yielded three C-dramas hits so to speak, starting with Pursuit of Jade then The Early Spring right into Against the Current. We may have another one as When the Mask Ends with Tian Xi Wei is so far off to a good enough start, but more importantly momentum trending in the right direction. If AtC was … Continue reading →
Week two is always the best marker of whether a K-drama’s hot start will continue on the right trajectory and luckily for SBS weekend medical drama Doctor X: Mafia in White it’s definitely got real momentum. The drama starring Kim Ji Won as the titular rule challenging genius surgeon kept going on in ratings the second week of airing hitting … Continue reading →
Looks like October will end with a splash in C-drama land with Tencent announcing that it will premiere big budget period drama Tigers Sniff the Rose (尚公主 Shang Gong Ju) this Friday October 23rd.
