Miss Rose Episode 9 Recap — 32 Comments

  1. I explicably lost interest in this drama 3 episodes ago. Both the leads look too old and haggard to act the way they are doing ( cutesy and dumb)
I never thought I would stop liking Roy but he looks exhausted and leading lady is beginning to seem retarded.

      • I wonder if it has something to do with her big built. If it had been a petite delicate girl like Amber Kuo or Ivy Chen……..It seems harder for big mature looking girls to be cute and weepy…..

  2. I love this drama and megan lai’s acting. but can i know the rating for this ep? Is the rating keep decreasing? Because the last time it broke 5. And now it is in the 3s?

  3. Frankly my heart ache for Yi Chun because we all know that though he is genuinely sorry for his mistake, he has lost his chance. I really like the way the actor potray this character. I find myself feeling so sorry for him yet a mistake is a mistake & in the end, he has to live with the choices he made in the first place. Kudos to the actor:) And thank you Ms Koala for your hard work & comments:)

    • Agree. I am beginning to like him more than perpetually scowling Roy. Both Roy and Megan have been just going through the motions these last few episodes. I am not feeling it.

      • same here- yes, he made a mistake and he’ll probably regret it forever. but at least he had the guts to go back to her and try to win her back! i personally feel that he had more chemistry with megan than roy in this episode. idk which side i’m on now…

  4. Yi Chun is an ass but unfortunately %&*#I was stuck subbing his confession instead of fast forwarding. So have to say he sounded pretty sincere.I would take this type of angst over a bitchy mother in law plot point. So yeah will accept it.But then Cheng Kuan better redeem himself by romancing the heck out of her when the time comes. It’s got to be more than roses and champagne.

  5. Woot! What a nice surprise to find and read your recap during my sleep break! Thank you Mrs Koala.

Gah. That scene on the bridge. I wonder whose sorrow was the worst there for our 3 chars and my money is on CK’s. I was surprised to hear Yi Chun’s admission that he had been in so much pain over his loss of her. Dunno why: maybe im dramas we are more used to getting it from the female than the male?
I felt that Yi Chun’s whole confession also served another purpose: how could he not picture himself in Yi Chun’s shoes? YC could not forget about his love for 6 long years!! Now that should influence CK hopefully not in a long run although we still have approx 12 eps to go, especially since Vivian does not love him, unlike Yi Chun’s former general manager’s daughter – though she too was bossying him around.
I too pretty much think that SY will give YC a chance: why shouldn’t she? Plus she is well-aware that GCK is off the market. Watching him struggle with his jealousy, emotions as he witnesses their dating will be angsty. Plus Vivian is going to plot against SY who now has YC on her side although he might be powerless versus spoiled princess.

Ting Ai looks so much better in her disguise. Am not sure what they did to her make-up or hairstyle but kudos cos it fits her much more than her flat current one. There should be more of her bitchy attitude next week and once again trust will be the big issue.

I was expecting more from Zi Yi towards her parents after telling them of the concealed postcards/mails. I get their reasons and anger towards Yi Chun but how are they going to react esp Mom when she finds out that Kuan Kuan has a gf? It’ll be like history repeating itself.

I do not think that MR will reach OG’s highs due to the awkwardness of Megan and Roy around each other. Unless they do manage to work past that and deliver a sizzling chemistry. So far their physical interactions from their kiss to their tango were unconvincing.

Funny how the political aspect in CH was so interesting to follow whereas I keep forwarding the scenes in MR.

From a cultural pov, the beach scenes showed me sth interesting: other than Tia’s scar on her left arm, i noticed that “Tom” has a tattoo (of a woman’s face) on his right arm while “Yi Chun” ‘s on his left arm. Tattoos are no big deal in my country but a big one in 2 Asian countries I had been familiar with – Korea and Japan. Thus should I draw the conclusion that it’s no biggie either in Taiwan?

  6. hello unnie koala~!!!!
i really liked this episode, i think that Chen Kuan acted well by allowing the two love birds to know what kept them apart, and then from there, Si Yi, will have a clearer mind to decide on what she wants to do, and whom she wants to be with, without having to deal with the issue after, when Si Yi and him are already deep in a relationship, i really liked this episode a lot, and seems that your wish is going to come true, we are going to have a double BFF’s weeding!!!! hoo hoo!!!!!! Thanks for your quick recap!!! i was waiting for it before going to work!!!!

  7. I agree that Si Yi needs to thoroughly work through her feelings before she can really give her heart to Cheng Kuan, and I actually really love that he’s the one giving her an opportunity to know the truth. Even if it breaks my heart.

Speaking of knowing the truth, I really hate that Xiao Ke is still in the dark about Ah Zhe’s infidelity. I just want Si Yi to tell her, no matter how much it may hurt her, because she deserves to make an informed decision. And maybe fight a little for her man before realizing how much of a jerk he is and being comforted by Sheng Jun, her obvious match.

Also, I loved the whole scene where Sheng Jun and Si Qi’s husband taunted each other. “What, you still have to use a comb?” “What, you think you’re all that? Do you have a sexy woman? ‘Cuz I sure do, even if I’m mostly bald.” Hahahaha! So hilarious!

  8. Thanks for the recap!

“I don’t mind that she dates him again because she’s never going to fully get over him unless she gives it another go and realizes that she really has moved beyond him.”

How about we make montage those dates and boil it down to 5 mins of screen time, with the last 20 seconds be SY saying clearly with CK overhearing, “I thought we could go back but now I love CK so much more than you and I am now going yo walk away arm and arm with him. By the way, Vivian wants to marry an ambitious man. Why don’t YOU sidle up to her and take the pressure off CK for me?”

CK gets major hero points for his giving the letters back, and stopping Ting “Glen Close” Ai from presenting a boiled rabbit for an engagement present. As CK is technically the boss of her, I think he needs to get her in touch with the company’s Employee Counseling Expert. She’s nuts.

Agree, we need to move on with the cute OTP being touchy feeley, or at least volunteering back at the orphanage.
    You gotta sobbin’ now, SY.

[Scuttling back to Office Girls now]

    • Ya know, I think he is more self-centered than he will admit.

OK – he gets points for continuing the letters despite no reply.
But HE didn’t need to worry about how she was doing, and SHE should not have had to keep thinking he was married the last four or five years.

Letters for apologies work great in Austen novels, but we have this handy dandy thing called telecommunications. He knows her work phone, her parents’ phone, her friends’, too.
“Can you please let her know I am worried about her? I did break up with that girl I crushed her heart with, too, if you could mention that.”

And, did the contract he had signed for six years forbid him from ever flying home for visits? If the separation weren’t a good plot device, I would accuse him of being a soulless coward.

      • Didn’t he say that he asked his friends for her email but they treated him like poisonous? Speaking of work she did not stay in the previous workplace, did she? Moreover making phone calls would have been shameful and inappropriate on his part.

He is not soulless nor a scumbag although he treated her vey poorly – euphemism here. He weighed his options and realized quickly that his choice of a career over love at age 25 was not the best for him.
He could have moved on during the past 5 years and settle with another woman but his broken relationship and a desperate hope was what

He could have moved on during the past 5 years and settle with another woman but his broken relationship and a desperate hope was what kept him determined to go back to Taiwan and start again for good. It would have been irresponsible of him to go see Si Yi on vacay and then tell her that he would have to go back to the Usa. He was in no position to ask her to wait for him unless he was willing to stay there for good.
I find his attitude to be rather dignified instead. Unlike CK he is straightforward about his feelings and plans. I feel for him.

      • Whoops sorry. I mistakenly pressed the “comment” button below before completing my thoughts on the matter.

      • @Denali
I am saying he is NOT a soulless coward, (and I never said scumbag!) I am saying it is an obvious plot device to have unread letters in this day and age. It is stretching it a little to think that would be the only way he could get news to her.
He very well could have contacted her in person. She would not have turned him away, despite being broken hearted, it appears she had not forgotten him. I have to disagree it would have been shameful or inappropriate. What is the difference if he is talking to her NOW vs years ago? It if was shameful or inappropriate THEN, then it would be now, too.

And he didn’t have to go see her and tell her to wait for him. Just go see her and apologize, as he has been doing.

  9. I am surprised by SY’s discomfort to be seen in a bikini. I thought Taiwan was an island where people hung around beaches a lot. I have always goten a laid back vibe from TW dramas unlike the uptight Kdramas.

    • But in terms of SY’s character, the discomfort with bikini is appropriate rather an a blanket cultural thing.

Hmm am I the only one that really enjoys Roy and Megan’s chemistry? Their looks and stares at each other really deliver for me. I agree that the kiss was awkward in the early episode, but wasn’t that kiss supposed to be awkward? But I say we need more kisses to determine that xP

I found myself thinking back to My Queen a lot too. That triangle was really hard to choose for me. I loved both James and Ethan’s characters. Wu Shuang was so lucky!

Back to MR, all the pieces are in place for the angst. Can’t wait till we get to that!

      • I find that Megan and Roy do get along well and express emotional chemistry well but I am a bit doubtful about the physical-lovey/dovey part. I wish nothing more than for this pairing to prove me wrong. 🙂

  10. I found the “Si Yi is self-conscious about her body” scene absolutely hilarious, since Megan Lai started off as a very sexy model.

Megan has starred with my Zai Zai twice (plus now starring opposite Roy, making her THE actress who I want to live her life the most) and I’ve always had a soft spot for her. In both those dramas, I liked her WAY WAY WAY more than either of the two female leads, that being Patty Zhou in Sweet Relationship and Da S in Mars. But because of those two girls I never finished either drama, so getting to enjoy her here in MR is such a long overdue treat.

      • I totally forgot about Silence. Avoided that one because of Park Eun Hye. But damn girlfriend! 3 times with Zai Zai! o___O To say I am jealous is the understatement of the century.

  11. I think that Megan Lai should get her teeth fixed. She seems so self-conscious when she smiles. We’re at the half-way point, the angst is expected in ep 9. I hope there are more flirty and happy times ahead for the OTP.

  12. ms. koala, feeling all nostalgic with all the OG banners. I miss our OG OTP. MR is filling the gap but i still need my OG fix every now and then. thanks for posting those banners, they help. 🙂
