For a 2018 prolific K-drama year with plenty of actor breakouts including Jang Ki Young and Woo Do Hwan, I’m giving my favorite and most memorable breakout actor to veteran musical, drama, and film supporting actor Jang Seung Jo. After his banner three-drama turn in 2018 the man is due for his upgrade to leading status. What’s incredible is that … Continue reading →
I’m legit flummoxed and frustrated with tvN Sat-Sun drama Memories of Alhambra, and those are not the f-words I wanted to feel towards this highly anticipated drama. Five episodes in the directing is way wonky, some scenes are dragged out unnecessarily and the pace is off with how events are being revealed and character interactions used. Episode 5 saw more … Continue reading →
The cast of tvN period drama Mr. Sunshine continue to win accolades and this time the two leads top the just released Gallup poll of Korean audiences’ favorite K-drama stars. Lee Byung Hun came in first followed by his costar Kim Tae Ri, proving that Mr. Sunshine left a strong impression on top of the successful ratings. Third was 2018 … Continue reading →
I love hearing about the successes of the up-and-coming and this latest worthwhile effort also yielded a reportedly very cute and watchable K-drama. MBC drama Terius Behind Me was billed as a spy thriller conspiracy and turned out to be a heartwarming and rather comedic family drama. While male lead So Ji Sub has a long body of work and … Continue reading →
Talk about doubling down on two of the fasting rising K-actors in 2018 for a challenging project for both. Yang Se Jong and Woo Do Hwan have been offered the male lead roles in upcoming jTBC early 2019 sageuk drama titled My Country. They play best friends turned enemies by their status and opportunities in life, and form a friendship … Continue reading →
I’m sure this post will generate the usual Suzy is going to ruin the drama commentary and honestly it’s 50/50 that’s going to happen. In the meantime she’ll look very pretty onscreen even if she’s not emoting or emoting in the wrong way lol. The girl is here to stay in drama land and there is nothing arm chair casting … Continue reading →
I was just writing about K-actress Jung So Min, after her appearance at the Japan leg of the 2018 MAMA, about doing a next project with host and K-actor Park Bo Gum because I think they would be fantastic onscreen together. That wish will have to wait because Jung So Min is confirmed for a a sageuk romantic movie as … Continue reading →
Watching tvN Wed-Thurs drama Encounter (Boyfriend) actually makes my heart hurt, in good ways of course but there is genuine palpitations and constrictions elicited by the softest of gestures and emotions. This isn’t a drama of action, totally the opposite of Song Hye Kyo‘s last blockbuster Descendants of the Sun, and her chemistry with Park Bo Gum as as good … Continue reading →
Inclement weather did not stop the famous Korean actors and actresses slated to attend the 2010 final leg of MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) to be held in Hong Kong. Song Joong Ki is the most prominent face as the host and also the top billing Hallyu star in the fold. He’s hosted before and actually is quite adept at … Continue reading →
With the close of 2018 looming the polls are starting to reference the entire year and Gallup just released the most popular film actors as voted by the South Korean audiences for the year. Topping the list is everyone’s favorite tough guy Ma Dong Seok in first place, followed by perennial top film actor Ha Jung Woo with Lee Byung … Continue reading →
Episode 5 of tvN Wed-Thurs drama Encounter (Boyfriend) dropped in ratings down to 8.513%, which totally makes sense for me! Honestly I want this drama to drop in ratings so that it stops getting scrutinized as a success or failure and diehards like me can just savor the beautifully written and directed throwback perfection. Not much happened in episode 5 … Continue reading →
I’m not a K-pop fan so my interest in the year end MAMA ceremonies extends only to hosts or guest attendees/presenters who are Korean actors and actresses I love. The Japan leg of the 2018 MAMA was hosted by cutie bae Park Bo Gum with a beautiful presenter attendance by Jung So Min. This totally makes me clamor for a … Continue reading →
The prime time dramas are jumping into the supernatural realm that cable dramas have done so well in recent years, the horror/possession/creepy dramas that when done well are so gripping. MBC is teeing up for Mon-Tues in early 2019 the supernatural investigative drama Item starring Joo Ji Hoon and Jin Se Yeon with the screenwriter of Save Me and the … Continue reading →
