Two bigwigs are working together soon, with box office champ Hwang Jung Min already confirmed talks are ongoing with Hyun Bin to make this pairing happen. The movie in question is a political thriller called Bargaining, not to be confused with Binnie’s last movie The Negotiation despite the similar titles. He was the antagonist in The Negotiation but in Bargaining … Continue reading →
K-actor Song Joong Ki has a new sidekick for the upcoming K-movie Bogota and it’s none other than Jo Hyun Chul who has been doing memorable turns in small and now medium supporting roles in tvN dramas. He was the programmer in Memories of Alhambra supporting Binnie from the command center in Seoul and presently the patient and kind hyung … Continue reading →
When I say the movie title Soul Mate it sounds so generic and I’m not sure if many readers know which movie I am referring to. The original Chinese language title is so much more intimate Qi Yue Yu An Sheng (七月与安生), referring to the names of the two girls turned women of this movie. It’s a movie about two … Continue reading →
I really like Kim Go Eun and Jung Hae In but feel like both are always at the knife’s edge of K-netizen commentary. If they do well it’s taken as a given but one wrong step in acting, role, or behavior and each are excoriated. I wish K-netizens stopped eating their talented young and nurture them to walk the long … Continue reading →
Zombie thriller flick Train to Busan was the highest grossing Korean movie at the box office in 2016 and for good reason. I’ve watched it multiple times and it’s still thrilling, a movie that builds the tension and keeps your attention by caring about the characters. A sequel has been in discussion which makes sense from a box office perspective … Continue reading →
This looks like a sweet harmless movie if I ever saw one and funnily enough stars two stars that K-netizens are prickly towards. Jung Hae In and Kim Go Eun put on their late ’90s gear to star in the K-movie Tune in for Love (Yoo Yeol’s Music Album) set during the IMF crisis where two people share love stories … Continue reading →
A week after dropping bombshell divorce news to rock K-ent, it’s business as usual for actor Song Joong Ki as he balances the small and big screen careers. His currently airing sageuk Arthdal Chronicles will finish the second season soon, with a break in between with another drama before airing the third and final segment in August. Filming is all … Continue reading →
Movies may be K-actress Suzy‘s next stop and she’s got one success and one failure in that medium. She hit it big as the younger role for Architecture 101 but flopped hard when she headlined the sageuk The Sound of a Flower. Today came reports that she’s been offered the female lead in Late Autumn director Kim Tae Yong‘s next … Continue reading →
This is a real work of art and coming 18 years after the original just makes it even more special. The theatrical release of the 2001 animated movie Spirited Away finally arrives in China next week as none of the famed animator Hayao Miyazaki‘s works have aired on the big screen in China until My Neighbor Totoro last December. Miyazaki … Continue reading →
Wow, what an supreme honor for talented director Bong Joon Ho for himself and to bring to South Korea. His latest movie Parasite premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival last week to a 7-minute long standing ovation and rapturous early reviews. All that praise for the family and class-warfare subversive thriller movie starring Song Kang Ho, Choi Woo Shik, … Continue reading →
After the first wave of East Asian stars walked the Cannes Film Festival opening night red carpet, what follows are actors and actresses there for the premiere of their films on scheduled nights. This weekend saw C-actor Hu Ge walk the red carpet with his movie female leads Gwei Lun Mei and Wan Qian for the noir thriller C-movie The … Continue reading →
There’s a cute sounding K-movie coming out this June called Homme Fatale (English title) with the Korean title being Gibang Bachelor. The titular homme fatale is played by Junho who is now a full blown actor after successfully transitioning over from his 2PM boy band days. He’s partnered with Jung So Min in this movie, her first sageuk role while … Continue reading →
I’m a little surprised to hear that singer-actress IU has never been on the big screen before. She’s been in the industry for nearly ten years and I totally thought she would have done a movie by now, if not as the lead then as a supporting role like she did working her way up in dramas. Turns out she’s … Continue reading →
