Monday sees the premiere of a new sitcom about town, not that most people would care since the Korean sitcoms occupy a lesser plane of consciousness since subtitles are rarely available for it. I’m actually quite intrigued by the upcoming Potato Star 2013QR3, which has an even more unwieldy earlier title of Sweet Potato-shaped Potato Star 2013QR3. It’s got a … Continue reading →
The wait was definitely worth it, but there being no reason for the lag in releasing the first official stills of leading man Lee Dong Gun in Marry Him If You Dare still baffles me. Oh wells, I’ll not look a gift horse in the mouth so thank you KBS! Lee Dong Gun plays Kim Shin, a news anchor/announcer who … Continue reading →
The front runner for worst K-drama of the year wrapped up today in I Summon You, Gold. For 50 episodes this sucker was like a surreal trainwreck of epic proportions, easily out-classing other wacky or pointless recent weekend dramas such as The Best Lee Soon Shin or Hundred Year Inheritance, or painful and unpalatable currently airing ones like Goddess of … Continue reading →
You have no idea how happy and relieved I am to come across Jung Kyung Ho news. The last I heard of him, Cruel City (Heartless City) was ending in a torrent of tears while leading man Jung Kyung Ho was off to recover and rehab from a serious back injury sustained towards the latter part of the grueling filming … Continue reading →
This is the best news happening because of the worst possible reason. Goddess of Fire isn’t just a terrible beyond all belief drama, the entire production might cursed from the get go. Yesterday there was a slew of news articles about leading lady Moon Geun Young being injured on the set when a heavy piece of equipment fell on her … Continue reading →
FINALLY! I know it’s way too early to be talking about the year-end SBS drama Man From the Stars, what with its predecessor drama Heirs or The Inheritors not even premiering yet. But the too brief initial synopsis about an alien who has lived four hundred years in Korea and falls for a top actress in modern times just isn’t … Continue reading →
While the upcoming time-travel romance and life choices K-drama Marry Him If You Dare (Mirae’s Choice) has released the first official stills for Yoon Eun Hye, Jung Yong Hwa, and Han Chae Ah, leading man Lee Dong Gun has been conspicuously missing. The fact that he’s been away from the entertainment world for five long years makes me even more … Continue reading →
It’s with great sadness that I report that Goddess of Fire isn’t done airing yet. Even worse is that a wormhole hasn’t appeared in the dramaverse to consume the very existence of this horrid hell mess. This sucker is scheduled to go for 32-episodes, which if you ask me is 32-episodes too long. This story is genuinely sageuk for idiots, … Continue reading →
Overall I’m really pleased with the cast of Marry Him If You Dare (Mirae’s Choice). If I can pleasantly endure Taecyeon in Who Are You, there ain’t nothing Jung Yong Hwa can do to annoy me that much in MHIYD (if he sucks, and he can totally surprise me and not suck so I’ll wait and see). The reason is … Continue reading →
I’m still keeping up with the Friday TW-drama Just You (Just Want to Make You Fall in Love With Me), though the drama is trying its darndest to make me quit. There is absolutely no plot to speak of other than the central conceit – love-burned OCD boss Qi Yi institutes a no workplace dating policy that rubs the employees … Continue reading →
Where I’m from, the brand Gap in no way ever brings to mind edgy fashion or sexy style. It’s the place for basics from t-shirts to jeans to khakis. It might have some peppy commercials or fun print campaigns, but its nowhere near the CK penchant for “Me and My Calvins” raunchy association or even the 90s junkie basement Kate … Continue reading →
KBS did a smart move by giving its upcoming revenge melodrama Secret a two week breather. The Blade and Petal ended two weeks ago but the network aired a short mini-drama instead. I’ve heard about this project for a long time so it wasn’t for the lack of planning but somehow the cast got locked down really late. With lead … Continue reading →
I think the craving for instant gratification proliferates in dramaland more and more, so the screenwriters are trading off telling a complete story for a slew of gotcha moments interspersed with filler material in between. It’s telling that an increasing number of dramas don’t withstand the test of time beyond looking outdated, the storyline just doesn’t stand up to rewatch. … Continue reading →
