2019 was a good year for the Korean box office, with a new movie sitting pretty at the number 2 spot for highest box office of all time list with Extreme Job. We also had two other movies crack the top 25 in Parasite and Exit, and all three movies had strong female roles. The disaster escape movie Exit gave … Continue reading →
This has been a busy week for the cast of upcoming disaster K-movie Ashfall (Mount Baekdu). It’s the first time Ha Jung Woo and Lee Byung Hun, top movie stars usually headlining their own movies, are working together and they are joined by actresses Suzy and Jeon Hye Jin as well as Ma Dong Seok in a supporting role. It’s … Continue reading →
This very bad no good 2019 is finally coming to a close, three more weeks thank god. Google released it’s annual search rankings on its popular search engine and the news that South Koreans searched for in their country was mostly bad. The first entertainer to get on the top 10 search words among all categories was second place Jung … Continue reading →
There’s two good news bundled into one announcement. K-actor Lee Joon will be discharged from the military and he’s still dating former costar Jung So Min. Woo hoo, the cuties didn’t fall victim to the dreaded army service breakup. Lee Joon’s first foray back to his entertainment career will be using his voice – he’s taking over as radio show … Continue reading →
Yet another star is making the agency move and coincidentally in the same week it’s the two costars from Arthdal Chronicles. Following the news of Song Joong Ki not renewing his contract with Blossom Entertainment, his Arthdal leading lady Kim Ji Won will also not renew her expiring contract with her own agency King Kong by Starship. A fresh start … Continue reading →
Wow, well everyone was watching how tvN weekend drama Crash Landing With You would get in ratings due to its high profile leads, the week just started off with a true unicorn that is primed to fly higher. jTBC Mon-Tues new arrival Diary of a Prosecutor premiered on Monday to 5.042% ratings, the highest ever first episode ratings for the … Continue reading →
Well this is quite big news due to the actor in question. Song Joong Ki will reportedly not renew his expiring contract with Blossom Entertainment at month end and will be leaving his long time agency. No word on whether he’s joining another agency or setting up his own agency, I’d give it a toss up on which avenue he … Continue reading →
That this drama can get high ratings (for cable) despite the very problematic North Korean setting (during the current political climate) is a testament to the star power of Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin as well as the public’s appetite for a traditional Hallyu romance. The second episode of Crash Landing on You rose in ratings to 6.845%, and … Continue reading →
I still can’t grasp the untimely death of Taiwanese-Canadian actor and model Godfrey Gao. Unlike the recent spate of suicides in K-ent, this one was entirely preventable as Godfrey collapsed of a massive heart attack on the set of a C-variety show that was all about a grueling competitive chase through the city at night. I’ll let the netizens and … Continue reading →
And they’re off the races, or at least racing towards zero whatever that means in the drama. Script reading pictures have been released for early January 2020 MBC drama The Game: Towards Zero, starring Taecyeon, Lee Yeon Hee, and Im Joo Hwan. Seeing the two leads together made me realize that I actually forgot that Taec and Lee Yeon Hee … Continue reading →
So the verdict is in and episode 1 of Crash Landing on You got a very respectful start with 6.074% AGB ratings nationwide. Less certain is whether the ratings will hold, or even better yet increase, because the drama is how shall I put it…..likely to be polarizing to modern viewers. I guarantee this drama will be straight up love … Continue reading →
Apologies for the delayed post on jTBC drama Chocolate, a combination of my own impressions not yet fully formed until this week’s episodes 5-6 and also due to work travel. This is simply one sloooooooooow burn drama, and takes a long long time to really get going. Imagine a vintage vehicle that doesn’t show it’s incredible depth until you’ve left … Continue reading →
I really a bipolar reaction to recently concluded successful in ratings KBS drama When the Camellia Blooms. Maybe a rewatch in one go will help me fully love it like many viewers seemed to with the drama finally bringing back higher ratings to the prime time slot. Leading lady Gong Hyo Jin was one-half the recipe, male lead Kang Ha … Continue reading →
