Upcoming SBS Wed-Thurs drama Yongpalyi just firmed up the casting and production details, and then promptly went from intriguing to likely miss for me. I’m not rendering an early judgment on the drama’s potential quality or lack thereof, just that it ends up with certain elements that turn me off. The first is the PD switch from the Lee Dong … Continue reading →
It’s been a busy month for the production of Scholar Who Walks the Night, going from full speed filming to losing both leads one after another to temporary injury. Things are back on track and the production has been steadily releasing drama stills to stir up interest. My interest is piqued for sure by the better than expected stills but … Continue reading →
I haven’t started watching Kim Bum‘s new tvN drama Hidden Identity, electing to wait for more episodes to drop before starting a marathon watch since that’s normally how I prefer to watch noir-ish thriller shows. The drama premiered last week to fantastic ratings for a cable show, as well as positive reviews for Kim Bum in a dark adult role … Continue reading →
It’s yet early to render a verdict on Scholar Who Walks the Night, but it’s not too early to start fangirling over the hot guys in this drama. I may have a soft spot for acting-challenged Changmin, who could surprise me so who knows, but I definitely am excited to see Lee Jun Ki and Lee Soo Hyuk‘s vampire vs. … Continue reading →
Even exclusive K-drama fans must’ve heard by now about the recent turmoil and confusion surrounding additional member departures from popular SM Entertainment K-pop idol groups. Last year in 2014 was nearly apocalyptic with the confirmed departures of Kris (Wu Yi Fan) and Luhan from mega boy band EXO, with a side of Sulli from girl group f(x) going on hiatus. This year … Continue reading →
The nominated finalists are out for the 10th annual Seoul International Drama Awards, which doesn’t just fete K-dramas but includes popular or critically acclaimed dramas and shows from around the world. It’s less prestigious but slowly growing in international recognition and the ceremony does bring plenty of popular actors and actresses from within Korea and elsewhere to attend. This year’s … Continue reading →
This news took me completely off guard, not because it’s so improbable but because the timing feels so Johnny come lately. News broke today that famed SBSÂ veteran PD Kim Kyu Tae, whose most recently directed dramas were It’s Okay, It’s Love and That Winter, the Wind Blows, has secured the rights to and is prepping the K-adaptation of the wildly … Continue reading →
After a highly scrutinized casting and development process, the K-adaptation of In Time With You finally arrives this weekend to meet the public. Will it tank on arrival? Even with A-lister Ha Ji Won headlining, nothing is guaranteed these days and a haphazard story or directing could send audiences scurrying. On the upside view, maybe it’ll be a refreshing breath … Continue reading →
The first teaser is out for upcoming fantasy vampire sageuk Scholar Who Walks the Night, and the verdict remains unclear as it straddles the line between potential hot mess and potential awesome drama crack. Thirty seconds isn’t enough for a first impression either way, but is enough to keep me firmly in the anticipation track. The drama started filming quite … Continue reading →
It’s a testament to Park Bo Young‘s allure and visual connection with the camera that Sure magazine can get away with posing her with fronds in two nearly identical shots and still make me love it. Park Bo Young’s image has always been sweet with a soupcon of edge, she hasn’t gotten the nation’s little sister cap to wear which … Continue reading →
I may be in the minority when it comes to anticipating the hotly awaited live-action movie version of the hit manga Attack on Titan. I find everything about it awesome so far in all the previews and casting, from pretty boy Miura Haruma as lead character Eren Yaeger on down. I come from the premise that it’s nigh impossible to … Continue reading →
Casting is firming up for the next MBC weekend drama to follow the currently airing Flower of the Queen (Equator’s Flower), which has just turned the corner into the second half of its 50-episode run so it’s perfect timing to start prepping the next thing. The ratings are a tad disappointing for Flower, averaging in the mid-teens, when its predecessor … Continue reading →
The clues are starting to come together about how Scholar Who Walks the Night plans to plot out the drama narrative, in ways that are wholly going to diverge from the source manhwa. I’ve read the entire source manhwa and quite like it, but I don’t have a problem with the drama going a different direction because the story really … Continue reading →
