It was a long summer of will it-won’t it for period C-drama Jiang Shan Wei Pin and I for one am glad it’s off and running. The billing order fight took two months to resolve and ended with equal top billing but female lead Wu Jin Yan‘s name comes first before male lead Chen Zhe Yuan in listing. That’s already … Continue reading →
So this drama is already on the second title and will likely get a different English title later, but filming has indeed started for Jiang Shan Wei Pin (A Kingdom as Dowry). The leads are Wu Jin Yan and Chen Zhe Yuan in equal top billing, which honestly should be fine for both fandoms but really sucked a lot of … Continue reading →
The Jenga pieces for the upcoming period C-drama Yu Ting Yao 御廷谣 has now been reassembled after nearly collapsing when the original investor took off after billing fights between the leads. Mango TV has reportedly stepped in to produce the drama and filming will start next month in August with leads Wu Jing Yan and Chen Zhe Yuan sharing top … Continue reading →
I’m glad there are finally consequences for these so-called billing order fights between the male and female leads in C-dramas. Unless it’s clear one star is a whole level above the other, nowadays even up-and-comers at times are trying to take top billing over established stars. This situation has apparently now derailed the period C-drama Yu Ting Yao, which had … Continue reading →
So C-actress Wu Jin Yan and her unofficial but widely known maternity leave is coming to an end. She got married last year which she announced but then was visibly pregnant during promos for her drama Kill Me Love Me but never went public with it. But she did deliver her baby earlier this year and has been on hiatus … Continue reading →
So this feels like a perfect match to me, and one that feels inevitable. Director Guo Jingming is a visual above all else director and producer and it’s only a matter of time before he goes through all the visual male leads in C-drama land. This time he’s landed on Chen Zhe Yuan who casting rumors say will be the … Continue reading →
Another C-drama I’m looking forward to though only in that so-so excited way is Fated Hearts (一笑随歌 Yi Xiao Sui Ge or One Smile Follows Song. iQiyi released new posters and a full preview this week and it’s got a lot of plot and action packed in, showing how the prince played by Chen Zhe Yuan and Li Qin‘s assassin … Continue reading →
Another C-drama production has wrapped filming recently and it’s period romance Chasing Dreams (Meng Hua Ting 梦花廷 and was earlier titled Flower in Novoland). Starring Chen Zhe Yuan, Zhang Jing Yi, and Liang Yong Qi, it’s the classic love triangle set up from what I see in the preview and one ripe for the second male lead to scene-steal/screen-chew thanks … Continue reading →
So the periodic rumors about the potential release of any one of a slew of BL-novel adaptations into C-dramas shelved due to the government crackdown on the genre has so far not had any come true, other than Justice in the Dark which released 8-episodes before getting the kibosh and remains unfinished in airing. This week there is growing rumors … Continue reading →
So this is a little embarrassing event for C-actor Chen Zhe Yuan to kick off his 2025 new year. The star was performing a duet with actress-singer Cheng Xiao at the Hunan New Year’s celebration stage when he slipped up to reveal that he was lip synching. The song began to play including his sung lyric lines but his microphone … Continue reading →
Last weekend was the iQiyi Scream Night 2024 which is where the streaming platform gets all the drama C-stars together to present various awards all of which are based on popularity and buzz basically. So lots of celebs and a fun night vibe, and the cutest selfie out of the evening comes courtesy of actor Zeng Shun Xi. He managed … Continue reading →
There has been commentary in the past for both Zhang Jing Yi and Chen Zhe Yuan that both have modern faces and thus look out of place in period dramas. Of course both have done period dramas before to varying degrees of success and are now teaming up for the recently started filming drama Chasing Dreams (Meng Hua Ting 梦花廷) … Continue reading →
There is a title change but the same confirmed leads as filming kicks off for period C-drama Chasing Dreams (梦花廷 Meng Hua Ting), formerly Flower in Novoland. The leads are Chen Zhe Yuan, Zhang Jing Yi, and Liang Yong Qi, and is the story of a blind princess and her fated romance with the prince of a kingdom. So far … Continue reading →
