So Ji Sub Cameos in Upcoming Sageuk Movie Sado with Yoo Ah In and Song Kang Ho

Big star cameos in dramas and movies happen regularly, with the practice of either touting it beforehand or letting the audience be pleasantly surprised when watching the final cut. I’m fine with way, and in the case of finished filming sageuk movie Sado, the production has elected to reveal that leading man So Ji Sub will be doing a critical cameo in the movie starring Yoo Ah In, Song Kang Ho, and Moon Geun Young.

The movie is a cinematic take on the tragic real life story of maybe crazy Crown Prince Sado, the son of King Yeonjo, who was killed by suffocation after being locked in a rice chest. Yoo Ah In plays Crown Prince Sado while Song Kang Ho is his daddy King Yeonjo, and So Ji Sub comes in for a cameo during the very last scene of the movie playing King Jeongjo, the son on Crown Prince Sado. It’s totally meta that So Ji Sub plays Yoo Ah In’s son but clearly he’s showing up after a time jump to mourn his daddy’s tragic passing for the sake of the greater good of the nation.

Sado was supposed to be released in the first half of 2015 but it’s March already and still no promotional peep from the production other than the two stills above. I wouldn’t be surprised if the movie was held back for the fall or even year end holiday season seeing as it’s darker in story and execution. Not exactly summer fun fare, yes?

So Ji Sub Cameos in Upcoming Sageuk Movie Sado with Yoo Ah In and Song Kang Ho — 7 Comments

  1. Miss So JiSub in dramas, hope he return to small screen soon. It would be great if he chooses to do In Time With U korean version with Ha Jiwon.

  2. Yeah all the dark/sad sageuks don’t seem to do so well now, Royal Tailor and Empire of Lust both flopped. Let’s see if Ryu Seung Ryung can save Dorihwaga/ Han Suk Kyu and cast can make Sado a success. At least Sado chose a good cast.

  3. I do not know if the movie had its showing yet but it has nothing to do with executions or dark forces and the summer! As an amateur historian in my country, this has to do with the history of the Korean people! It’s historical and people should be interested! It is the injustice of the royal families, which the colonies suffered from Great Britian and their royal families! Kings locking their spouses, children, other members of their family in the dungeon or a tiny tower to die from dehydration or suffication! The worse part is that those soul will never be at rest! Torchure is a terrible way to die!

    • It should say; the injustices of the royal families, which was also a part of the USA colonial history from GB. Kings are the same in every country back then!
