When a story is about fantasy realms with gods and reincarnation, it doesn’t hurt to cast as close as can be to the visual description in the novel. That’s the case with the upcoming highly anticipated by fans adaptation of the period fantasy novel Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles Peach Blossoms by writer Tang Qi Gong Zi. Starring reknowned period goddess Crystal Liu with current It Actor du jour Yang Yang, the production kicked off filming this weekend with the usual prayer ceremony and the media was invited to get a sneak peak at the two telegenic leads together for the first time. I must say the casting is as perfect visually as can be, whether Crystal and Yang Yang have chemistry and act suitably in bringing their roles to life remains to be seen. The production also found a supremely adorable tyke to play their fictional son in the story, and the three posed for pictures in a tableau straight out of the novel. Cute!
Well, it’s a shame this is just a movie, not a drama. I prefer a drama version of any novel adaptation. Just wonder how could a film of 2 and 1/2 hours fully interpret a novel. Besides, movie screen time will be too limited for a rising actor to be judged fairly. It’s a shame there’s also a drama version at the same time but the cast are not my faves. Well, let’s see how Yang Yang will be doing. I hope he won’t flop to just leave him with vain fame of a flower boy.
Yang Yang is my favourite C-actor at the moment; nice to see him get some great gigs. Hope he does justice to the character and makes a bigger name for himself!
