So this the second least fan happy reunion of 2024 dramas, after Zhao Lu Si and Liu Yu Ning currently filming The Legend of Jewelry. Filming has commenced this week of period C-drama Flourished Peony starring Yang Zi and Li Xian in another formerly popular onscreen OTP reunion from Go Go Squid. One would think a successful outing a prior time would be a recipe for everyone being happy but alas in C-drama land even successful OTPs have fandoms that schism for various reasons, mainly due to one side feeling like it’s not appreciated and the other side feeling like it’s done nothing wrong. I don’t care about fandom tiffs only whether the pairing appeals and this one definitely does so let’s see what round 2 brings.
I am happy for this reunion. I am looking forward to the drama.

I have seen her on live television where the filters do exist so the face is slightly smoothed out but not the editing. She looks nothing like this in the photo. The worst thing is that she looks good live too so there is no reason for this.
She also lengthens her legs in photos so it’s a real difference. Again there is nothing at all wrong with her live. There is no need for this. She is of course not the only person who does this, both men and women do but that above is really too much.
YZ definitely don’t need filters, she’s already very pretty but the same goes for most of the Chinese celebs who use filters, I remember that live stream ZLS was on and she was looking for the filter, made me wonder, WHY? You’re already pretty enough. They even filtered LX’s face here, his face is already small but they made it smaller.
They are handsome men and women. There is no real reason for this because they look great on their own.
It also really bothers me that the expectations for beauty are totally unrealistic, to the point of their faces so smoothed out, it doesn’t look human anymore. It’s also bad for young fans who think this is the goal when that goal is not achievable. It’s just not a good thing.
Yes, she doesn’t look like in the picture, bcuz she’s waaayyy prettier in real life or tv where there’s no filter.
Really, her face is sooo small and shaped. The same goes to other actors. They all look prettier than in those pics.
@True…it is truly upsetting seeing these beautiful ppl thinking they’re not pretty enough and need the use of filters. It used to boggle my mind why these celebs need to go this route but reading this blog really put that to rest because despite Koala’s blog being a more international one, the comments here are still plagued by unrealistic beauty standards criticisms. Like every time there’s casting news of xianxia for example, would be comments saying how an actor or an actress are not beautiful enough for the role. Am always like ??? because 1) 99% of the time, the actors are quite good looking to me even before they’re in their drama’s costumes and 2) ppl not realizing that our imagination will almost always exceed real life so like however you imagine that one character look like, it’s gonna be hard for a real human to measure up 😅
I’m soooooo excited about this reunion. I can’t wait to see their chemistry again in a new drama, especially after I loved Lost You Forever so I have high expectations!

Aw I forgot Go Go Squid was one of the few C dramas I did finish although skipping many dragging scenes. Yang Zi was great for that role both visually and acting-wise IMO. I didn’t get the charm of Li Xian in GGS, however. He’s forgettable for me. But I watched some short clips of his acting in other non-idol dramas (I guess) and he’s good in those scenes. I may check out this drama. Only good script and directing can intrigue me since they are not my fave anyway. (I resist my urge to mention my fave’s name lest a certain lunatic calls me anti again in a communist way. LOL)

I did for a couple of eps but dropped the drama cos of slow pace. I’m more impressed by his acting in those short clips I watched. I just don’t remember what films or dramas those were clipped from. The roles he acted look like blue collar and his acting there was convincing.
One side feels like they aren’t appreciated? How? Why? LMAO First and foremost, Li Xian and Yang Zi are actors, they now need fan permission to ok their project and style? Don’t fans think they hold too much power to this? I don’t appreciate fans getting in the way of how anyone chooses their projects. SO annoying these C-netizens. Ugh.
I’m so excited for this😍✨. For the ppl saying that the photos are too edited, I’ll say that she looks too thin and a bit sickly. I’m not complaining cause as a fan of hers and a reader of the novel her character was very sick and actually died in the beginning but this is a transmigration novel in which another dead person from the present occupied her own dead body. I’m curious to see how the drama will be since there is china ban on this kind of things.
I noticed Scriptwriters have been clever at going round this ban, I am wondering how this story will start off..

I am glad these two are teaming up again. They are good friends who enjoy working together so I think it bound to happen sooner or later. Fans of the couple are lucky they are teaming up again. Its quite rare isn’t it? Especially with YZ, I feel she hardly teams up with former co-stars, at least not for a full length drama. If we are counting the number of times these two actually teamed up, this would be considered the fourth time? First GGS, GGS 2 cameos, Soul Snatcher YZ guest stars even though they don’t share screen time, they are still attached to the same project. Quietly, these two share a good bond, encourage each other, and greet each other every year for their b-days. It just shows they have respect for the work they do so teaming up again even though LX won’t be first billing just shows their true friendship towards each other.
Im so excited for another team up. I have watched Go.go Squid several times coz they have good chemistry, they give me butterflies even if I watched it for the nth time. Loooking forward for this movie.

Oh no! Not Yangzi again. Even though I love Li Xian very much, I’m still having a hard time finishing go go squid because of the FL. I just can’t seem to like her no matter how hard I forced myself. I guess she’s just not my go-to FL material.
