Luo Yun Xi Showcases the Most Extra of Xianxia Male Lead Period Looks as Filming Wraps for C-drama Shui Long Yin — 36 Comments

  1. “Hold My Beer” comment cracked me up. I’m still laughing. He reminds me idols worshiped in numerous local temples in Taiwan. LOL. Did the costume artist get inspiration from that? Holy crap! LOL

    • Wait. You dislike his physique yet you are here reading an article about him and watching his pictures? You like to torture yourself. He is on your unwatchable actors list, isn’t he? 🤣

I always have to bring snacks when it’s time to reads the comments here. Either they’re irrational, hypocrital, violent, slanderous… You can always laugh.

      • @Somebody I read in one of yours comments that you’re taking a break from the xianxia genre because it has nothing valuable to offer. Why don’t you keep the same energy for the actors you don’t like? Especially if their looks sucks for you. I’m not trying to create a childish discussion because in the past I even agree with your opinions. But here, I don’t understand you. Enlighten me.

  2. Omgah NO. Lol. I think he has acting talent—even though it feels slimy sometimes—but mannnnnn, the way he or they design his aesthetics to overcompensate for his tiny frame kills me!

  3. Luo Yun Xi can pull off costume dramas well especially xianxia because he’s pretty. The face shape is right and his facial features don’t look oriental.

So many actors look so bad in costume dramas because of their big and long horse face. So ugly. Why do people bother attempting things that don’t suit them? Just stay in your damn lane and not be greedy.

Wanna act in costume dramas? Don’t have a horse face. Wanna act in xianxia? Look Eurasian. Have neither? Stick to modern dramas. So simple.

Luo Yun Xi needs to gain weight for modern dramas though. All the layers in costume dramas help mask his anorexic body but it shows in modern dramas and it looks pretty bad

    • I am going to give grace and assume that you don’t know that you made racist comments. “Oriental” is offensive to Asians. Looking “Eurasian” isn’t the standard for beauty.

      • Don’t give that commenter any grace, I’m pretty sure that’s the same commenter who said in another post that actresses should be prettier than their leading men, and so Eurasian-looking actors shouldn’t be paired with “oriental-looking” actresses, heavily implying that oriental-looking actresses are less pretty. Some commenters called him/her out on his/her racism, but he/she is still commenting sh*t like this now, so I’m gonna assume he/she knows it’s a racist comment and he/she just doesn’t care.

I don’t even know what’s with his/her obsession with Eurasian this, oriental that. If that commenter wants to see European-looking actors so bad, he/she can just watch Hollywood movies or western shows, problem solved lol. Imagine watching a Chinese drama and complaining that the actors and actresses look “oriental” lmao. So yeah, that commenter is not only racist but also dumb as hell 😂

      • @Baije Thanks! I not to curse first thing in the morning but some people are hopeless. You are right about the insanity of watching Chinese dramas but bashing the Chinese characteristics of it.

    • Costume dramas always have horses. Lots of C-artists have been successful in Xianxia, Eurasian look or not, does not matter. A successful drama is mostly based on production, story and the whole cast.

    • Honestly, there are so many things wrong with this comment that I’m wondering if it’s a troll, ranging from racism to body shaming…..

    • LOL. Ppl never use “oriental” on anything other than food in proper English. Also, Eurasian visuals fit Xianxia? You must be kidding me! Xianxia is one of the unique C drama genres that have a lot of traditional Chinese elements in the context including looks, costume, and Chinese fine art. Eurasians have never been the major people dominating China in the history. To the contrary, Xianxia figures should look like classic Chinese beauties that aren’t Eurasian at all. Eurasians look really odd in Xianxia settings.

      • It’s funny when they point out that there are actors who don’t “look” East Asian, especially when it comes to China which has +56 ethnicities. They think looking East Asian is just having slanted eyes lol. They should learn about the bone structure of Mongoloid skulls.

  4. RIP to his simple white costume look from Ashes of Love, he was so pretty then. I can’t watch any of his recent costume dramas because of these excessive costumes and over the top makeup.

  5. I don’t mind the costumes because its xanxia and I think male actors should get the chance to wear pretty costumes too, but I do find the cnetz comparisons hilarious about how LYX isn’t competing with male actors anymore but female actresses to be the most prettiest.

  6. I also wonder if his costumes are inspired by southeast Asian Buddhist temples or by nats. I can’t say I like them, but if the show deliberately goes for that look (on all actors, not just Luo Yunxi), then I can respect it.

  7. Lol 😂 Okay this is like competing with Ju Jingyi and her stylist team. Both go overboard with their aesthetics in their Xian xia dramas that it’s damn overwhelming. But they both got a niche for their aesthetics.

    • I’m still waiting for them to work together. Billing issues aside, these two would probably create the most extravagant and over the top xianxia. Moreover, both are on the shorter side so no need for Luo Yunxi to put on those stuff that make you taller.

      • Great idea @dee….
Both have very nice visuals with the same type of facial bone structure…. Hopefully Luo Yunxi will end up working with Ju Jingyi

  8. LYX’s acting is decent, but he just doesn’t do it for me. I wasn’t even a fan back in AoL while my bestie was head over heels in love with him. His ornate costumes are getting more and more dramatic, which instead of hiding certain aspects of him, they serve to highlight them more. It’s the elephant in the room….

    • He doesn’t do it for me either, I find him overrated and his acting is average. Also, he looks ridiculous in that costume. Sometimes less is more, but that’s not clearly not the case for Luo Yunxi and his outfits in costume dramas.

      • His acting is above-average, he is even good with certain scenes in his projects. His appareance is not my cup of tea so I rarely watch him. You don’t need to like an actor in order to aprecciate his talents. I don’t like Tony Leung for example, but he is a great actor. I can see his value as artist. Feelings ≠ facts.

  9. I’m impressed he can even move in that thing. It’s very ornate, but not the first time I’ve seen something like this.

  10. 😅😂🤣

I am not sure what the appropriate response is for this article other than that looks heavy… if he can act in it, he is a good actor.

  11. It does look kind of over-the-top but he can definitely pull it off so who cares…Costume dramas really suit the guy. He has that elegant vibe and grace about him (probably due to his ballet background) that fit the genre perfectly. I’ve become a fan after watching him in AOL, he was the only interesting thing in an otherwise tedious and overrated show imo…just my two cents.

  12. Wow this is awful.

Sometimes less is more and in this case, it’s like 90% less is required. Who thought this disaster is a good idea?

Sorry LYX stans, nobody pulls this off, he looks terribl.

    • This is well-done compared to Zhang Binbin’s booting look for his last Xianxia reboot. The costumes looks grover-inspired garbage collection sewn together while he is looking like some abused gods.

  13. Although L.Y. might be skinny, that doesn’t affect his acting career but on the other hand it boost it😌😌😌

  14. That collar though and his back looks like a coat rack. Wouldn’t be surprised if it causes him to snag on something or bump into others. lol I can’t remember any other characters with such a costume. The most exaggeration would be those hair does that look like a tower or those medieval princes come hairstyles back in the day that I have seen in some old dramas. Not sure if I make sense but man it certainly stands out from the rest.

    • He needs all those ornate pieces otherwise he’ll drown in the midst of all the other casts that are taller or bigger than him. Even Bai Lu looks bigger than him
