Hold up and come again? This is such WOAH level casting news rumors and would be insane if it comes true. Yang Zi has all but signed on the line for the C-drama Tree of Life and this week there is a new male lead reportedly in talks to join her. It’s none other than award winning top actor Hu Ge and since this drama is female lead centric the male lead role is second billed so I don’t know if he will end up taking it. But the production team behind Tree of Life did Battle of Changsha with Yang Zi when she was a teen and also Hu Ge’s biggest drama hit Nirvana in Fire so the rumor of this casting isn’t too farfetched. Let’s wait and see what the final confirmed news says.

Like I said before, even though it pissed off her fans, she refused the male lead they had so this is not surprising but no way will Hu Ge say yes. She will have to settle for way less.

Waiting to see if it’ll turn true. However, do note that female lead centric doesn’t necessarily equate to female lead being first billed. There were many past examples where the first billed in female lead centric dramas weren’t the female lead such as Journey of Flower and My Fair Princess.
Of course not. Can you imagine Hu Ge of all people being second billed to her? It’s just something her team is spreading to try and make her seem important.

It seems YZ fans are hoping for equal billing. IMO it’ll only be possible if YZ wins a Best Actress award before the filming, Hu Ge has multiple Best Actor awards after all…But we’ll never know, there’s too many factors affecting billing order nowadays.

Hu Ge, not Yang Zi, is the clickbait for me to read this post. LOL. I used to like both. But I don’t check YZ’s drama anymore, no do I have interest in any update about her. She has become a tad boring. Nonetheless, if HG is the ML besides the reputable production team, I’ll see if plot and everything else are intriguing.
What about equal billing not second billing? That solves all problems with billing. Also what if he gets paid higher for less work?
Billing is too important because it matters for status. He can’t just accept, not should he, equal billing because that would imply she is on par with him and she is not even close. And in the future when she is equal billing with someone else, that someone could then demand equal to Hu Ge as a consequence which is a disaster waiting to happen again because she isn’t what her fans think she is and she will absolutely be equal with people below HG.
Even though I like both Yang Zi and Hu Ge, this seems unlikely.
Yang Zi stole this role from Zhao Liying, and she knows Zhao Liying wants to work with Hu Ge for a long time already, she’s trying to copy and steal everything.
